It’s a huge trend in live-action fantasy movies right now; I can think of Thor and Sonic the Hedgehog off the top of my head. My only ideas for why they do it are to 1) cut down on budget since they don’t need CGI/custom sets or 2) to help “ground” the movie for general audiences instead of being full fantasy.

@firefly Them casting a big name in the first place for the role of Skeletor confused me because the character had a CGI head and modulated voice. Anyone could’ve done it! It wasn’t even recognizable as Jared Leto in the film!
