The first trailer looks good!
I'm excited to see how they translate King and Evely's Woman of Tomorrow for the big screen... I really enjoy that book!

It looks okay. It doesn't feel like Supergirl to me and she is channeling Starlord from Guardians too much.
🇺🇸 SNOUT SPOUT FOR PRESIDENT 🇺🇸
@he-dad That tracks... especially seeing as how this is essentially Gunn's version of Supergirl (by way of Tom King.)
However, this is precisely why I like it so much. It is a far cry from the old Supergirl (and the CW Supergirl - which I really enjoy as well.)

Lobo makes his appearance:

Jason Momoa was so miscast as Aquaman. He should have always been Lobo. And Patrick Wilson should have been Aquaman, instead of Ocean Master.
@adam_prince-of-eternia Agreed. 100%

Sorry, but for me there's only one Supergirl. She's Irish, has dazzling azure eyes, cascading crimson hair and a heart that has somehow enabled her to remain married to a writer-producer-direrctor for thirty years. Her name is Kim. 🙂
I think this movie looks... pretty good on its own terms, but I just have a hang-up about Supergirl's personality. Supergirl is supposed to be this like, adorable sweetheart, looking past her harsh upbringing in Argo City to a new and exciting life on Earth, filled with joys and tears. When DC brought the character back in 2004, they started leaning far more heavily into the idea that she's distant and angry all the time, the kind of thing that I guess a modern writer finds logical for a character who's suffered so much. Fair enough I guess, but it just isn't her to me! To me, the "Angry Supergirl" worked really well basically in one context: when she was a Red Lantern for a while during the New 52. Otherwise, I can take or leave it.
I felt like in the last eleven years since the "Supergirl" TV show started coming out, DC achieved a better balance! In that show, she was more vulnerable and more gentle, and those traits flowed down into the comics as well. She wasn't totally lacking in inner anger, but I don't need her to be - that element of her inner life didn't define her anymore.
Well, at least not until now!
Like I said, I think the movie looks pretty good. I just don't know if it looks like "Supergirl" to me, a character I clearly Have Opinions about. 😅 I'll concede it's at least partially a "me problem," and I'll probably watch the film and have a good time. It's just... yeah.
I see where you're coming from (Supergirl has always been one of my favorite DC characters and my first crush! lol.)
However, Woman of Tomorrow is one of the best Supergirl books to come along in a very long time. The explanation of Supergirl's demeanor / attitude is explained really well in the story.
After Crisis, it seemed like DC didn't know what to do with the character when they decided to resurrect her. Boy, those were some tough years... I liked very little of the material being published, and the silly costume changes were complete 90s garbage.
However, I am an unabashed, diehard LoSH fan. My favorite comic / team / characters of all time. So, when Mark Waid added Supergirl to the Legion, I was in heaven! The stories were serviceable, but the fact that Supergirl was no longer wallowing in terrible mini-series and poorly written crossovers made me very happy... she finally found a home!
They got back on track with the New 52 (I actually liked some of the changes they made to her origin) and started putting out some great books... like Last Daughter of Krypton.
(Oh, and don't get me started on the roller coaster of a ride that was the CW Supergirl series! So awesome, yet so much more potential... but, I do love Melissa Benoist!)
That all ended, and now we are here. I do like how Tom King is treating Supergirl... I hope her book continues the high bar set with WoT...
As it is, I plan on seeing this movie regardless. If the movie-makers adhere to at least 75% of that story (and what made it work so well), then this movie should, by all rights, be a hit for the DCU.

@ornclown That's fair.
Whatever my other thoughts on Tom King, I thought his Supergirl character was mostly pretty okay. But I also didn't really think the trailers felt like the same type of character that she was in those comics, if that makes sense? She seemed a lot more... "goblin mode". Which isn't necessarily an un-compelling trait for a character! But it's not really what I associate with Supergirl. ^^;
