Last night I saw a movie!
.......Amazing Digital Circus, but TODAY I'm FINALLY GONNA SEE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE
THE DAY IS FINALLY HERE I've had interest in this film for years even before I joined the fandom and bought a shit ton of MOTU figures in the past year. All been leading to this. I'm even semi-cosplaying as Hordak.
Thing is, preview box office numbers from last night aren't good. Just saying, we need this movie to succed have good word of mouth spread like wildfire if we want this to become a film franchise and for He-Man to finally have mainstream staying power.
We can't let this be another Transformers One
God bless it's soul and f*ck Hasbro for it's new AI focus, Target exclusives and complete lack of consumer demands
Hopefully I'll have a chance to see it in a day or two. I've been busy adjusting to my new temp job, and I haven't felt like going out much these past couple of weeks.

Camila and Nick have so much charisma, charm, and character. Every interview I see with those two is great! They play off each other so well, and the way they joke with eachother and tease the interviewers is hilarious! I love their chemistry!
@costume-n00b I am seeing it on most likely Friday, on my last day of the school year, and I'm seeing it at my local theater with my friends of different ages (13, 15, 18). The theater is great! It's got an arcade and a subway, and it also rents rooms, and has a lobster bake. Me and one of my friends are hanging out afterwards with some other friends, so it'll be a day to remember! It's a very quaint little theater, and I cannot wait to watch the movie of my life there!
My wife and I have seen it 4 times...we're gonna let it settle a little now and maybe go again in a week or so. We went with a group of friends on opening night, some of whom were not MOTU fans and they absolutely loved it.
We gotta keep the pressure up for ticket sales. That said, it looks like not all hope is lost because Amazon is in it for bigger picture.
This came from an article in Variety:
“[Director] Travis Knight and the entire cast and filmmaking team have delivered something truly special, and this opening is exactly the kind of critical first moment that validates our holistic distribution strategy—building awareness and engagement that will carry well beyond the theatrical window.”
Could Amazon and Mattel cracked a different model for success? Figures are selling, and the merchandise is selling out (at least, the swords are. )
@ehenyo In my eyes, all of this big push since 2020 has been investment into the brand, to reawaken it. It takes a lot to do that. Even this movie, I think Mattel was not necessarily banking on a big box office success (even though they did everything to make it happen and were hoping for it).
But so many more people will have heard of He-Man through all the marketing for the film, merch, and hopefully seeing it. That is a big value, if they are playing the long game. Increasing the value of MOTU.
On the other hand, they have a partner that does not need to make big money on the box office. Amazon have released prestige movies that made very little money, because they want them for their library. The cinema release was just extra PR for those films, and a bit of extra cash.
Amazon produces plenty of big projects only for streaming.
It sounds like Amazon sees the value in pushing this brand and hopes to reap some of the benefits. (Spin offs; merch? Etc etc)
And if nothing else, they have a fun, good looking movie in their library, on par with many MCU films of Disney+, with a lot of rewatch value.
And hopefully Mattel sells a ton of merch.
@cosmic I think we'll at least get a sequel. Even the people who weren't fond of the movie said it was fun, and they want more, even if they didn't think it was particularly good.
Saw it a second time just now. Enjoyed it even more this time around. There were people laughing and cheering in the theater. Just a blast of a movie experience!
I've now seen this with my wife, my Mom, and my 17-year old son. All with varying degrees of MOTU knowledge and fandom, but nothing compared to us die-hards. They all genuinely loved it. All said they'd watch it again. So for casual fans it's still a great time. There were kids in the theater, so here's to a new generation becoming He-Man fans.
I'm just thankful we live in a world where a MOTU movie exists that was made by people who are fans of the franchise. While not perfect (not all jokes landed, it could have been trimmed down a bit), it is a film with heart, fun, and action. I felt like an 8 year old again both times. Looking forward to owning a physical copy and rewatching it again and again.
Not to mention Amazon seemingly being very confident in it despite box office worries. They may heavily promote it once it starts streaming. I mean they are one of the richest companies (f*ck Bezos tho)@cosmic I think we'll at least get a sequel. Even the people who weren't fond of the movie said it was fun, and they want more, even if they didn't think it was particularly good.
To be fair, since their merger with MGM in 2022, this is their biggest scale movie yet. Same with Mattel films as this is only their 2nd movie in their new film division and between the two companies, it's their only blockbuster movie as of now that could feasibly become a film franchise of at least five installments plus a She-Ra solo film hell yeah wanna live in that reality.
I always knew this franchise had so much potential as a film series, which is one reason why I joined the fandom more than a year ago and I'm glad I did because right now, it REALLY paid off.
@kinggrayskull09 As much people as possible should still go see the movie in theaters even if it doesn't break even. Recommend it to literally everyone you know.
The Amazon streaming strategy is likely Mattel's plan B, but plan Bs are sometimes for last resorts
Okay, I loved the movie. It was nothing like the 1987 one, but they should have gotten someone else to play Evil-Lyn. Her acting was terrible. Also, it made me feel like Adam caused his father's death when his sword made the stones come falling down on King Randor at Snake Mountain. Plus, who found Adam when he landed on earth? Who was taking care of him as a child on Earth? Who raised him? He just grows up to work in HR? And why couldn't the music be completely original instead of copying ABBA?
So Adora is not going to know her father in the next movie?
They all left King Randor behind at Snake Mountain. He could still be alive for the She-Ra movie, if Evil-Lyn and Beast Man put King Randor back in their prison before magically bringing Skeletor back to life.
