the MV is still available and a great figure

agreed...perfect Clawful

If the long-overdue King Hsss becomes the next MOTU Chronicles exclusive figure through Mattel Creations, I might finally take my first step into that line. Otherwise, my wallet stays sealed.

@yen1893 Not yet. I think Mattel's strategy has exhausted me and left me with no appetite for more, since 'more' means exclusively variants or, at best, repaints. They could make it so much more fun for their customers — really! For example, Chronicles Scareglow was a good start, since I maintain my theory that the design was intended for a possible New Eternia SG, but was reused at the last minute for the Chronicles line launch. The same goes for King Grayskull, since he's now more in line with the 200x character. However, that's not what I'm focusing on right now. I just can't forget the latest characters seen on the Masterverse box art, and it's driving me nuts (lol).

@ornclown Can he speak any faster lol.

Something I’ve noticed in commercials, they even speed up sound & picture to save money.

That said, love any and all toy commercials, but especially MOTU of course!

One of the winners of this movie toy season craziness is the Core line. It has charm of its own, and that price, man!

@cosmic Mattel was thinking smart with that price. Unlike with origins.

@kinggrayskull09 I know the movie Origins are even more pricey in Europe, add to that the oversized deluxe prices…

But I think outside of the price, the Origins movie figures are another good strategy. I see oldschool fans preferring them to Chronicles as well. Compared to those, the Origins are cheap. 😏

Got my first two Chronicles figures a few days ago. Man-at-Arms and Trap Jaw. Love the latter more than the former. Duncan is a good figure, amazing likeness to Idris Elba, but problem with him is that is blaster is hard to fit in his hand. You really gotta squeeze the open hand out to fit it, but not too much pressure or else the hand piece will break.

Anyone else having this issue?

They really should’ve come with an extra pair of more open hands specifically for blaster holding.

I had the same when I got a Masterverse 2021 Netflix He-Man a while back. His sword is so hard to get in his hand.

Also amongst the other Chronicles figures currently out besides them, which ones do you really recommend? He-Man and Skeletor are eventuals for me, but what about Tri-klops? Is he good?

Another big compliment I have to give is the packaging. It's great. Not too simply, yet not too flashy. Love how the box shape is flipped depending on if it's a heroic or evil warrior and the side art you can put them next to each other and it looks cool. And character descriptions on the back.

@slycooperastroboy51 So far, I only have He-Man, Trap Jaw and Scare Glow from Chronicles, and have preordered Teela– she looks great in the promos and has a nice amount of accessories (especially the second head with her hair up).

I agree Trap Jaw is great, just the skirt is hindering some of this much advertised great new articulation. That’s a beginner mistake.

I like He-Man, he’s just too small for my taste. But probably looks fine with other Chronicles, I just compare these still to MV.
But he moves perfectly, nothing obstructing all these new joints, I was impressed. I am thinking of getting Battle Cat once he gets a bit cheaper… 😅

I’m not planning to get the full roster, really just the figures I mentioned. I’m already getting too many movie figs from the other two lines.

@cosmic Yeah I'm betting BC will eventually go on sale/clearance. Where did you get Scareglow?

I get the impression that he would be an exclusive somewhere since as far as I know he isn't in the movie. Then again I intentionally haven't looked at really any pre-release material/screencaps/TV Spots/Promos aside from the two trailers.

I thought Chronicles was just movie characters but you think they're expanding it to characters in the movie-design style who aren't in the film or were likely cut from it, but they still wanna make figures of those designs?

Also I have no idea why Walmart isn't selling MOTU stuff right now when the movie is less than a week away. Or is that probably just my local Walmarts?

@slycooperastroboy51 I have to admit I got Scare Glow from Mercari or Ebay… it was not too painful but still too much. But I was sick of waiting and stressing.

This Scare Glow has nothing to do with the movie, this is like with Masterverse, a different subline apparently. The design is very Mondo inspired and also like New Eternia, just a cool newish take on the character, a pure toy design.

So it’s obvious that at some point, Chronicles will expand with other sublines, like MV has New Eternia. Just cool non-movie takes on the characters. But for now, the movie is the focus obvy, and they just did a one-off with SG, as a Walmart Exclusive. People have found him in store but most have not, I think. He is only listed on the WM website from resellers. Nobody knows if he’ll be more widely avail in the future… .

At least with the Core Golden Skeletor, I know he was very briefly avail on Walmart Collector Con online. Scare Glow was speculated to be as well, but never happened.

$40 wasn't good enough, now they're pushing Scare Glow up to $50 & $60. Their greed will never be satisfied.  And the dumbass collectors keep paying it. 🙄

Battle Cat is one awesome figure!

While I don't think he is going to sell out and never be found again, you wouldn't feel cheated if you paid full price right now... he is badass.

It’s been a rough start with Mattel. First, they made it seem like this new line could threaten Masterverse, which, to be fair, has really slowed down since its last wave last year that featured Despara, Dragstor, and Keldor. Second, while this Scareglow is nicely designed, it doesn’t seem to be easily available for the few fans who want him. Overall, I’m just not feeling the excitement, too many negatives to deal with right from the start.

I think Mattel has to deal with many compromises due to the nature of today’s retail market. This is very different than how Mondo sells their stuff, or Mattel Creations exclusives…

Unfortunately Walmart is probably really necessary for them, to make these figures possible. Also unfortunately, WM has become just terrible for dedicated collectors.
So yeah, both the Gold Skeletor and Scare Glow were these fun releases, something tor the fans… but scalpers fully deplete the online offerings, and in stores it’s also a crapshoot. It’s really too bad.

But how I see it, those were just a fun bonus. Mattel’s focus for Chronicles is clearly the movie, and those figures are widely available.

For those who don’t quite warm up to that whole thing, have to wait till the storm calms down a bit, and Chronicles will show other designs more regularly.
I’m kinda looking forward to that, but there’s the size problem…

Sadly, I don’t expect a continuation of Masterverse, even when the movie craze wears off. I would love an updated MV going forward, releasing the full line in toy design, but I fear that it’ll be the well engineered, but diminutive Chronicles buck going forward instead.

What good is making a figure that only the eBay scalpers can get? That's just a tease. How many of us were actually able to get TOG Mer-Man? Mattel or Walmart might as well just list them ALL directly on eBay.

Walmart only sends Scare Glow to certain stores/areas. You have to be extremely lucky to just happen to live in the right area. And Walmart never has him for sale on their website. How is this acceptable to Mattel?  I know store distribution has been horrible for decades & will NEVER be fixed. But what I don't understand is why Walmart refuses to sell it on their website. They have a listing for it but they only allow 3rd party scalpers to actually sell it.

I don't understand this situation at all. And I can't believe it.

@Cosmic @sci-fitsunami I honestly hate online exclusive stuff, and store exclusive stuff, you can only get it on eBay. It's annoying when brands pull this stuff.

I have the solution, but Walmart will NEVER do it. Since a lot of Walmarts have completely stopped carrying MOTU it shows that it doesn't actually need to be in stores. They can get by just fine without carrying MOTU. And they never put any on their website for sale. The solution is to immediately put all they get from Mattel up on eBay for Buy It Now $26.97. That way we can all easily get them & it totally cuts out the scalpers/resellers. TFSource & HasbroToyShop/Pulse have eBay stores, Walmart should too. Since Walmart can't be bothered to run their stores or website properly, just dump it all on eBay & let it ride. Problem solved! But they would NEVER do that. 😭

@sci-fitsunami I personally think that it might be that any official listings of Scare Glow might get immediately depleted by scalper bots. Golden Skeletor was avail at WM-Con, only for half an hour or so, since then he’s only been avail from scalpers.
With SG, it’s worse though, he never even made it it Walmart-Con online… though it seems he was planned for it, timing wise.

Maybe they got not enough quantities, and just used it for the stores… those who do still carry stuff.
(Did they all got stolen on the docks? Sank in the Pacific??)
There is also a major disconnect between stores and WM online. It’s like a different company.

As to which stores carry it, it’s probably up to the store’s managers and whoever is responsible for toys. I bet a lot of time it’s random and they mostly stock Disney and Marvel, whatever they know from osmosis. I don’t think there are necessarily toy experts working there, or running the toy section. Much is probably automated.

Not making excuses, just trying to find explanations.

Mattel still needs them, because sales are sales, money is money, and to the suits at Mattel, that is more important than making the fans happy. The fans are only a smaller part of the sales.
It does create cases of cool toys that are totally only sold by scalpers, which is ABSURD!

That is not to say they would make all their toys WM exclusive. I do think they know it’s not good. So it’s just certain stuff. The MOTU things you don’t want is widely available. It is important that all movie stuff is everywhere.

Ergo, WM sucks, but Mattel Creative Dpt probably hopes you can get it in stores, or in other cases, at MW Collector Con. They think at least this cool thing exists. They can’t change the situation.

P.S. I hate late stage capitalism, too.

I managed to snag a loose one off eBay for $25.99 and free shipping. That's a good price considering shipping was free & it's missing the box. It should be here tomorrow. I really want the box because of the awesome artwork. I originally wanted to get about 4-6 for customs. To me Scare Glows are army builders like the Classics bio says. He's not a single character IMO. I'm gonna keep searching for good deals. I hope when all the hype dies down the prices will drop & not keep going up like they did with TOG Mer-Man. Maybe Walmart has more stock to ship out? Since it's the first Chronicles figure & the box even says "Inaugural Edition", you'd think they would flood the market like they did with Masterverse Skelegod & Battle Cat.

It should be less than retail because it's loose. Years ago, loose = used which automatically lowered the value. But these days it doesn't matter, they are charging $40+ regardless of it being loose or MISB.

And I'm having a real hard time wrapping my head around it. The box used to matter.

@sci-fitsunami I have been trying to get the rest of MotU origins wave one, but it's so expensive, and even loose figures of Teela and man-at-arms are so expensive, like $50 expensive! I hate it so much. And that wave is out of print and hard to find at this point.

One thing you could do is get the Eternian Royal Guard that's still $19.99. It basically covers the original non-mustache Man-At-Arms. But if you really NEED the wave-1 version with the mustache then yeah, probably expensive.

Wave-1 Teela is a problem because, IMO, you absolutely NEED the one with the corrected knees. I Originally wouldn't touch Origins because I saw Teela's knees. I started collecting Origins later, wave-5 IIRC when they fixed the knees on Evil-Lyn. Then I was able to go back & get Teela & Evil-Lyn with the corrected knees from Techinn. And I got lucky, my Castle Grayskull came with the Sorceress with the correct knees.
