It's because muscled men with swords is very 1980s @sketchyskeletor
Nah, they resurrect Conan every so often or try to, Red Sonja, Game of Thrones, Vikings... they're just creating a frame for what they were told.
The countdown has begun...
I saw MOTU movie posters at the theater this afternoon. 😎

So beyond excited for this movie!

I'm curious at what Allison Brie brings to the table as Lyn, though I've only seen her in two movies and they are the ones involving Lego (It's Lego both singular and plural, not "Legos")
I know this is weird to say but Zootopia and Zootopia 2 are my favorite modern Disney movies and I'm starting to watch through Once Upon A Time (great show. Mr. Gold/Rumplestilkin is my fav charatcer) I'd like to think at one point in this movie's development hell, they wanted Ginnifer Goodwin to play Evil-Lyn and go against her typecast of wholesome, sweet, girl-next-door type characters. I mean I'd say she looks the part.
Maybe they did approach her and she backed out upon hearing Jared Leto would be her co-star. wouldn't blame her.
No wait, on the topic of that show, if any of y'all have watched it, Lana Perilla would've been PERFECT.
Taking a closer look at the design and coloring of ZOAR, the alternate form of the Sorceress (played by actress Morena Baccarin) in the upcoming "Masters of the Universe" Movie.
We have the Power!
@durendal okay no I haven’t seen it. I just quickly googled it and yeah all I can tell is Brie plays the protag and it’s set in the 80s.
WHO IS THAT UNMASKED GUARD?
In the "Masters of the Universe" Trailer, there is seemingly one person among Skeletor's "Skel-Knight" guards without a face covering. Is this someone of significance? An old zombified friend of Adam's? We don't know, but lore has also previously told of young recruits who joined Skeletor (only to regret it later.)
We have the Power!
This movie has the worst casting I've seen in a very long time. Kristen Wiig is Roboto? I was actually going to give this movie a chance until I saw that.
How is anybody taking this movie seriously? I'm seeing so many comments from people saying they are so excited for this movie & I'm wondering if all those comments are AI bots? You just can't be serious!

What. 😆 You were never giving the film a chance.
All you've done is railed against the film with the skin color and ethnicity of some the actors being a major point of contention for yourself. Or maybe everyone else seems like a AI bot when they're not racist dipshits.

Hey, banging on about how true to the original something is and then race swapping characters is racist, not the fans complaining about the implied promise and subsequent disappointment. Nor should tourists, Youtubers or anybody else be conflated with actual fans. It's a much more layered issue than just shouting 'racism' and it was an issue long before this movie went into production.
Umm, this isn’t the 1950’s. People that are complaining about race swapping being racist are in fact racist themselves. I mean Idris Elba is a black man playing man at arms but who cares? He’s an amazing actor.
I always thought Viggo Mortensen, Tom Hardy, or Josh Brolin would play a great Man-At-Arms / Duncan.... however, Idris Elba is awesome. I am looking forward to how he manifests the character in this movie.

The timeframe has nothing to do with it, and why race swap anybody? We are long past any 'good' that might have done. Just look at the backlash with any project that does this. Pretending that's not a thing is why they fail. If your movie is toxic before it even arrives and doesn't get a large enough audience, what use is representation for the sake of it?
Skin colour, race, whatever isn't the issue. Hollywood making it the issue is. It started a culture war just to try and be relevant again. Or did I just imagine Wesley Snipes kicking ass for decades? That Falcon was a fucking great superhero until he got drowned in faux sociopolitical agenda along with his teammates? That we already had female action stars who didn't need to be endlessly explained?
People are so determined to be 'right' they don't realise they're just pawns for corporations who would say or do anything for a buck. Like think about it for a second, all us kids of the 80s who grew up watching Ghostbusters, Bravestarr, Ninja Turtles etc and then went on to watch Star Trek, Blade, Black Panther and whatever you wanna name, loads of us suddenly became racist? I mean come on.
We should just be excited that we're finally getting a true HE-MAN movie, and Mattel is going all out with the merchandise and marketing. Not so much the marketing yet though.
I wonder how Mattel's SDCC '26 plans depend on the MOTU movie reaction..?
The Masters of the Universe movie will have been in theaters for almost two months before SDCC takes place... it could be another huge boon for Mattel... making it the focus of the show.

I can't shake the feeling the merch is the marketing for what this movie cost.
@Ornclown The movie needs to make a clean fortune in it's opening weekend and then have a months-long slow drop-off just to make it's money back, they spent too much on it. Amazon are also known for dumping their cinema releases on Prime almost immediately to recoup costs or at least fluff their subscription numbers. Chris Pratt's Mercy was on there in under a month. Bomb or not that's a massive indicator of how they think about their balance sheet.
The odds are completely stacked against this movie (they can't even promote Leto as Skeletor for obvious reasons) but especially for Mattel's exposure to it. Whatever we think of the figures and merch the movie needs to be an undeniable hit to shift it all. I'd actually be quite surprised if they're still thinking about the merch by SDCC with so much of it already available right now or about to be two months ahead of release.
I agree that it's unlikely for Mattel to really be pushing the MOTU movie merch at SDCC... even if the movie is a hit, the only thing they would be able to do is scramble to announce new items "coming soon."
It's hard for me to gauge how this movie is being received... it had positive test screenings and early reviews, but a lot of criticisms after the cast and full teaser were revealed.
I do know one thing, the upcoming movie feels like it's bringing He-Man back into the general pop-culture consciousness... after the gym this afternoon, I stopped by my local coffee house and the barista was wearing a badass MOTU t-shirt with all the evil warriors on it!

It's almost impossible to know how a project is actually received now, I think. People are often so fake online. You have folks at test screenings so happy to be there they can't be objective. Or they're afraid to say what they actually think in case it doesn't gel with the social media zeitgeist that week. It could be anything. And they're not even the fake-ass 'influencers'. Then you've got the recent trend of blatantly gamed trailer viewcounts that weren't achieved when franchises were at their peak!
The general consensus can turn on a dime too. The damage the pronouns gag and the toxic masculinity quote did went viral across social media. Whatever your take there, so many people are afraid to hold opinions they didn't essentially get from someone else! It's so frustrating. I miss when people were straightforward and it was all purely about entertainment and nothing else.

Yeah expect this to become a film franchise. Even before I got into the fandom, I knew enough about this franchise to know it has a ton of great material for one. I could imagine at least five movies, maybe a She-Ra spin-off trilogy if that Amazon tv series has been cancelled.
I'm gonna bet they won't adapt anything regarding Despara and just have Adora simply start as a normal Horde soldier or she was raised a different way because audiences would probably rather just get to see She-Ra as soon as possible than a bunch of screentime dedicated to her starting as a full on Hordak loyalist villain.
Also I've said this before but......
Ben Mendelsohn as Hordak and also Lana Parrilla (Regina on Once Upon A Time) as Hordak and Shadow Weaver. My fancasts.
They honestly should've been casted as Skel and Lyn. Though I'm sure Brie will be great.

I hope that you're right.
However, having a ton of great material and knowing how to use it are two different things.
On the surface, what's not to like about barbarians riding on giant cats shooting lazers and swinging swords at a stable of wickedly cool bad guys while preventing an evil overlord with a skull for a face from taking control of a giant castle made to look like a huge skull?
An absolute sword & sorcery meets sci-fi fantasy dream-come-true!
Additionally, MOTU has decades of incredible resources in the form of comics, books, games, toys, audio cassettes, essays, interviews, and several cartoon series... but, Hollywood has a knack for taking things that work and "fixing" them until they're broken.
With that said, Amazon has some very deep pockets. If they and Mattel want this to become a franchise, it will happen. I just really want the first movie in forty years to be good, if not great.

Dude! Just STOP with the "Racist" crap ok? I'm white & I'm OBSESSED with Asian girls. I don't have a goddam racist bone in my body. I simply want the white characters to stay white, the black characters to stay black, the Asian characters to stay Asian, the Hispanic characters to stay Hispanic, the male characters to stay male & the female characters to stay female. Take your "racism" and shove it straight up your ass! K???
Now, with that being said. I dare you to try to explain how race & gender swapping benefits any of us. What the hell do you get out of it? What is the point? You can't explain it because there is no logical explanation. It's stupid! It's pointless! And nobody benefits from it. There is a black character named CLAMP CHAMP. Did you forget about him? Now, explain to everybody why they would cast Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms & not Clamp Champ. Go ahead! We're waiting. Let's see what kind of half-assed, whacko, bullshit explanation you can come up with. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever! You know it! I know it! Everybody knows it. And you want to accuse me of being a racist? Go fuck yourself! How the fuck is that even "RACISM"? I don't hate black people, I just don't want the white character to be black. Why & how is that so bad? I have even mentioned that Idris Elba is one of my favorite actors. I fuckin loved him in Pacific Rim & Hobbs & Shaw. Idris Elba is awesome! But he is not Man-At-Arms.
Yes! I have been railing against this movie because they screwed up half the characters for no reason. If they can make Beast-Man, Skeletor, Trap-Jaw, He-Man & Fisto look right, what the hell happened to Teela, Roboto & Spikor??? They don't even resemble the characters.
Here is your Roboto. Try to explain this one. This is the worst offender. So, I guess that makes me a misogynist as well as a racist in your twisted logic. I am neither. I'm simply calling out bad casting for what it is, BAD CASTING! I didn't wait 40 years just for them to fuck up half the characters. Stupid-ass Hollywood! They've been messing up every franchise for the past 2 decades. But I'm the asshole? Whatever!
