We have the Power!
I’ve always enjoyed this episode- it’s where MOTU can really shine, having fun leaning into goofiness.
I really wish we had a few more episodes like this one that really leaned into S2 and S3 characters. A little more focus on the S2 with Mekaneck, Whiplash, and Roton, but then we also get Moss-Man, Sy-Clone, Two-Bad and Modulok. I wonder if the 85 characters came in late in the production of this one -none of them do much, especially the non-speaking cameo of Two-Bad and Modulok (funny that his next and last appearance in He-Man will be his first chronologically).
I also like episodes like this one where He-Man and Battlecat are jumping around their adventure, with different supporting characters come and go.
This probably could've been a typical cartoon clone episode plotline, but what makes it stand out is that for no reason the clones are small but otherwise look no different. This wacky episode plot could only happen in Filmation and I say that as a compliment. The story could've been the same if they were normal sized but nah Skel wanted a bunch of Mini-Mes.
Also Mekanek, Moss Man and Sy-Klone in the same episode. Neat. It seems only near the end of the show run Filmation remembered "Oh yeah! We're a toy commercial show, we need to hastily show off all these toys!"
Weird bear people? ooookay? Find it a bit funny when characters that look like they're from a completely different cartoon show up. Knowing Filmation was cheap, did they really just take any character animation model from any show they had, alter it to look at least a bit or passably alien and call it a day? Those bears have to be reuses from another show I'm betting.
Anyone ever play the Nintendo game Pikmin? Or at least know of it or Captain Olimar from Smash Bros.? This episode reminded me of it and suddenly I want a Skeletoid version of it.
I love this episode. I love seeing all the new characters. I love seeing Mekaneck again after disappearing for a while. He helps a lot. The only thing I would change is the ending. I wanted to see a million little He-Mans fighting a million little Skeletors. That would have been epic!
3 stars. This episode is kind of a mess but it's so entertaining. Is Mossman the most pointless cameo of all time? At least sy-clone got to hit a few skelecons.
