After my “Electric Blue” JLA Superman, my very first McFarlane Multiverse Fig, I decided to complete the Build-A-Figure Plastic Man, and to get the whole wave.

Today I got the Batman from that wave, (a little cheaper from Amazon,) there’s really something cool about a traditional Batman, colored all in black like a classic Keaton suit. I’m impressed with McFarlane and really love that JLA Grant Morrison run from the 90s, though I don’t want to make this a habit 😅 

With all my MOTU and the odd Marvel Legends on and off, I have already too much going on…

But yeah, excited about this Batman, and to get more parts for Plastic Man!

After being on the fence for a while I finally broke down and got a Back to the Future 2 Ultimate Griff figure. I wish it looked like Thomas Wilson more but it's still a very good figure.

@mighty-thanos I'll be watching July 21st. Then I go under the knife for three hernia repairs July 24th, at least I hope to get my Warbird before the operation. 😛 😵

Right on, lol.  Now I'm also eyeing the Two Bad that is coming out the 25th, the day after. Why do they do this to me? I just want to rest and recuperate without any FOMO, this hobby is not being good to me. 🙁

I have no interest or knowledge of computer games, but I really liked this figure. This Chun-Li from Jada Toys shows how a female fighter can be a bit more chunky and powerful, while still super feminine. And it’s affordable 😁 

Not saying motu ladies need to be more buff. Just sort of a fun “What If” the female characters in Origins would try to be a liiiiittle closer to the males… of course they still look like a different species, which I’m fine with. But the Origins ladies are sooo tiny… (I have not opened my CC Teela yet).

The last score is a VHS copy of The Smurfs and the Magic Flute. Also nabbed some comics including  the 90’s Flash TV adaptation. This I now feel I must get signed by John Wesley Shipp.

I picked up retro TMNT Casey Jones and 3 of the 4 sewer sports all stars. Just missing Mikey

I like this thread and would love to see it more action again 😃 

My latest non-MOTU toys are Sonic & The Flash 2-Pack from Jakks (I already got Wonder Woman and I just find the small scale really fun, lots of details too).….and Stellara from the current Sectaurs relaunch. Also had never heard of Sectaurs until a couple years ago, I’m intrigued and watching the animated mini-series on YouTube (Peter Cullen unmistakably in a supporting role).

My latest was, I *think*, the “Deluxe” version of Super 7 Thundercats Tygra.

Got it on sale, finally a price I didn’t have to think about too much.

Love the color contrasts of cold and warm, the Classics buck gives me happy flashbacks, and I don’t mind just having one whip as accessory.

Speaking of, there are no threads to discuss the Ultimate Silverhawks & Thundercats, no?

Maybe a joint Rankin / Bass thread that would include the Tigersharks?

I’m not a devoted collector, but I love the cartoons and pick up a figure here and there… (Looking at Flashback right now– but what if there’s a toy version with vac…)

As for my latest acquisition, I got the Double Dragon figures from Syndicate Collectibles. I'm an old-school arcade rat who cut his teeth on the original Double Dragon games, and these figures are very well-made! Pictures do not do them justice.

@cosmic Yes, I could do a deep dive into the history of the Double Dragon franchise, but I'll spare you the details.

Essentially, the original arcade game came out in 1987 and immediately became a smash hit. (I must have dumped hundreds of quarters into that cabinet back in the day...) It was the first of its kind and paved the way for all modern beat-em-ups (side-scrolling games where characters move through a stage beating up bad guys and fighting a 'boss' character at the end of said stage.) The games' protagonists are Billy and Jimmy Lee, two brothers who practice martial-arts in a post-apocalyptic version of New York City.

Konami's TMNT and Simpsons games, as well as Capcom's Final Fight, and Sega's Streets of Rage are all good examples of the genre... even the new He-Man video game coming in September is a beat-em-up!

However, Double Dragon really hit pay-dirt when it released for the NES in 1988. It was the top-selling non-Nintendo game selling 100,000 copies in just a month and one of the best-selling games of 1988 (it sold over 1million copies just under Dragon Quest and Super Mario Bros. 2 that year.)

Long story short, Double Dragon has gone on to spawn several remakes, sequels (including one just released this year), and fan games. It had a cartoon adaptation in 1993 (VERY 90's style) and a sub-par movie in 1994 starring Alyssa Milano (lol.)

All of this time and there were never any action figures made for the property (not counting the figures based on the cartoon). Syndicate Collectibles rectified this in 2025! 😎

@ornclown Thanks so much for this great summary! Yeah I had stumbled over the cartoon and movie, but there were other things I confused them with. (I do know “Enter the Dragon” is something else.

I did play a tiny bit of side scrolling games at friends’ places back then, so I’m a tiny little bit familiar. I would usually enjoy it but it did feel kind of addictive to me. Never had the urge to do this on my own. 🙃

But again, the figures look nice! And now I may have to check the cartoon again on Tubi lol.

So this is out of the ordinary for the many types of toys discussed on this site.

There's a sizable online Thomas the Tank Engine fandom that I'm semi-active in. A good percentage of it collects the many toy trains made throughout the past thirty plus years. Be it the different toylines: Tomy motorized, Wooden Railway, die-cast and expensive $100+ electric model trains by Bachmann. The same way there are collectors for Hot Wheels or die-cast Pixar Cars.

Collecting because these were fun toy trains to play with as a kid, but when Mattel bought the franchise in 2012, the merchandise dipped in quality.

YES they are for young kids but older toys from when before Mattel bought the IP were more well made, simple yet detailed and accurate to the characters. Once Mattel stepped in, fattened up train proportions, less detail, less variety of characters, more sets designed involving stunts and flashy gimmicks like Hot wheels as if they wanted these character to be anything but trains. The Wooden line of engines had it the worst.

This year has a relaunch of the brand and while the accompanying show meant for young kids fans will mostly ignore (Seasons 1-7 narrated by George Carlin and Alec Baldwin is where it's at. Our G1. Our Filmation), the best part of it is a new metal die-cast range with a lot of classic designs with better proportions, not only that but also a wide variety of characters right out of the gate.

Best of all they're cheap to collect. Each $5-9. Got Thomas & Annie. James, Henry and Gordon. Been waiting for them to show up at a local Walmart.

For those of y'all curious as to why Thomas of all franchises has an adult fanbase, I recommend checking out the fan documentary An Unlikely Fandom as well as some videos by The Unlucky Tug.

Continuing my foray into nostalgic video game figures, I just picked up the Contra set from Premium DNA toys:

These are some pretty amazing figures. They have an insane number of accessories (seriously, they each come with 12 different hands and 4 different heads!!) and really good articulation. The paint apps are nice too... with an airbrushed shading on the bare muscles and nice camouflage designs on the pants. 

And, because I loved this set so much, I decided to get the Contra set based on their newest video game: Operation Galuga. These ones are from Hiya Toys Exquisite series:

Again, a ridiculous amount of accessories (you could supply your entire toybox with this stuff!) and great articulation. I like these updated designs too... they have a more animated-like appearance, yet you still know that they are Bill and Lance, the dynamic guerilla soldiers.
