The trilogy of Rankin Bass Animal-Themed Superheros:

The first needs no introduction, but who here remembers the other two? Too bad none of the shows ever crossed over. Although, the 2011 reboot of Thundercats hinted that all three existed in that universe:

Too bad it got cancelled (and replaced by that crap Thundercats Roar) before they could get more into it. Supposedly, Silverhawks was getting a reboot, but I haven't heard much for a few years. With all the drama at WB, seems like they're more interested in sitting on stuff than doing anything with it.

So, which ones do you remember and what did you think of them?

Edit: now that I think about it, all of these shows are probably the reason I have a thing for catgirls and other monster girls in anime and video games.

The first two shows were really good but I never heard of that Tigersharks show before. After watching the opening I don't think I would have liked it.

@kraken it was basically "Thundercats Underwater" the same way Silverhawks was "Thundercats in Space".

@zarius I'm getting it tomorrow. I'm a big fan of Declan Shalvey. I don't know how I feel about some of the character designs though, especially Tigra's beard and Wilykit. I'm a big Thundercats fan so I'll give it a shot but who knows how long I'll stick around.

I am picking it up with my other comics tomorrow. I am not thrilled with the character designs, but I like them better than the 2011 animated series. The changes seem really arbitrary though, and not different enough to justify them being different in the first place. The costumes seem more modest, like they are trying to cover them up, and they are more like super heroes than fantasy characters. ThunderCats has not had a good track record in the modern era, so hopefully this will be good.

I am so happy I have found this thread! Thundercats is my favorite thing ever! I am obsessed! So obsessed that I wrote down every reference to the original series in Thundercats 2011, lines, costumes, characters, locations, and memorized how many times characters are in episodes. I know it all at this point. I

adore the original series more than anything, it inspired me to become a writer, because I've been working on a large fanfiction since 2021, and I'm constantly changing it. I have a specific vision of what Thundercats is. I read all the comic books to get all the lore, and rewatched the show so much that I know all these small deepcut referenced one time characters like Snarf's aunt Esmeralda, who is mentioned once and never appears, and made her a character. It gives me so much imagination.

I am working on a history of Thundera fanfiction of what happened before the original series. I'm not the only person who does this is what's great. In 2021 they announced a Thundercats movie was being made by Adam Wingard, and he is a megafan like me! He wrote a script in the '90s, then in 2013 started building upon it, and started working I think Simon Barrett on the script, and then it was announced in 2021. There was no update until 2024, where they said they are still making it. And now, in 2026 they have announced that it is still in active development, and the scale of the film is massive. He has been working on the movie for around thirty years! Three decades! I cannot wait for this to eventually come out. I have so much confidence because it's taking so long because he wants it to be perfect.

I love different people's vision of Thundercats. Whether it is in comics, fanart, cartoons, or movies. This is why I hope that the new MotU movie will make WB want to speed the production on Thundercats, without rushing it. After Adam Wingard's next movie is finished, (which is in the final days of post-production) hopefully he will focus on this. Unlike MotU, a gritty sci-fi reboot is perfect for Thundercats, as long as it has the family friendly Lord of the Rings look and feel to it. I see his vision, and I trust in it. Us fans are eating good!

I love the new Dynamite comics, they are what I think the movie should lean into. It's darker, very cinematic, has the best version of Mumm-Ra, and heads into the lore and history of the Thundercats. I just hope they make Snarf talk this time. I love the new designs in the Dynamite comics, and the story is great as well. My favorite thing in the world to do is think about all these different Thundercats visions people have, and my ultimate dream is to one day make my dream. The ultimate Thundercats show. Or name it into a book. I don't care, I just love Thundercats!

I'm still not done talking, I love the 2011 series, though it isn't the greatest reboot of all time. It has alot of flaws. But it is so epic! The show got gradually more like the original series over time. Especially in the cancelled season 2. If cartoon network didn't suck and they kept the show on one air time and advertised it better, we could've gotten season 2, but thus tried to make it so nobody would watch it. Then they could make a cheaper show with lego chima. They did this with the original teen titans show as well, and the emmy award-winning HE-MAN 200x show. Instead we got Thundercats roar, which does have it's funny moments. I don't mind the show, I just don't like how the creators made it to parody the original series, (which is an amazing piece of art) because they didn't like it at all. It was meant to hate on the original series. But again, I don't mind roar too much. I love the care that went into the original series, it even had alot of famous Anime creators before they were famous. People from Studio Ghibli worked on this. This show wasn't made to sell toys, or push an agenda, it was made out of heart, because a man thought it was a cool idea, and wanted to make a clean show for kids, that also had good action and animation. Unlike some kids shows now.

Overall, I just love Thundercats. I hope one day soon it will get the cinematic praise it deserves, and we will see it on the silver screen. I just love how the show still inspires people to this day to use their imagination to be themselves and be unique. This show is generational. I'm going to start working alot more on my fanfiction over the summer. My point is, I will never stop loving this show, ever! I hope you all agree, Thundercats Ho!

I'm not sure if any of you have seen this, but the Hall of Omens: Thunderverse book is a fantastic resource for just about anything that has ever carried the TC, SH, or TS branding... seriously, from comics, to costumes, to toys, games, puzzles, VHS, ...even Beta-Max!

And, it's a BIG book!

I got mine a couple of months ago, and I feel that it's worth every cent. The interviews with people involved in the toy and cartoon industry are really cool too!

Oh, and the cover is Glow-In-The-Dark! 😎

@kinggrayskull09 Yup, I picked up a physical copy of Hear the Roar! back in 2016 (or 2017...)

It's also another THICK book!

Read it cover to cover and really learned A LOT about the ThunderCats... from pre-production to post, and everything in between. It's a fun read, with some redundant material, but quite informative.

(At one point, it goes in to how "cat like characters" can have "hair" on their heads, and why they were all going to be 'naked' for the entire series...)

Sadly, there are almost no images throughout the book. Not that I needed it to be a graphical manual, but some images of the toys, animation cels, and people at work would have been nice in their respective chapters...

@ornclown which is more in depth to the show itself

Hear the Roar! is without a doubt more in-depth with the show.

It talks all about how the show was envisioned, financed, and produced. (Using fax machines to correspond between the U.S. and Japan!) As well as scripts, writers, character designs, series bibles / plots. It also explains how the 5-part mini-movies became standard practice for every season beginning with season two.

It covers the voice cast and music too.

And it even talks about the partnership with LJN for the toys.

Definitely a great resource for any ThunderCats fan. I recommend!

Throwback to when I got a signed picture of Lion-O from the original voice actor himself, Larry Kenney!

@kinggrayskull09 Nice!

Larry is such a cool dude... I've met him three times before, and each time he was graceful, courteous, and friendly. (Something that gets harder to be after a long day at a convention!)

When most others were after his "Lion-O" autograph, I went looking for his "Bluegrass" one!

I have his autograph on an original Kenner Bluegrass figure - in package. 😎
