@chrisa At the very least I'm hoping for the filmmakers to sneak in a line like "I wonder what's for dinner?".

Look Nintendo may want to pretend those games never existed, but there is no way the higher ups overseeing the movie know the dialogue if they never wanna touch it no matter how much of a meme they became.

On the subject of Mario Galaxy Movie and things Nintendo doesn’t want to remember, does anyone feel that whole pointless scene that added nothing to the plot of the Bros. and Toad being babies had the slightest bit of reference to the 1993 film with how the SNES Super Scope is utilized?

In that movie, actual painted Super Scopes were used as props as de-evolution guns that de-evolved a person's species into their more primitive form, like a human into a primate or lizard person into a dinosaur.

In this movie, it's used to de-age a person into their younger self, not de-evolve their species, but I feel the similarity is there enough.

I actually watched the '93 movie for the first time all the way through a bit after the first Illumination movie came out after years and years of me just seeing clips and reviews and I would've hated it as a kid, but as an adult it's a guilty pleasure of mine. It's one of the worst film adaptations of anything ever, but I can still admire all the artistry of the sets and actor performances ever if they were drunk off their asses. Dennis Hopper like everyone despised it, but I feel like he somehow had a ball simply saying the word "Goomba". 🤣

Met Frank Welker last year at a con and asked if he remembered doing the voices for Yoshi and the Goombas in the movie and was surprised that he actually did.

I am also surprised they went with live action for Zelda, though I'm not sure Illumination would be the best animated studio to make it. Mario can be frantic, but Zelda demands to be slower.

(Also, not only did they reference the classic "Do a barrel roll", the ship actually did a PROPER barrel roll. Somewhere, MatPat is smiling!)

Yeah, I can see that.

In that case, I think it would have been worth Nintendo's time (and money) to acquire the talents of Studio Ghibli. As I previously mentioned, Miyazaki and the Legend of Zelda were almost born for each other. The pairing would simply be a work of animated bliss.

And, the idea isn't really that far fetched. Studio Ghibli has done licensed work before (The Borrowers, Tales of Earthsea, Ni no Kuni, On Your Mark, etc.), so something like this would only benefit both companies, IMO.

Ghibli's style matches the pace, settings, character designs, and emotional stories of Zelda so well. If that happened, I would cry tears of joy.

I really think one of the biggest mistakes was for Illumination/Nintendo to title this the Galaxy Movie because that kinda set people's expectations maybe a little too high.

This wasn't a mistake at all. The only expectations that would be assumed would come from the fans who actually know what Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 are, and those are the same fans who are, almost unanimously, going to like this movie no matter what.

The families taking their kids to the theater don't care what it's subtitled. It could be called SMB meets a dinosaur named Yoshi, and it wouldn't change their thoughts on the movie.

As an unabashed Nintendork®my three favorite mainline Mario games are (in this order):

1. Super Mario Bros. 2 (or SMB USA)

2. Super Mario Galaxy 2

3. Super Mario Galaxy

...and I was perfectly satisfied with the way Nintendo / Illumination handled the overall theme. As a matter of fact, I feel that they went above my expectations and included the cast of SMB2 in a major part of the movie! But... the fact remains, the main pieces of Galaxy are all here... the Comet Observatory, the Lumas, Launch Stars, the taking of Castle Peach, Star Bits, mini planets, and  (most importantly) Rosalina.

**I will admit, however, I wasn't keen on how they changed Rosalina's story...**

As for a Nintendo cinematic universe.......no......please no.

Youtuber Schafrillas made an excellent video on why a Smash Bros. movie could never work. I feel like the filmmakers had this awareness because Fox clarifies in the movie that he's from another universe and not the main Mario one. Nintendo isn't Marvel or DC. Fun cameos are fun cameos like in Disney or Pixar movies of the last 25 years.

See... this is the problem. Anytime someone mentions a Nintendo shared universe, everyone immediately thinks Super Smash Bros.

I would be lying if I said I wouldn't want a SSB movie, but having the cast of every major Nintendo franchise beat on one another isn't the only way to get them together. Case in point, Fox McCloud sharing a spaceport with the S.S. Dolphin. Whether from another reality, dimension, universe, or whatever... it's fun to see things like this happen. (I'll stop here before I get on my Captain N the Game Master soapbox, lol.)

How I would execute the next movie if Nintendo/Illumination came to my front door and randomly gave me the keys (yeah I know this is long):

-Have the simply title of "Super Mario Bros. 3". yeah it's weird to have the third one and not second one in a trilogy numbered but Mario 3 isn't too specific like Galaxy and Mario 3 in general is one of the most iconic games in the franchise. The simple box art alone.

- Has the Kooplings (maybe Jr. was with them at boring school) joining the Bowsers after the two of them are abducted by Tatanga from Super Mario Land. Tatanga proposes and alliance with Bowser he.....immediately shuts it down even after Tatanga restores his body and escapes.

- For once, Bowser has a big bad villain equal rival in Tatanga (I honestly wish they would do this in the games, make Tatanga a recurring character who tries to outdo Bowser in villainy. Hell, i'd compare it to Skeletor and Hordak)

- Would personally cast Brian Tyree Henry as Tatanga, making him a more competent villain than Bowser. Look if we ain't getting a TF One sequel, the least I want is Henry voicing the main antagonist in any animated movie, giving a performance that is full Megatron of what should've been.

- The two of them are gonna attempt with their separate armies to collect 6-7 macguffins throughout the Kingdoms. Also like Mario 3, the rulers of said kingdoms are shown. There's already Peach, Cranky, Penguin and maybe Daisy?

- Unlike Galaxy the movie takes place on one planet, terrestrial, fleshing out the locations the first film only showed in a travel montage, really giving it a classic Mario "one world at a time" feel.

- Tatanga brings in Wario and Waluigi to assist him, promising thing beyond their wildest dreams.....including riches. They accept, but the two can see through that he'll double cross them at some point so they in return plan to double cross HIM? Who does it first? idk

- Wario and Waluigi are like in some media, established as childhood bullies to the bros. It would be hilarious if they had a flashback to the four of them as kids. Mario and Luigi have normal kid voices, while the Warios have their adult voices of Devito and Buscemi.

- Daisy is just pretty casually introduced early on as a new friend of Peach who comes to a gala she's holding or something. It would be funny if they depicted her as tomboyish as usual, but also a bit lazy in being an actual ruling princess, in reference to the fact that her literal kingdom has never been shown in a game since her literal debut. Zootopia 2 is my favorite Disney film as of recent and because of it I've been watching Once Upon a Time with a badass Snow White. Yeah, Ginnifer Goodwin as Daisy. If Princess Anna can be Amy Rose, then Judy Hopps can be Daisy. Ironic because in Galaxy movie they just made Rosalina Space Elsa.

- Lots of characters, but I think a perfect way to balance some of them is having them as a funny ensemble, seeing each others interactions. Great examples of this are Toy Story 2 & 3. A main hero group consisting of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Toad, Daisy, DK and Diddy stay together a good chunk of their adventure.

- What about Rosalina?

She goes out into space looking for a lot of help. At the climax, a huge threat (maybe a godzilla sized Bowser) is looming. Certain friends and foes form alliances, all get battle ready, then she flies in with said help and who she brings?

characters that would make this 1/7 runtime of a hypothetical Smash Bros. movie........played off completely as a joke climax not taken that seriously, which would be on point for the tone. A complete parody of Endgame, except upon Rosalina bringing the Nintendo calvary, Mario just simply asks all of them

"Okay, who are you people?"

Just saw this a little while ago. We liked it, though not as good as the first, was still a good watch. Calling it now, with the success of this franchise we will see them do Zelda next

Yeah... I have no idea how this Zelda project is going to turn out - it could be incredibly wonderful. I just wish that they went the animated route this particular franchise.

However, @brasco is not wrong... I believe Nintendo will not be content with just these two franchises getting the Hollywood treatment. Look for Metroid, Donkey Kong, Star Fox, and possibly Pikmin and Kirby to show up in some way in the coming years.

K, never mind literally yesterday I found out Goodwin has.......certain controversial views that I will not specify. She has Tim Allen/even Chris Pratt-syndrome. Again, won't get into it.

But for a while I knew what would be the next best choice for Daisy and how unlike Peach and Rosalina, they could make her funny as hell and if they give the people what they want with Wario, it would be a 3/5 Always Sunny reunion.

She has voice acting experience (Finding Dory) and tons of chemistry with Charlie Day (I'm betting even if they don't share a recording booth), so I would imagine that even if it really has to be heavily PG-ed and toned down, Kaitlin Olson would still be hilarious as Daisy:

@ornclown I wonder if Brie Larson is secretly extremely disapointed that they did Rosalina so dirty, but is still really hoping to play Samus. She has expressed that before and Metroid is literally the only other Nintendo franchise besides Zelda that would work in Live-action

@slycooperastroboy51

I wouldn't mind Brie Larson playing Samus Aran... Captain Marvel is one of my favorite MCU movies and she kicks butt in that. Moreover, she would be suited up almost the entire time regardless, I would hope / assume. (Hopefully they won't need to do the magical "disappearing - reappearing helmet" trick seen in EVERY. SINGLE. POST PHASE 1. MARVEL MOVIE.)

Besides altering her origin story, why do you think they did Rosalina dirty?

@ornclown giving her so little screentime in a MARIO GALAXY movie. I liked Fox in the movie, but some have taken issue with the fact that a non-Mario character has more screentime than her. She also never directly interacts with Mario. Weird. Not saying I didn't like her in the movie, just really underutilized.

Fun Fact: According to GameXPlain, Rosalina actually IS on screen more. Fox has 6 minutes of screen time.

@durendal I didn't know that before. I was halfway through Season 2 of Once Upon A Time then I found out and my mood to keep binging soured. Was really getting into it. Mr. Gold was my fav.

It's easier to somewhat separate character voice art from the voice artist. Not so much when you can see the actor on-screen.

unless that VA is Tara Strong and you realize that she's just uses only one out of five of the same voices rinse and repeat a hundred times for years.

I've said this before I think, but I'm glad as hell Leto's Skeletor face is covered with CG and he's giving a voice that doesn't sound like him.

I'm hoping and betting that many, many casual moviegoing people will go into the new movie not even knowing Leto is Skeletor unless they show some Keldor flashback.
