>>>The Power of the Good and the Way of the Magic!<<<
This and the Legend of Zelda movie are two of my most anticipated movies coming soon! I love The Galaxy games! I saw the first movie in the theater, I had waited my whole life for that. Same with MotU

The Super Mario Galaxy games are my favorite mainline SMB games right after SMB2. I have to admit, I am beyond stoked for the Switch collection...
However, the $70 price tag is about $30 too much. (These games came out in 2007 & 2010, respectively!!)
Also, I am looking forward to the Mario Galaxy Amiibo! These are like Amiibo XL... much bigger than the standard versions. The scenes that Nintendo chose are just perfect too!

@ornclown I hate the price of those game packs. They were so much cheaper on the first switch
New trailer!
I'm not gonna lie... I'm psyched for this one!

Agreed.
I'm especially impressed with the way Rosalina turned out!

Really looking forward to this one.

New trailer!!!
Man, this looks goooooood!
MOTU and Mario movies in the same year? Wa-Hoo!
>>>The Power of the Good and the Way of the Magic!<<<
The Superbowl TV spot:
Yoshi's Safari, Super Mario Odyssey, and Yoshi's Island all referenced in a 16 sec. clip! This movie is gonna rock.

Final Trailer:
This looks so. damn. good.
The castle abduction scene is straight from the video games!
Plus, it confirms that Peach's line from the first movie was definitively referring to Super Mario Galaxy.
Also, WART!!!!! Yes!! 😀
>>>The Power of the Good and the Way of the Magic!<<<
@ornclown Foreman Spike in the first movie, Wart here. They're really going for the deep cuts. And I'm all for it.
Me too!
SMB2 (or Super Mario USA) is my favorite mainline Mario Bros. game... to see Birdo, the Ninjis, Wart, and blue Toad really makes me happy!
I hope that this movie is just as loaded with easter eggs / references as the first - if not more so!
>>>The Power of the Good and the Way of the Magic!<<<
There are several movies this year I'm excited to see, but this is at the top of my list! I hope they make several more of these.
Me too!!
I saw Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 the Secret of the Ooze in the theater last Friday... now I get to see Super Mario Galaxy, Supergirl, and Master of the Universe all in the same year?!?
It's like my childhood stopped by for a long visit this summer!!

Early reviews for the Super Mario Galaxy Movie are mixed....
However (and pardon my inner-Nintendo nerd for coming out here), the so-called-critic reviews are asinine.
It's almost as if they refuse to allow a followup movie to be as good as the first. One reviewer went so far as to say he had to poke himself with a pen to distract from the discomfort of the movie. Really? This is the trash that people weigh their decisions with??
The movie is getting criticized for doing exactly what it promised: to make a Mario movie for Mario fans. Don't get butthurt if you didn't get a reference or two, just enjoy what's there.
Another reviewer gave it a bad score because she said it was "distanced from reality." Hmmm, ya'think? It's a movie based on a video game featuring plumbers who adventure through a magical world fighting anthropomorphic turtles and mushrooms IN OUTER SPACE! Give me a break.
If newspapers, VHS, landlines, and audio cassettes are now obsolete, then surely 'Film Critics' are obsolete as well... they serve no purpose whatsoever. (Even when I agree with their thoughts, it is still just THEIR THOUGHTS. As humans, we all have our own... I hope.)
Anyway, got my IMAX tickets for tomorrow. Can't wait!!:)

I saw it and I absolutely loved it.
So much so, that I'm going to see it again in the theater this weekend. (There is so much to see / digest in this movie!)
It is certainly a huge treat for long-time Mario fans, however, the casual viewer will be quite entertained the entire time as well.
As suspected, the aggregate "audience scores" for the movie are in the 90% range... I just don't understand those ridiculous critic scores. They are laughable.
I definitely recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys beautiful settings, strong family values, a romping adventure, a dash of comedy, and super cool set-pieces.

I saw it tonight with the family and some friends. Really enjoyed it (though I personally think the first one was better.) Will definitely get it on video when it comes out.
Like most video game movies, it is essentially a love letter to the games and was made with fans in mind. If you are looking for something deep and introspective, you'll be disappointed. This movie won't change your life, but it's a blast from start to finish.
...........
And MAN do I want a Starfox movie now!
I love both the Sonic and Mario Bros. movies for different reasons... the Sonic movies do an outstanding job of incorporating live action actors with CGI ones, so well in fact, that it is perfectly seamless. They also have a much darker tone than the SMB movies.
However, the Mario team knows exactly what Nintendo nuts (like me) want in a Mario movie: lots of fan service and deep cut references! And, at the same time, they make a great movie for the uninitiated as well. These reviews stating that Mario Galaxy has no plot are so off-base it's not even funny. There may be a lot going on in the Galaxy movie, but there is a strong moral tale weaved throughout the film.
Fox McCloud is certainly an awesome addition to the Mario universe... and, by all accounts, he should be featured in his own movie. I think Nintendo was very wise to introduce him here and gauge audience reaction before going forward with a StarFox movie. Personally, based on fan reviews, I think it's inevitable at this point.
Which makes me wonder why Nintendo decided to go the live actor route with the Legend of Zelda. If a shared universe is in the works, I'd have preferred if everything was animated. I mean, it can definitely still work, but Zelda especially should have been in the same Illumination / SMB style, IMO.
Oh, and on the subject:
"Do a barrel roll!!" 😎
>>>The Power of the Good and the Way of the Magic!<<<
I am also surprised they went with live action for Zelda, though I'm not sure Illumination would be the best animated studio to make it. Mario can be frantic, but Zelda demands to be slower.
(Also, not only did they reference the classic "Do a barrel roll", the ship actually did a PROPER barrel roll. Somewhere, MatPat is smiling!)
k, so first time me posting in this forum topic. As someone who has played Mario games since I was 5 with Mario Kart DS, the Mario Galaxy Movie is a complete mess......that I liked.
Bad Mario Galaxy adaptation? Yeah totally
Bad movie in general? yeah kinda
Good Mario movie?....yeah I think so.
7/10
I really think one of the biggest mistakes was for Illumination/Nintendo to title this the Galaxy Movie because that kinda set people's expectations maybe a little too high.
Calling it "Super Mario Bros. 2" is less specific to a certain game, especially one that's considered the best, would've been more fitting, even if Wart's role basically stayed the same because the movie's tone overall is mostly the same as the first
I know it would be weird, but they should call the third one simply "Super Mario Bros. 3" to not repeat the mistake. Not "Mario Sunshine Movie" or "Mario Odyssey Movie". I mean Mario 3 is already probably within the top 10 most iconic games in the franchise, the simple cover alone is iconic.
As for a Nintendo cinematic universe.......no......please no.
Youtuber Schafrillas made an excellent video on why a Smash Bros. movie could never work. I feel like the filmmakers had this awareness because Fox clarifies in the movie that he's from another universe and not the main Mario one. Nintendo isn't Marvel or DC. Fun cameos are fun cameos like in Disney or Pixar movies of the last 25 years.
Or at the very least if an Illumination Star Fox or Pikmin movie references this one, they should not make it a big deal like they're setting up something
I am also surprised they went with live action for Zelda, though I'm not sure Illumination would be the best animated studio to make it. Mario can be frantic, but Zelda demands to be slower.
The director of the movie, Wes Ball has been wanting to make a Zelda movie since around 2009-2010 ever since he made Avatar and reports have just come out saying that it's filming at some of the same locations as the Lord of the Rings.
As someone who's not a fan but has played just enough Zelda (I always got stuck somewhere, the only one I've ever completed was BOTW with the help of a guidebook) I think from what we've seen, it's it good hands.
Zelda and Metroid are really the only Nintendo franchises that could work in live-action. Brie Larson really wants to be Samus.
Also again as someone who's played Zelda seldomly Hot take: I actually really wouldn't mind if Link actually talked as long as it's in a normal toned voice and maybe sparingly.
But I know my dumbass in that theater is gonna cheer if the movie makes even the slightest reference to the CD-I games 🤣

I think Link should talk a much as a normal person. The Zelda games are defined by exploration, puzzle solving, and item use. Not Link being silent. People asking for Link to be silent is a case of "Fans Don't Know WhatThey Want".
I'll be shocked if there's a CDi reference, Nintendo has effectively memory-holed those games, but I'd happily take one "Excuuuse me, princess!"
