one of my absolute faves, unfortunately they got worse as they went on. To the point that the studio took scripts that got turned down and adapted them into hellraiser movies. I advise to stop after number 4
Oh and the last movie I watched is the one Iβm watching currently. As tradition dictates, as itβs December 1st I start my Christmas horror-a-day movie marathon. And tonight itβs the original 70s Black Christmas.
Five nights at Freddyβs, we watched it on Halloween nightΒ

Was the new one any good with the female pinhead?

"i didn't even know it was your diary, i thought it was just a very sad, handwritten book."Β
@he-dad same, that's why i only have netflix and disney + everything else, i watch either on dvd or cable tv
@he-dad yeah it was surprisingly good. Didnβt break any new ground but was an interesting take on the story and was very atmospheric. Iβve just ordered on Blu-ray
Winne the Pooh:Β Blood & Honey.Β It wasn't very good, but I was in the mood for a horror film and it was on Peacock.Β Β I think they could have spent a bit more on the costumes.
@he-dad yes peacock. Stinks we canβt share Netflix anymore. My wife and her friend would share that, Hulu and paramount. In my house it doesnβt matter bc when my kids are home all thatβs on is YouTube
oh and surprisingly it was pretty good

this was a fun movie, itβs budget was tiny hence the disappointing make-up. It was made in secret so it was ready to release as soon as the copyright on Winnie the Pooh came into the public domain. There is a sequel in the works that will feature tigger I believe.

I am a big fan of the first Hellraiser film as well. The content is certainly not for everybody, and it took repeat viewings for me to truly appreciate, but if one can look past the surface, it has some real interesting ideas and subtext.
The sequels didn't measure up for me though, but I reasonably enjoyed 2 & 3 (but never finished the fourth.) π
We have the Power!
@admin I love Hellraiser. The first movie adapts the original novella brilliantly and the practical effects are amazing.Β
Barker released a book a few years back called The Scarlet Gospels which concluded Pinheads story. Worth a read.Β
"If you feel safe in the area youβre working in, youβre not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel youβre capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you donβt feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, youβre just about in the right place to do something exciting."

Last movie I watched was Santa Claus the movie 1985 with the kids last night.Β

Kids had movie night at their school last night. Blankets and pjs in the gym and they provided snacks. Wife and I watched the grinch but kids ran in circles with their friends whole timeΒ

My favorite part is when Annie attacks that giant cookie! πΉ

I think it would have worked better if they were more stuffies come to life rather than looking like dudes in Halloween masks.Β I don't thinks costs would have been too insane to do it in more a Puppet Master type way.Β Hopefully, with the sequel having a much higher budget, they can at least improve on things.Winne the Pooh:Β Blood & Honey.Β It wasn't very good, but I was in the mood for a horror film and it was on Peacock.Β Β I think they could have spent a bit more on the costumes.

Does it play up the demon aspect?
Why I asked (and why I became so fascinated by the first and only the first movie) is Pinhead described the cenobites as explorers, demons to some, angels to others. And that ambiguity of being neither good nor evil, and strange unexplained explorers that we just can't comprehend, really interested me. Later in sequels it felt like they were portrayed more as plain demons from hell and suddenly they became a lot less interesting to me. π
* If anyone is curious and has not watched Hellraiser, here is that scene:

BeetlejuiceΒ

The story follows Pinhead, or as he called in it, the Priest, as he plans to take all power in the world.Β
I wouldn't like to say too much as it's a great read. Clive Barker is an incredible story teller. He only wrote and directed the first movie and had nothing to do with the others which is why you can see the declining quality.Β

@he-dad not sure how I feel about beetle juice 2. I hate when thereβs that large of a gap between sequels
