Wednesday is a Jelly Gem Taste Test. Usually Taste Tests are two round challenges where contestants are sometimes blindfolded, sometimes not, but those who guess incorrectly go into the second round to see who will face Elimination, or Immunity as the case may be for correct guessers.​

As for tonight's contest, chef and guest judge Junda Khoo is in the MasterChef kitchen tonight serving up a soup-er dish!

Here's the 40 ingredient laksa that Alana, Andre, Audra, Beau, Ben, Jamie, Samira, Snezana & Theo have to taste test tonight to guess what the ingredients are.

 

Those who guess incorrectly will go into Round 2, the dreaded Elimination Round.

Thankfully my fair Depinder & the lovebirds Sarah & Declan as well as Callum & Laura are all safe, having won Immunity from tonight.

Tonight on MasterChef was the 40 Ingredient Laksa & Dumplings created by guest Junda Khoo. The contestants who were playing tonight, minus the contestants who won Immunity last week of course, had to take turns tasting the dish and identify the ingredients. The first 4 contestants to guess incorrectly would be sent to Round 2 (ELIMINATION) where they would have to make any dish using the ingredients that were in the laksa. Those contestants were Beau, Jamie, Samira & Theo.

The Top 2 were Beau & Theo.

The Bottom 2 were Jamie & Samira.

Jamie made Khao Soi (Chicken, Northern Thai Coconut Curry, Burnt Chilli Powder, Crispy Noodles, Pickled Shallot & Soured Gai Lan Tops). However, his flavours were unbalanced and the dish was too bitter in flavour because of the burnt chilli powder which was not prepared properly or fried off to remove the bitterness.

Samira made Chicken Kofta, Charred Eggplant & Eggplant Baba Ganoush. However, her chicken was overcooked, having been blitzed, fried and then barbecued. Way too far on the overkill. It was a case of some delicious flavours (the eggplant elements), but the chicken was tough and pasty at the same time.

Therefore, it was Samira who ended up being eliminated. Bye Samira!

Tomorrow night starts Dessert Week Monday - Wednesday, (not the full season of Dessert Masters, that comes later in the year). Inside the Mystery Box is a delightful puddle of delicious - but messy - gooey caramel! It appears Declan will be making croquembouche tomorrow according to the preview.

Tonight was the beginning of Sweet Week and tonight's theme was gooey desserts!
 
The contestants were given a Mystery Box filled with oozy, gooey, delightful caramel which was meant to inspire delicious sticky treats. Sarah's reaction here was shared by everyone!

The desserts were delectable, and the Top 4 dishes will be sent into tomorrow night's Pressure Test, which unlike usual Pressure Tests will be an Immunity Challenge instead of the usual Elimination Challenge.
 
Sadly, there were some dishes that didn't make the grade - these were made by Audra, Snezana and in a heart-shocking moment, Sarah.
 
Audra's choc-lolly cake was considered a bit too weird and childish for a MasterChef worthy dish. I think the main problem was that she simply over-decorated it.
 
Snezana was trying to make a dish that incorporated marshmallow meringue & caramel, but - and you're not going to believe this - she forgot to turn the oven on and adjust the temperature accordingly. She tried to pivot and make fried caramel filled doughnuts instead, but by that time her cooking time was almost used up and the caramel and gooeyness just weren't there. Had tomorrow been a Pressure Test for Elimination, Snez would have been in it most likely. If it had been the actual send-off, she would have gone home for sure.
 
Sarah, in a rare shock move since she usually NEVER makes mistakes and is ALMOST NEVER IN THE BOTTOM, she is usually so incredibly competent. She tried to make a choc-caramel fondant, but she was off her game tonight, and her caramel was too skimpy and not gooey enough. The judges told her they know she can usually do so much better. Sadly, she might have even been in the Bottom 2 although Snez would have been the one to leave.
 
The judges warned Snez that she has been in the bottom more than anyone else, even Ben, they are usually in the same position as Rue was before she was sent home. Ben no longer has his Immunity Pin as well.
 
Along with Ben, Alana, Jamie & Theo seemed to be lost in the middle somewhere tonight. I don't even remember what they made to be honest.
 
Now for the honourable mentions (sorry about not having photos for these) Declan's croquembouche & Depinder's spicy choc-caramel eclairs. They were very well-received but they just missed making the Top 4 by a hair.

Beau made a Tiramisu inspired dish he called Tiramigoo - with  Home-Made Finger Biscuits, Mascarpone Cream, Salted Caramel, Dark Chocolate & Hazelnuts. I only have a photo of the outside sadly.

So, Andre, Beau, Callum & Laura will appear in the Pressure Test tomorrow. Whoever makes the best dish tomorrow night (which is all about baking) will win the coveted Immunity from Sunday's Elimination.
 
Also, Wednesday night is another Immunity Challenge with the Jelly Gem Taste Test. Usually in a Taste Test, the incorrect guessers have to play Round 2 where someone is Eliminated, but I'm guessing with this shake-up of a challenge, the incorrect guessers will be taken aside and the correct guessers will play for Immunity.
 
In other MasterChef news. Congratulations to the series for winning a Gold Logie Award this year, and Best Wishes to the esteemed judges - Poh Ling Yeow, Jean-Christophe Novelli, Andy Allen & Sofia Levin.

Last night on MasterChef, the four contestants who won the Top 4 spots on Monday (Andre, Beau, Callum & Laura) had their Pressure Test for Immunity. They each had to recreate not one, but 3 desserts, created by judge Poh Ling Yeow. The best version of all three dishes saw its maker win Immunity from Sunday's Elimination.
 
The four had to recreate Poh's (left to right): Milly-Filly (a cute take on the classic Mille Feuille), Strawberry & Lychee Chiffon Cake and Rhubarb Lily Tart.
 
Bottom 2:
 
Andre made the mistake of buttering and flouring the cake tin (had he read the recipe properly, he would have known not to do this) which affected the rising of the cake and it wasn't as light and airy as it should have been and it lacked the lovely crust it needed. 
 
Callum's cake layers were uneven and his overcooked rhubarb was too smooshy and had no structure. Also his tart shell was way too thick.
 
 
This left the Top 2:
 
Beau did extremely well in regard to the actual cooking, but he left his cake decoration to nearly the last minute and he didn't get ALL the strawberries placed where they should have been. He was one row short.
 
Laura recreated three perfect desserts and thus she won Immunity. She is also not playing tonight.
 
Tonight is the Jelly Gem Taste Test where the contestants take turns tasting cubes of jelly. Normally in a challenge like this, the incorrect guessers are made to do a Round 2 to see who gets Eliminated. However, it is the five contestants left without an incorrect guess who go into the second round to win Immunity.
 
I am hoping Depinder or Sarah wins the night.
 
Sunday of course is the next Elimination.

Last night on MasterChef, the contestants had to do a Taste Test with Jelly Gems. Usually in such a challenge the incorrect guessers have to do a second round for possible Elimination, but as you know, this year they are mixing things up a bit. Everyone who guessed incorrectly were taken out of the game and the last 5 contestants were sent into the second round for Immunity.
 
Those five were Audra, Callum, Declan, Sarah & Theo.
 
Sadly Depinder was one of the contestants who guessed incorrectly and she didn't get a chance to win another Immunity.
 
I wish I had done the write-up last night while things were still fresh in my mind (and I promise to be more informative and concise in future). I just wasn't feeling well yesterday.
 
I don't quite recall what Audra & Theo made.
 
Declan made an Almond & Frangipane Tart but he did not have a good night as his tart shell split and the filling spilled out all over the place and it was just not cooked long enough. As a result, the tart was still raw and doughy. I am glad it wasn't an Elimination, otherwise he would have gone home.

In the end it was Callum who won the Immunity so he will be safe from Sunday's Elimination along with Laura.
 
I am sad and worried that this means Depinder & Sarah will be vulnerable, along with Alana, Andre, Audra, Beau, Ben, Declan, Jamie, Snezana & Theo.

Sunday is an Elimination (except for Laura & Callum who are safe as you know), but it is hosted by some very unusual but oddly familiar guests.

Somehow, they found younger doppelgangers of our esteemed regular hosts Andy Allen, Poh Ling Yeow, Sofia Levin & Jean-Christophe Novelli.

Sweet Childhood Nostalgia is the theme and it includes using cereal in desserts.
