This San Diego Comic-Con, many Masters of the Universe action figure collectors felt a glaring hole in Mattel's booth (and in their hearts) when new Masterverse figures and Origins: Cartoon Collection figures were notably absent. While we know that a Masterverse Vintage Collection Wundar and Evil-Lyn is on the way... (and what we also heard, a Cartoon Collection Filmmation Sorceress figure as well)... we wondered what did the future hold for both fan cherished action figure lines. Well now we know that neither line is dead, per Mattel’s Damon Nee, Senior Director of Action Figure Design at Mattel (via an interview…
We have the Power!
Well my mind can be put to rest on Masterverse for now, and I don't like cartoon collection. Origins should not emd anytime soon though that's for sure. It's probably the best He-Man toyline since the original. Classics was okay, too expensive for me, and I didn't like the style of the first few batches of figures.
Looking forward to Wundar and hoping he will look good amongst my NE collection. Have not collected CC, but would really love a decent Sorceress. Will Cartoon Collection go with NE?
Ever since Motuc went dormant, I have aspired to continue collecting in the same way, as long as the figures were intended for adult collectors (Masterverse was a perfect fit!). So, Mattel, please revise your 'merry-go-round' strategy so I can go home and complete my SOH, POG, NA and POP collections!
Cartoon Collection is quite a bit shorter than Masterverse. NE is ~ 7in.
Filmation CC Cartoon Collection is just a liiiittle bit taller than regular Origins… below 6in?
Also a different design aesthetic).
But hey, you do you, everyone remixes their own (New) Eternia! 😊
@cosmic It's difficult with Mattel's ongoing aversion to just delivering a great product (for me that means NE). I recently saw a picture of the new Chronicles Sorceress. A hard "no" from me. When I first heard of the upcoming release, I was so excited and eager for a gorgeous figure. I am not sure what mattel was thinking 🤔. So looks like MV Revelation will need to be sourced at an exaggerated price. Same with Clamp Champ. Who ever would have guessed collecting action figures could be so traumatic and emotionally taxing.
@djfor I actually skipped MV REV Sorceress cause I wasn’t quite sure about her. Now it looks like I’ll have no classic Sorceress in that size… or like you, I’ll have to pay up.
Even though I’m more of a traditionalist for MOTU at heart, I love the Movie Chronicles doll Sorceress, she’s certainly not fitting for my main MV setup, but I like how she looks. I have a good selection of movie figures in various sizes now, a colorful mix of heights and design aesthetics, she will fit right in. (Chronicles are the least of them, it’s mostly Core and Origins)
@djfor @cosmic If I were to consider joining the ‘Chronicles’ toy range, it would be with the aim of reinterpreting a few characters (Clawful, Mer-man), in the hope of army building a few factions for their respective leaders. It should be noted, however, that nothing is yet definite at this stage. I am inclined to exercise my democratic right by voting with my wallet. It remains to be seen though how Mattel will address its collectors of 6- to 7-inch MOTU figures as an unbearable trend of cutting short their characters selection (Motuc, Masterverse) seems harder and harder to ignore. I mean, are we being punished for giving them both of our enthusiasm and money ? 😅😆
