I am going to be absolutely PISSED OFF if we get those stupid Masks of Power demons but not Saurod and Blade! Or Cartoon Collection Glimmer for that matter.

There's still a chance that the Filmation CC will move to MC after they finish most of the VC.

It may take a while longer, but they say we’re definitely getting all the vintage characters remade.

I just saw the bit where they limit their commitment, but they also say they are looking into stuff.

Next year is the anniversary of the 87 movie, maybe that’s when they do them, along with new figures based on the film, that were planned but never made (Karg, Troopers,…)

There still might be more reveals this weekend, plus at other events this year…

Meanwhile, I think the Mask Demons have been much requested by some fans, and should be a fun addition.

Origins Vintage Laser Light Skeletor confirmed

Looks like my predictions were spot on. I get the sense that Damon, the spokesman at Mattel, was subtly preparing fans for the possibility that the ’87 movie figures might not be produced. He said, “I believe the promise we made to complete the line ended with… the line just before the ’87 characters.” After that, he hinted that the giants (Tytus, Megator) aren’t in the plans. Now it’s just a matter of seeing what the future holds for the closure of the initial line, especially since it’s currently being rebooted. PS: The time code to find that statement is 10:17.

But when Pixel Dan followed up on that statement, Damon said they are looking at ways to expand beyond that promise.

I’m just now hearing this, about their original promise. But, he literally said nothing is off-limits, too. After all, they do want to string along the vintage fans while trying to keep Origins alive at retail.

Absolutely right. It is total bullshit to backtrack and claim the promise to finish the vintage line somehow doesn't include the movie figures. That was never the case, they clearly said finish the vintage line that means everyone. Sure he said they're not off the table, but why bring it up at all them unless they are specifically saying "we can do them but aren't planning to right now"?

"Expanding beyond the promise" clearly means releasing characters who didn't have vintage figures, but it falls flat if you back out of the actual promise and don't release everyone who did.

And those masks of power demons, yeah I know people have been asking for them since Classics, but I really don't understand why. They're not that interesting. To each their own I guess, but not at the expense of pivotal core characters like Glimmer

They might want to string along fans of the Vintage Collection, but after Laser Light Skeletor and Two-Bad, a lot of people might drop off, not wanting the two energy zoids at all. Personally, if it weren't for the mini comics, I would skip the energy zoids too. I think it's a question of what they're going to do with the eighty seven movie characters after they finish most of the vintage characters. They have a lot of options POP, NA, 200X, both movies now.

@smitty-81 It’s weird nobody remembers that the promise didn’t include the movie figures.

I agree with you on what Mattel is thinking and that interest will wane after the two announced vintages.

I think a lot of people want the 87 movies because they were part of the vintage toyline. Find it a bit arbitrary to not include them. Wether people liked the old movie or not, the characters were part of the true, one and only, vintage toy line! They were included in comics, even in Revelation / Revolution.

For Mattel, they are harder to create, yes, while also slightly less popular. There are fans who somehow, perhaps because they dislike the old movie, don’t see them as canonical. That is really consciously selective  and not objective.

I didn’t see the movie till years later– for ME they were just like the other figures of that wave.

The Zoids, ok they were not released everywhere, neither were the Giants or even the dinos. For that matter though, neither were the Laser figures, let alone the Lost Wave.
The Classics Laser figures are not that popular / expensive.

I know there are arguments for and against, yada yada, interest wanes after the next couple vintage releases, yes,…
I just hope they do make the movie figures.

I do wish we can get everything for everyone all at once 😀

No one remembers that they were excluding the '87 characters because this is the first time they said it. But with all the hate that movie gets I can see why they don't want to. There could also be likeness rights or ownership rights. I know they did some '87 characters in Masterverse, but getting those right could have been temporary.

I had lost interest in MOTU by the time the energy zoids came out, so I did not know about them until many years later, and really the freak me out, and reading the mini comic collection did not help.

One thing they did not talk about at all was PoG and I think they'll include the giants, Plasmar and Strobo with that.

I'm reaching Dan's video right now and Damon does not want to give a solid answer regarding the '87 stuff or the giants, but he smiles and laughs, he almost looks excited, like he's got a surprise. He also seems to be very carful about what he's saying, like he was told to keep a secret.

@smitty-81 With the ‘87 rights, there were issues with William Stout, but they did eventually get them for Classics, and again for Masterverse. It’s true they could be passed or dicey to negotiate.

But you never know, the vintage movie toy figs were quite simplified versions, Gwildor looked totally different, and they never did include He-Man and Skeletor,… who knows.

I think a lot of the fans of the old movie are non-MOTU fans who like wacky cult movies. I do see that online. Not helping toy sales tho.

There are MOTU fans that enjoy the movie I think, just seeing it as a different thing. How many, not sure.

International fans totally include the movie figs I think, the movie wasn’t as well known and kids just took the figures at face value.

I think Zoids didn’t make it to retail in Europe, so I personally don’t care too much, and you’re right they are weird. The laser figs are a nice bonus for me, not essential since I didn’t know about them then, so would be the giants. I’d take them though, even in smaller size (almost prefer that). I’ll take the Zoids too, I guess, if they have a comic.

@smitty-81 Oh yeah, and I think you’re right that PoG will have more stuff, whichever. Possibly adding Strobo… many possibilities.

Right now I'm thinking the VC will include Rotar and Twistoid, and that's it aside from any new characters they include in the VC like Expandor and Sting-Or.

Powers of Grayskull will include...

  • Eldor
  • Plasmar
  • Strobo
  • Drago-Men

Then they'll have another collection with '87 movie characters.

Aside from the hate the 87 movie gets everyone loves the figures and consider the vintage line incomplete without them

@andy_wan_kenobi I think it'd be awesome if they did more than the two giants.

The Zoids are a must-have. I'd say add a Horde one and a Snake Man one. Maybe a POP one.

ZOIDS FOR EVERYONE!!!

@kinggrayskull09 I've got greater attachment (and therefore desire) for Procrustus from The Magic Stealer! mini-comic than the PoG Giants

Amen, @cosmic

I’d love to see everything from the posts above this one. It’d be like Christmas came from Eternia! Procrustus and the giants would be at the top of my list, for sure. With Battle-Rams for all!

This build a figure reboot line is a little frustrating on multiple levels.

I really hope they round out Filmation CC and 200X CC.

Filmation - Kobra Khan, Mekaneck, Moss Man, Sy-Klone, Zodac, Sorceress, Marzo+

200X - Stinkor, Mekaneck, Fisto, Two-Bad+

Nope.

It's been trapped (pun intended) on Walmart's website for so long... as sold out.

I haven't seen any reports of anyone in the U.S. finding him in-store yet.

I had to get mine through a Canadian seller.

I would be perfectly stoked for this!

And, afterward (or running concurrently), Mattel could start to make Jetlag characters in their New Adventures CC line... maybe after they release one more wave of 200X.

As much as I was NA characters I want them on the VC bodies.

New Adventures, the way it should have been.

@smitty-81 This absolutely. Let's not repeat the awful mistake vintage NA made by putting the figures on different scale and slimmer buck than vintage MOTU *smh*...what an own goal by Mattel back in the day...
