I can't speak for Melendy Britt, but I hated how SPoPs sent the whole series giving the message that the power come from faith in yourself, then ended with true loves first kiss saving the day.

I think the horses were more connected to the toy line. Im not sure how many show up in the cartoon, but Swiftwind, Arrow and a yellow horse were in the mini comics, at least that I can remember. Also...

Creative license by the mini comic writer. And when that happens in a character's origin it basically becomes canon.

@yen1893 if I recall King Hiss has Blast Attack built in the mini comics. King Hiss is definitely the one who sends Blast Attack to be a menace.
