So, Paramount is making a Golden Axe cartoon and it's..... um, a comedy? Satire? Parody? Mockery?
I don't understand this fascination with taking something serious (Golden Axe should me a mix of Conan and D&D) and turning it into a self-humiliating, Teen Titans GO!, Rick & Morty, ThunderCats ROAR type of show.
I'm not sure if any of you are familiar with the Golden Axe video games, but for me, GA would be one of the five games I would take with me to a desert island. I have been infatuated with the series since its debut in 1989. Even when I was little, He-Man was Ax Battler, Teela was Tyris Flare, and Ram-Man was Gilius Thunderhead in my toybox... later I made custom versions of the characters with the Remco and PoP toys, and later still, I made custom GA figures from MOTU Classics / Mythic Legions.
In 2020, Storm Collectibles released officially licensed Golden Axe figures and I snapped them up faster than any other toy I ever owned.
Needless to say, I am a big fan of the property (not so much of some of the individual games... *cough* Beast Rider and GA III, I'm looking at you *cough*), and when wind of this animated series hit, I was ecstatic! But now, Ax Battler is gap-toothed, Gilius looks like a hobo, and Tyris is no longer the sexy, Red Sonja character she should be. *sigh* 😪
Anyway, rant is over... maybe some good can come of this...?
