Tonight on MasterChef was a Pies & Ice Cream Mystery Box Challenge set by guest chef and judge Curtis Stone (and the regular judges Poh, Sofia, Andy & Jean-Christophe of course). The contestants had either a pie or an ice cream under their box so that is what they had to create.

*The contestants who made pies were: Hannah, Grace, Casper, Aaron, Alyona, Jack & Dot.
 
*The contestants who made ice cream were: Luke, Annabel, Vinnie, Emily, Jackie & Petro.
 
*Pat decided to be an overachiever and make BOTH a pie and an ice cream!

 
*Not only will the makers of the best pie and the best ice cream win Immunity from tomorrow night's Elimination, but their creations will be mass produced and sold in stores across the country this week.
 
 
The contestants who won the prize of the top ice cream and the top pie were Hannah & Pat!

*Note - only Pat's ice cream won - although his pie was delicious and well-received, it was the ice cream that pleased the judges more.
 
 
 
Congratulations for the Immunity win Hannah & Pat, and for having their pie and ice cream in stores. I am only interested in trying the ice cream of course.
 
Tomorrow is an Elimination (presided over by Curtis Stone again), the season's previously eliminated contestants will return Tuesday night where the best dish will see its maker reinstated, but Wednesday is another Elimination (Native Australian Ingredients) with guest Robert Irwin with no more chances to be reinstated.

Tonight on MasterChef, Curtis Stone was back and he led the contestants in a pork themed Elimination Challenge (not exactly my kind of cuisine given that I am vegetarian). Pat & Hannah won Immunity last night so they did not play tonight.
 
The least favourable dish would see their maker sent home.
 
As I said, it's not my kind of food but I will share photos of the best dish.
 
The Best Dish belonged to Dot with her Pork & Peaches (Prosciutto Wrapped Pork, Parsnip Puree, Grilled Peaches & Peach Ketchup).

The Bottom Dishes were Jack & Alyona.
 
*Alyona severely burned her hand and although she chose to complete her dish, she suffered through it after the accident.
 
Jack's pork was rubbery and not crispy enough and his veggie dishes seemed to be a mismatch of cultures, while Alyona's dish suffered for lack of a sauce and her vegetable purees were grainy in texture.
 
In the end it was Jack who served the least impressive dish so he was Eliminated. I am sad for Jack because he was one of my favourites. Bye Jack!

Tonight on MasterChef, 8 of the 11 contestants who have been Eliminated so far this season returned for a Second Chance in the competition. Only one of them could be reinstated. It appears that Olaolu, Kanika & Jeff aren't coming back for this opportunity (I'm not sure why, although perhaps they couldn't fit it into their personal schedule with work and family and stuff).
 
However Miin, Alita, Lydia, Belinda, Megs, Lucy, Bella & Jack all returned for a second chance. Also, the contestant who was reinstated would also win Immunity from tomorrow night's Elimination - no more returns after that though!

Tonight, the judges asked the 8 contestants what they would have liked to have cooked in the MasterChef kitchen had they NOT been Eliminated. That was the challenge they were given.
 
 
The 3 least favourable dishes included Jack whose attempt at making several dishes at once (snapper, prawns, scallops, steak, leeks and potatoes) made his cooking uneven, he should have focused on making one perfect dish instead of several slightly flawed ones; Alita, whose dumplings were under seasoned although her seafood bisque was praised; and Megs whose butter sauce for her seafood dish was far too runny and could have used a little cream to give better viscosity.

However, as there was only one available spot for being reinstated, that honour for the most inventive dish went to Bella! Congratulations & Welcome Back Bella! Her chocolate and capsicum dish absolutely wowed the judges with the flavours and sheer inventiveness.
 
Bella of course has also won Immunity so she will be safe tomorrow.

*I am sad Jack wasn't able to make a comeback though. He and Luke were among my favourites. Let's hope Luke doesn't go home next.

Tonight on MasterChef, the Loveable Larrikin & Aussie Icon Robert Irwin (middle) joined regular judges Poh Ling Yeow, Jean-Christophe Novelli, Sofia Levin & Andy Allen to preside over the evening. Robert even high fived the contestants and danced with the judges! It was so cute and funny.

Tonight was all about Native Australian Ingredients and it was an Elimination Challenge for all the contestants (except for the newly-reinstated Bella who won Immunity as well last night).
 
Robert brought 5 native ingredients which included: lilly-pilly, ooray plums, wattleseed, lemon myrtle & rivermint. The contestants had to hero at least one of these ingredients.

The Bottom Dishes included: Dot, Hannah, Grace & Luke.
 
 
 Dot's Rivermint Doughnuts looked delicious but the rivermint itself was way too overpowering and lacked balance with other flavours like the ooray-raspberry jam and rivermint-white chocolate creme patisserie and rivermint sugar; Luke's Lilly Pilly Mille-Feuille had a few flaws, pastry that he burned but was able to salvage, but his creme patisserie was too thick and bouncy which it shouldn't have been; Hannah's Dark Chocolate Mousse, Ooray Plum Gel, Macadamia Crumb & Ooray Chantilly Cream sounded like a lot, but the portion was miniscule especially for five judges to get an adequate taste; and Grace's Lemon Myrtle Fritto Miso & Lemon Myrtle Salt suffered because the prawns were undercooked.
