I am sorry for Miin, but I am glad Luke & Jack both get to cook another day! They are both talented young lads.
 
 
Tuesday night is the Relay Challenge and lovely Justine Schofield has an Immunity Pin Challenge on Wednesday.

Tonight on MasterChef was the dreaded Relay Challenge, our remaining 16 contestants were divided into teams of 4 with coloured aprons. A team leader was chosen for each team, and then one of the team members was brought in to take over and so on until the final contestant in each team finished the dish.
 
The teams were told that Greek Yoghurt was supposed to be the star ingredient of each dish.
 
The teams in order of member appearance and their dish are:
 
 
Team Purple (Jack, Hannah, Vinnie & Casper) - Herb Crusted Lamb, Yoghurt Black Garlic Sauce, Hasselback Potatoes & Honey Cumin Glazed Carrots
 
*This was the only team who had no flaws in their dish and maintained excellent communication throughout.

Team Blue (Alyona, Olaolu, Luke & Lydia) - Calamari, Flatbread, Greek Salad, & Yoghurt Tzatziki Sauce
 
*This was originally going to be a chicken dish, but neither Alyona nor Olaolu seasoned the chicken very well and it was very dry, so Luke changed direction on his own accord and turned it into a seafood dish, which Lydia finished. It turns out calamari was not such a good idea as the sauce completely overpowered the seafood which was distinctly lacking in flavour as a result leaving the dish unbalanced.

Team Red (Petro, Emily, Annabel & Pat) - Pork Skewers, Yoghurt Sauce, Yoghurt Flatbread, Herb Salad & Pickled Onions. 
 
*The dish failed largely due to Petro's mistake in accidentally telling Emily to use plain flour in the flatbread instead of self-raising flour, and her doing so. The pork was dry and the tahini affected the tzatziki in a negative way.

Team Green (Dot, Jackie, Aaron & Grace) - Upside Down Honey Thyme Orange & Pear Tart & Greek Yoghurt Ice Cream. 
 
*Oh where to start...this dish was going to originally be a galette, but Dot said tarte tatin by mistake, and then she forgot to explain to Jackie that the pastry she made was short-crust and not puff pastry, which led Jackie to kneading the pastry to the point where it lost all sense of pliability and texture. The pastry was completely raw in the end and although the caramelised fruit and ice cream were delicious, the pastry screw-up ruined any chance this might have had.

It's a shame the dessert failed, as it was the only dish I would have wanted to eat!
 
The winning team were - obviously - the members of Team Purple and this means that Jack, Hannah, Vinnie & Casper will be competing in tomorrow night's Immunity Pin Challenge set by the fabulous Justine Schofield. 
 
Apparently, the judges (Andy, Poh, Sofia & Jean-Christophe) will be tasting the dishes without knowing who cooked which dish. Only Justine will know as she is taking over as host tomorrow.

Jack, Hannah, Vinnie & Casper (last night's winning team from the Relay Challenge) will be competing for the chance to win an Immunity Pin (just like Jackie did before she decided to cash it in to save herself from the last Elimination). Here's hoping tonight's winner will get to keep theirs a bit longer.

 
The four contestants had to make a dish from Classic French Cuisine as Justine is French on her mother's side. She also brought the dishes in for the judges to taste to keep the identities a secret until the right time. It was fun watching the judges try and guess who made which dish before the reveal just before the pin was awarded.

Casper's chicken was undercooked yet dry (his portions were too big for the pan); Hannah's sauce was too sweet and too thin (she forgot to add butter to the sauce), and Jack's bisque needed a bit more body and seasoning (he added the herbs late).

Sadly, no more MasterChef until Sunday but next week there are 2 Eliminations and 2 other challenges. We'll have to wait to see what these entail when they post the details on Instagram just ahead of time.

 I hope you guys are enjoying these updates, as we are already nearly halfway through the season! There are 16 contestants left, which means there will be 13 more Eliminations and then the 3RD place winner will go home with an instant prize, then the Top 2 will compete in the Grand Finale to see who wins the top 2 prizes.

 
Coming up next week is a visit by guests Matt Sinclair & Daniel Dobra, Classic Pairs Challenge, 2 Eliminations, and the Time Versus Ingredients Challenge!

Tonight on MasterChef it was Double Mystery Box night with guests Matt Sinclair & Daniel "Dobbers" Dobra joining our regular judges (Andy, Poh, Sofia & Jean-Christophe). One Mystery Box was labelled HOME COOK and was put together by Matt while the other was labelled RESTAURANT and was put together by Daniel.

The contestants then had to choose which box they would like to use and had to make that choice before seeing what was in the box.
 
 
The contestants who chose HOME COOK were: Dot, Grace, Jack, Jackie, Luke, Lydia, Olaolu, Pat & Vinnie.
 
The contestants who chose RESTAURANT were: Aaron, Alyona, Annbel, Casper, Emily, Hannah & Petro.
 
 
The contestant who made the BEST HOME COOK dish and the contestant who made the BEST RESTAURANT dish were Pat & Annabel respectively who both won Immunity from tomorrow night's Elimination.

Pat - Silverbeet & Parmesan Stuffed Chicken, Roast Pumpkin & Onion Puree 

 

Personally I thought Pat's dish looked simple and boring but I guess the flavours wowed the judges.
