In the end it was Kanika who had the most flaws so she was Eliminated. Bye Kanika!

Tonight on MasterChef was Fusion Night where the contestants had to choose two cultures to fuse together into one dish.

 
 
The Top 4 dishes were made by Alyona, Casper, Dot & Luke.

The Bottom 4 dishes were made by Jackie, Lucy, Miin & Vinnie.
 
 
Jackie's (South Korea & Italy) Steamed Fish & Tomato Broth was heavily flawed, her fish was overcooked and falling apart (not in a good way) and the skin was rubbery and thick, her broth also lacked flavour.
 
Lucy's (Vietnam & France) Ice Coffee Cruller was also heavily flawed, the coffee flavour in her doughnuts was very weak and the condensed milk glaze seemed to be tacked on at the last minute (she also burned her coffee crumb and had to discard it - and her hazelnuts substitution went to the other extreme and were raw).
 
Miin's (Mexico & India) Rasam Ceviche was let down by the lack of balance with the Indian spices being overtaken by all the Mexican spices.
 
Vinnie's (Thailand & Italy) Mango Sticky Rice Arancini was let down by the mushiness of his rice in the arancini balls.
 

Sigh, once again Jackie finds herself in the bottom, she may even be forced to play her Immunity Pin tomorrow, but even if she is able so save herself, I don't have a lot of confidence in her staying very long in this competition. I feel it is only a matter of time before she goes home.
 
The makers of the Bottom 4 dishes (Jackie, Lucy, Miin & Vinnie) will need to compete in tomorrow night's Pressure Test Elimination set by the main judges (Andy, Poh, Sofia & Jean-Christophe) and guest Rosheen Kaul.
 
After tomorrow we will have to wait until Sunday again for a new week of MasterChef!
 
There will be 14 more Eliminations after tomorrow and then we will have the Top 3.
 
Someone will go home with an instant 3RD Prize and then the Top 2 will compete for the championship and runner-up prizes.
 
Then comes the wait for the next season in 2027!

Tonight on MasterChef, the four contestants who made last night's least favourable dishes (Jackie, Lucy, Miin & Vinnie) had to make a Stuffed Cabbage dish called Chou Farci which was brought in by guest chef Rosheen Kaul as a Pressure Test.

A Chou Farci consists of a layer of caramelised zucchini puree, layers of cabbage, morel & shiitake mushroom duxelles, jasmine rice cooked with lily bulbs and charred vegetable stock, spinach & tofu mousseline, a soft boiled egg inside and the whole mishmash is wrapped in cabbage leaves and served with a garlic chive & parsley beurre monte and chilli oil.

The contestant whose dish least resembled Rosheen's dish in presentation and taste would be sent home.
 
Jackie decided to play it smart and cash in her Immunity Pin, I think she knew this dish would be beyond her skill set.
 
Thus it came down to Lucy, Miin & Vinnie.
 
 
Miin had an early setback and used too many mushrooms in the stock and nearly didn't have enough left for the duxelle. His Chou Farci had a little bit of spillage during the presentation, but his flavours were sound.
 
Vinnie was such a powerhouse and really performed well at first but he was too heavy handed with the salt though.

Lucy had serious problems with time and some of her elements were rushed which affected the look and taste of the dish. She didn't cook her zucchinis long enough and her mousseline was far too thin. Her cabbage was inconsistently cooked and was crunchy when it should have been tender.
 
The contestant who was Eliminated was Lucy. Bye Lucy!

Next week we have Family Nostalgia Night, guest chef Vincent Leow Yim, lovely guest TV personality Justine Schofield (with another Immunity Pin on offer) and yes, even time to break out the coloured team aprons again for...THE DREADED RELAY!

Tonight on MasterChef, guest chef Vincent Yeow Lim set a Mystery Box challenge for our contestants where they had to include one steamed element in an otherwise free-for-all challenge. The makers of the two best dishes will win Immunity from tomorrow night's Family Nostalgia Elimination Challenge.

Tonight on MasterChef was something of a double-edged sword on a couple of levels. The contestants had to create a dish inspired by their family tree - except for Dot & Aaron who won Immunity last night and aren't competing tonight.

 
The contestants were told the maker of the best dish will win a surprise $10,000! Unfortunately for Dot & Aaron, their Immunity from tonight's Elimination also means they have to forego the chance to win the cash!
 
 
The winner of the $10,000 is Olaolu and his Nigerian Efo Riro (Beef & Vegetable Stew) & Semolina! Congratulations Olaolu!

*If the semolina looks and sounds bland, it is supposed to be because the stew is so rich and heavily spiced, it needs a bland accompaniment to balance it which is the nature of the particular dish!

The Bottom 4 dishes were: Luke, Jack, Grace & Miin.
 
Luke's paella more closely resembled a soggy risotto (and the entire cooking process lacked vision); Jack's golden syrup dumplings were too sweet and needed balance; Grace's ice cream sundae wasn't exactly earth shattering and was rather mundane plus the ice cream was runny; and Miin's duck for his soup was terribly under cooked and under seasoned, plus his failure to make the noodles work (three times) and a last minute rice substitution also screwed up the dish.
