There were a few clunkers, most notably by the Bottom 2 - Jackie & Megs.
 
 
Jackie tried to create a Duck Breast & Scallion Pancake, Chilli Oil & Hoisin Sauce. She did not cook her duck until way too late and it ended up being unusable so she ditched it and just served up the pancake with sauces. The pancake was very good but the dish was lacking.
 
Megs tried to do way too much in too short a time with three dishes - Prawns & Herb Butter, Crispy Potatoes & Crostini. She botched the main dish completely and served uncooked and inedible prawns, resulting in her Elimination, thus being the first to leave the competition. Bye Megs!

Tomorrow night the contestants have to use cereal to base a whole new dish on. The least five favourable dishes will see their makers enter another Elimination Challenge which will probably be the Pressure Test set by legend Maggie Beer on Wednesday.

Tonight on MasterChef was all about getting creative with breakfast cereal and making a whole unique dish based on that ingredient. Some people made sweet dishes and some people made savoury dishes.

 
The Top 3 dishes according to the judges were made by Dot, Aaron & Petro.

Aaron made Steak Tartare, Corn Flake Shells & Wasabi Cream. Being vegetarian and gagging at the thought of the tartare, this one does not appeal to me in the slightest.

However, the judges were looking for the Bottom 5 dishes to compete in tomorrow night's Pressure Test Elimination, set by legend and icon Maggie Beer. 
 
Those five contestants were Pat, Jeff, Luke, Jackie & Vinnie. 
 
Pat tried too many dishes - prawns and another steak tartare - and none were successful, Jackie overpowered her Coco Pops infused dish by adding extra cocoa powder which made the dish redundant, Jeff's mille feuille dish was way too soggy (there was definitely no snap, crackle or pop going on there), Luke's fried chicken was underpowered and bland and the Corn Flake crumb was inconsistent in texture, and Vinnie made cannoli which was way too thick and the cream was grainy.
 
Tomorrow, Pat, Jeff, Luke, Jackie & Vinnie will be making Maggie's Pies, whether sweet or savoury, I don't know yet. For one of them, it will be their final cook in the contest.
 
 This is Jackie's second time in the bottom, so she needs to pick up her game.
 
That will be it for MasterChef until Sunday - Wednesday of next week, where the first couple of challenges include guest judge Andy Hearnden's Immunity Challenge (Sunday) and a Reinventing Carbs Elimination Challenge (Monday). I'm not sure what those entail or what next Tuesday or Wednesday's challenges are.

The five contestants (Pat, Vinnie, Jeff, Luke & Jackie) who were competing in the Elimination Pressure Test tonight had to make this recipe, although they got the choice of filling, whether it be sweet or savoury.

 
*Everyone chose savoury!

 
They also had to make a side dish and a sauce to go with the pie.

The Top 2 were Pat & Luke. Although Luke was one of the two contestants to get their pie in the oven rather late, and his presentation could have used refinement, their flavours were very sound. Pat had the most perfect result of all.
 
Vinnie's dish was a little too rich but his salad gave a refreshing respite from that. His overall effort was smack in the middle.
 
The Bottom 2 were Jackie & Jeff. 
 
Jackie's sticky rice in her pie was very heavy and the result was way too dense and the base was undercooked. As for Jeff, he also got his pie in rather late and his pastry was also undercooked as was the filling.
 
 
Sadly since Jeff served up the least favourable pie, he was Eliminated. Bye Jeff.
 
 
Jackie should be worried, this is her third time in the bottom already.
 
I am so glad Luke did well though.💖
 
Also, sadly, this is it for MasterChef until Sunday!
 
Next week, along with the other tests there will be a Team Challenge, which I hope for the sake of the contestants isn't a Relay Challenge! They are scary, even to watch.

In past seasons, Eliminations used to be on Sundays & Tuesdays but this year they are on Mondays & Wednesdays. It's kind of nice to shake things up a bit.☺️

Tonight is Breakfast Night on MasterChef! An oxymoron I know.

 
Andy Hearnden (also known as Andy Cooks) was a guest judge on the show joining our esteemed regular judges (Andy Allen, Poh Ling Yeow, Sofia Levin & Jean-Christophe Novelli). Of the 19 contestants left, only the 12 most appealing dishes will be tasted tonight. Then the 4 best breakfasts will win Immunity from tomorrow night's Elimination Challenge.

Kanika who made Uttapam (Dosa Flatbread), Coconut Chutney, Garlic Tomato Chutney & Sambar. Her red sauces were so fiery and spicy, she nearly blew the judges' heads off!
