Now for the four bottom dishes: Rue Mupedzi, Tim Bone, Audra Morrice and sadly Sarah Todd.

Rue made a rather boring looking pineapple and chilli dessert where the soft element was too icy and the granita was too slushy. She essentially did everything backwards.

Tim made a prawn and chilli seafood bisque dish but undercooked the seafood itself, and the judges couldn't eat it.

Audra made a dish of small cakes which would have worked better as one whole cake, and you could barely tell there was any chilli there.

Sarah made a dish of lime and chilli sorbet with a hibiscus tea syrup but her elements weren't cohesive enough to work together.

Tomorrow night, Rue, Tim, Audra & Sarah must recreate a dessert created by Blayne Bertoncello - but they have to make 5 of the same dish, one for each judge (Andy, Poh, Sofia & Jean-Christophe) and for the guest Blayne. They have to be identical to the source dish or as close as possible. The least successful dish in looks, taste and uniformity will lead to an elimination.

I am hoping Sarah can save herself and NOT be eliminated.

Tonight on MasterChef, guest chef/judge Blayne Bertoncello brought in his delicious dessert called Variations Of Sourdough & Strawberry With Balsamic & Elderflower.

The elements included sugar syrup, sourdough pastry cream, strawberry sorbet (using the fruit & the leaves), strawberry gum oil, sourdough bread crumbs, sourdough tuile, balsamic gel, strawberry gum emulsion, macerated strawberries, & elderflower crisp.

The creators of last night's four least successful dishes (Sarah Todd, Rue Mupedzi, Tim Bone & Audra Morrice) had to recreate the dish five times, one for Blayne and one for each of the four main judges (Poh Ling Yeow, Sofia Levin, Andy Allen & Jean-Christophe Novelli).

Any worries I had for Sarah went right out the window, she made the dish(es) PERFECTLY and was the first one announced as safe. There was nothing the judges could critique, her work was flawless and she did not struggle once. That's my girl! My lovely Depinder has cause to worry if she wants to be Queen Of This Kitchen. Naturally I want them both in the Top 2 at the end of the contest.

The other notable dish was made by Audra, who had struggled with some of her elements, especially the strawberry gum emulsion, but she came through in the end, although her balsamic element was a little on the weak side.

This left Tim & Rue as the Bottom 2.

*Before I get further into this, I have to give kudos to Tim. Usually in "reality TV shows" everyone is out for themselves and would stab each other in the back without thinking twice. In MasterChef, the contestants aren't just contestants or even just friends, they are family and they show this. After Tim had struggled with his emulsion, he noticed Rue & Audra had also struggled with this element, so he gave them some ideas to give more strength and cohesion to this element with egg, xantham gum and glucose. He cared enough to give aid and advice where needed. It may not have worked ideally, but the thought and care were there. I've seen this kind of kindness and compassion in this series many times. This is the real reason I watch, it's not just about the food. This is why I have enjoyed many personal friendships among the contestants on Instagram and so forth. They really value their fans too.

Tim's sourdough tuile was far too thick, which affected the texture and the taste of the dish and his emulsion had split like a bad mayonnaise.

Rue had the most problems though, her emulsion was too hard and thick and had the consistency of butter, and her balsamic was runny instead of being like the gel it was supposed to be. In the end, these flaws could not be overlooked and she was eliminated. I knew this was coming, but we say Farewell & Best Wishes Rue!

Tomorrow night is the Relay Challenge where teams are divided by colour apron into teams and the winning team will win Immunity from Sunday's Elimination. They had a mini-relay the other week, but this is the big relay of the season. I am hoping for excellent results for Depinder & Sarah (I not only would love them to be on the same team, but if they are, I hope they win the challenge. If not, I hope one of them at least wins it and is safe from Sunday.)

Tonight on MasterChef was the always challenging, sometimes fearsome and delightfully madcap Relay Challenge!

The challenge though this time was that the teams had to incorporate 2 - or more - different potato elements to their overall dish.

In order to win Immunity from Sunday's Elimination, the 16 remaining contestants had to divide into 4 groups of 4, by taking a coloured apron from a bag and taking position in their respective teams. Sadly Depinder & Sarah were on different teams.

The teams this time were:

THE PURPLE TEAM: Andre Ursini, Callum Hann, Depinder Chhibber & Laura Sharrad.

THE YELLOW TEAM: Audra Morrice, Beau Cook, Darrsh Clarke & Theo Loizou.

THE RED TEAM: Alana Lowes, Jamie Fleming, Samira El Khafir & Sarah Todd.

THE TURQUOISE TEAM: Ben MacDonald, Declan Cleary, Snezana Calic & Tim Bone.

This time, they had to delegate a Team Leader to start the dish, then change over to the next team member and so on until each member of each team added to the final dish preceded by a short briefing about what has already been done so far. Team Leaders were Callum, Darrsh, Jamie & Ben.

Callum passed the torch on to Laura who passed the torch on to Depinder who passed the torch to Andre who finished and plated the dish.

Darrsh passed the torch on to Beau who passed the torch on to Theo who passed the torch to Audra who finished and plated the dish.

Jamie passed the torch on to Samira who passed the torch on to Sarah who passed the torch to Alana who finished and plated the dish.

Ben passed the torch on to Declan who passed the torch on to Tim who passed the torch to Snezana who finished and plated the dish.

Starting with TEAM YELLOW, they ended up creating pork chops with pomme puree, hasselback potatoes and radish & fennel salad. This dish was labelled by the judges as too basic, too simple and not especially interesting. Although Darrsh & Beau started the dish, by the time the last two cooks took the helm, they had run out of steam. Theo was largely to blame for this as he stubbornly refused to change the dish after the judges' initial critique and by the time Audra came to finish, she stood by Theo's decision, although she did add the salad at the end.

Another problematic dish came with TEAM RED. They made lamb chops with three different styles of potatoes, mashed, garlic confit & crispy, and honeyed carrots. The main problem started right at the beginning with Jamie who insisted on making something called a "Lancashire Hot Pot", the problem was that nobody else on the team even knew what this was, and neither did the judges and Jamie did not communicate well enough to his team. Samira & Sarah are used to making exotic spiced dishes (much like Depinder), they are not used to bland English food. Again, the dish was not creative enough. There really wasn't a lot Alana could do to jazz this up.

If you thought these two teams had problems, wait until you check out TEAM TURQUOISE'S dish! Mr Ben "I Still Have My Immunity Pin" MacDonald started a fish with herb sauce dish, and handed the reins to Declan (the seafood expert) who handled that part rather well, and started to add some fried potatoes to the dish. Tim then started a potato puree and added grilled zucchini and fennel salad to the mix, but he neglected the chips. Declan & Tim failed to remind Snezana that there were supposed to be TWO potato elements, and she completely overlooked the chips as well and only added the puree to the dish. The almost burnt fries/chips were TWO INCHES away from her & Tim, how could they miss this! The serious lack of communication in this team and the failure to meet the brief disqualified them from contention in the Immunity and they were taken out of the running.

Now we have TEAM PURPLE. From the very beginning they had a clear idea of what dish they were trying to create, they had excellent communication between themselves and they showed what a team really was supposed to be. There was only one error, which could have been critical, but it was rescued by keen intuition and talent. Callum had a vision for a dish consisting of fish, potato noodles and crispy potato skins, charred potato skin broth, pickled pipis, bay oil, caviar and fennel fronds. Laura picked up on this and continued on this path, and for a while did well, but she had some problems with the noodles which she overcooked and they were slightly mushy. Depinder stepped in and completely remade the noodles but she made sure they were neither overcooked nor undercooked, thus saving the dish from another possible catastrophe. Andre took over and made the dish into a feast for the eye and palate.

Needless to say it was TEAM PURPLE (Andre, Callum, Depinder & Laura) who won the Immunity from Sunday's Elimination. They are all SAFE! I am so delighted, especially for Depinder of course!

Sadly, this means that Sarah is still vulnerable along with Audra, Beau, Darrsh, Theo, Alana, Jamie, Samira, Declan, Snezana & Tim.

Ben of course has his Immunity Pin to save himself if he needs it.

I just hope Sarah is NOT eliminated!

Here are some of the highlights for this week's MasterChef episodes. We will be treated to various guests like Aussie drag queen comedy troupe Sooshi Mango (Joe & Carlo Salanitri & Andrew Manfre), last year's Dessert Masters winner John Demetrios and chef Andy Cooks.

I also love the butter sculpture of judge Jean-Christophe Novelli. I would have loved butter sculptures of the other judges - Sofia Levin, Poh Ling Yeow & Andy Allen.

The theme on Sunday night obviously is BUTTER and as I said, it's an Elimination Challenge.

I am delighted Depinder is safe this weekend, I believe this is the 4TH Immunity she has won this season. I do truly hope Sarah is fortunate enough to make it through the elimination unscathed.

Monday will be a Mystery Box, Tuesday will be a Pressure Test Elimination and Wednesday will be either a Service Challenge or some other form of Immunity Challenge to be safe from next Sunday. Let's hope Depinder will make it her 5TH Immunity win or that Sarah will be lucky as well, as I want both to shine. After tomorrow we will have the Top 15. By the end of the week we will have 13 contestants left. Then soon we'll have the Top 10 and so forth.

I made a slight miscalculation regarding this week's MasterChef schedule. The drag queen comedy troupe (Sooshi Mango) presides over the Mystery Box Challenge TOMORROW night, not TONIGHT

Tuesday will be a Pressure Test Elimination and Wednesday will be an Immunity Challenge of some kind, presided over by John Demetrios & Andy Cooks respectively. Or that may be vice versa. They like to shake things up sometimes.

Anyway, tonight's theme was BUTTER in all its glory! It was also an Elimination Challenge.

Depinder Chhibber, Laura Sharrad, Andre Ursini & Callum Hann of course were Immune from tonight's challenge and did not need to play.

Most of the contestants performed well, especially tonight's Top 4 (Sarah Todd, Samira El Khafir, Jamie Fleming & Beau Cook).

As I hoped, Sarah scored a winner again, and my hopes are soaring for bigger and better for my lovely friend (and Depinder of course).

Sarah made one of the best versions of Butter Chicken & Roti the judges said they have ever tasted, especially considering this dish appears to be everywhere these days. Her spicework was exceptional which elevated her version to giddy heights of perfection.

Sadly, there were two absolute clunker disasters which left Ben MacDonald & Tim Bone in the Bottom 2.

Ben made a Lamb & Butter dish but the lamb overtook the butter element completely, and it was just too fatty and left an unpleasant taste in the judges mouth. One of the judges, Jean-Christophe Novelli even said the dish was a disaster and he was NOT impressed, especially since the judges had warned Ben repeatedly. What made this especially mind boggling is that Ben knew he was in trouble but he stubbornly refused to cash in his Immunity Pin. To be sent home WITH a pin would have been a disgrace. I strongly believe that if Ben didn't have his pin, he would have been long gone by now, he has been in the bottom more times than even Rue was before she was sent home. I also feel that him receiving the pin in the first place was a fluke. I suspect he will not be in the kitchen much longer, once he inevitably is forced to cash it in.

However, one other contestant had an epic fail even worse than Ben's

Tim's ill-conceived idea of Duck In Garlic Confit Butter was horrendously undercooked and had the consistency of hard sinewy leather. It was too dangerous for the judges to taste so Tim was eliminated. Farewell Tim!

Tonight on MasterChef was a celebration of Italian Cuisine, and who better than three Italian Nonnas to preside over the events. Three classic Italian grandmotherly types...with a twist. A classic trio of drag queen chefs and comedians! The comedy troupe is known professionally as Sooshi Mango (real names - brothers Joe & Carlo Salanitri & friend Andrew Manfre) who joined our regular judges (Andy, Sofia, Poh & Jean-Christophe) to taste and critique the dishes. I'm not really familiar with Sooshi Mango admittedly, but they brought down the house and added a lot of fun to the night.

As for my lovely Depinder, while there was nothing technically wrong with her dish and her delicious and well-cooked flavours were well-received by those presiding, she sadly didn't meet the brief tonight. She tried to add her customary Indian spices to Italian cooking, and it didn't really look, feel or taste like a true Italian dish. My equally wonderful Sarah also has an Indian background and although she also made a well-cooked and flavourful dish, she was not as confident with her pasta making. Thankfully this was NOT an Elimination tonight. Since they very rarely make mistakes, I am confident they will rise to the top again and perhaps even make it to the Top 2.

There were a few other contestants who produced dishes that weren't as shipshape as they could have been.

Ben (redeeming himself from last night's horrendous debacle) made Salt Cod Croquettes, Sugo & Basil Mayonnaise. Sugo is a tomato and herb sauce which goes on the bottom of the croquette while the mayo goes on the top.

Andre made Buttermilk Ricotta Gnocchi, Charred Cucumber Consomme & Borage Oil.

Tomorrow night is a Pressure Test Elimination presided over by former Dessert Masters winner John Demetrios who is bringing an epic dessert for the contestants to recreate. Everyone except Laura, Ben, Snezana & Andre will be expected to compete, so I am worried that my lovely and talented stars Depinder & Sarah will both be vulnerable. However, Ben will be fortunate enough not to have to be in a position to be forced to use his pin. I am hoping the ladies will make it through, as they are usually such strong contenders and I want them both in the Finale Championship.

Wednesday will be another Immunity Challenge (overseen by guest Andy Cooks) to see who will be safe from Sunday's Elimination.

Tonight on MasterChef, the four winners from last night (Snezana Calic, Laura Sharrad, Ben MacDonald & Andre Ursini) had to recreate guest chef John Demetrios' Chocolate Meteor for him and our regular judges (Poh Ling Yeow, Sofia Levin, Andy Allen & Jean-Christophe Novelli)

The dessert was constructed of almond praline parfait, chocolate biscuit, milk chocolate caramel mousse, caramel sauce, & cherry compote. This would all be shaped into a small chocolate meteorite which was then sprayed with silver edible paint.

A balloon was then coated in tempered chocolate to create a thin shell. They had to pop the balloon (without destroying the shell) and then extract all the balloon pieces. Then they had to place the shell over the smaller meteorite inside. Using whiskey, they had to flambé the entire dessert after presenting it whole to the judges, the outer chocolate would thus melt away and the silver meteorite would be revealed and cut open for the judges to taste. The melted chocolate would form a choc-whiskey sauce around the inner meteorite.

Normally a Pressure Test is an Elimination, but tonight it was an Immunity, so Ben's Immunity Pin was not in jeopardy.

This was a good thing for Ben, since he and Andre kept breaking their chocolate balloon shells and left pieces of balloon inside the chocolate, which meant that it was not safe to flambé the dessert, which had a negative effect on the theatricality, aesthetics, texture and taste.

Also, Andre over whipped his cream, burnt his chocolate and overbaked his biscuit element on top of the balloon debacle. There was very little time to do all this again. Also, his dessert looked more like a soccer ball than a meteorite.

Because of the inability of Ben & Andre to flambé the dessert, it was incomplete in regard to theatricality, aesthetics, texture and taste.

If tonight had been an Elimination, then Ben would have assuredly been forced to play his pin and Andre would have been eliminated.

However, tonight was all about finding the BEST dish so the Immunity came down between Laura & Snezana. Both ladies performed well and although Laura also got pieces of balloon stuck in her chocolate, she skillfully extracted it, she had some holes to fill with melted chocolate, but she was able to complete the dish with its flambé effect.

Snezana had some trouble with tempering her chocolate so she had to redo it, but this was a blessing because she aced the dessert on the second try, and her chocolate-balloon work was impeccable. She was the only one to ace the balloon on the first try. Also since her dessert ended up being flawless, Snezana won the Immunity, so Well Done Snez!

Tomorrow night is all about Epic Sandwiches and it is another Immunity Challenge.

Sunday will be the next Elimination.

Tonight there were two rounds, the first round was all about gourmet sandwiches, and then the 3 contestants who made the best sandwiches had to compete in round two where they had to mash-up two different types of dishes into one. The contestant who won that round won Immunity.

Sarah decided to go all out and make a papadum with under-layers of egg, avocado, bacon and vegemite (I love Sarah but I hate vegemite). The judges told her that her vision of a deconstructed sandwich wasn't really a sandwich at all and she was taken out of contention. Sarah was adamant about her vision and would not budge. Personally, I think Sarah was right and the judges were wrong. I may be biased given how much I love Sarah & Depinder, but my view still stands. It was an open sandwich.

Samira actually made her own bread, and was the only contestant to do so, but she still didn't make the Top 3

Depinder and her salad roll were also somehow lost in the middle tonight, neither top nor bottom.

Theo didn't fare well as his fillings and various dressings made his sandwich all soggy.

Poor Declan bit into what he thought was a baby capsicum, but it was a Scotch Bonnet pepper! His face nearly melted off!

The Top 3 sandwiches were made by Jamie, Andre & Declan (after he recovered of course).

Jamie made a Croquetta Madame, made with canape rounds with fillings of prosciutto & cheese croquette, maple bechamel, & pickled shallot.
