So with the new movie out, it not having the best opening weekend despite good word of mouth even from people my age (early to mid 20s) who know nothing beyond Skeletor memes are still arguing which has been going on for years that He-man as a franchise can never work in modern day long term and will forever be liked by only nostalgic Gen Xers, which obviously is not true
but for a while I’ve kept having personal ideas about how I would personally pitch/make a new MOTU show
obviously Mattel would never look at it and green light some random unsolicited pitch from a random person with no experience in the entertainment industry (yet) which is why I feel like posting and sharing about it on this fan site
I would at least like to see how certain people in the fandom would react to a show like this
a good amount of tradition status quo changes but a ton of proof that the people behind it really care about the brand. A bit like Transformers Animated and even 2021 Netflix in that aspect
trust me, I have a LOT of ideas that just came to me, probably about a whole series bible worth.
If anyone’s interested, I would like to know thoughts, I have a lot more I’d be willing to share but here are some basics of the show that may get you intrigued:
- Try to convince Mattel to finally work something out with Dreamworks and Universal to finally get the full She-Ra cartoon rights (would be the biggest hurdle)
- As for previous franchise influences, I would take heavy influence from 200x and She-Ra 2018
- have He-Man and She-Ra be co-protagonists. Teens who are thrust into leading a big group of Masters. The show has mapped out five seasons, each having a different subtitle. The first season being called “He-Man and She-Ra: Masters of Eternia” don’t worry it gets beyond just Eternia
- One huge change I know some may be very iffy on: No secret identities. Rather He-Man and She-Ra has been a generational mantle for a royal Eternian firstborn for generations. If it’s a boy, they grew up to be He-Man before taking the throne. If it’s a girl, same thing with She-Ra but the current generation is interesting seeing as how they’re twins, for the first time ever, there’s a He-Man and She-Ra at the same time. Randor was once a He-Man and had his own group of Masters he led, as did Miro before him, but there’s rarely been a She-Ra throughout the royal family’s history.
- Adora was never taken by the Horde as an infant, but rather grew up in Eternos with Adam (because of this, it sometimes plays up comedic sibling arguing and tension Filmation never had) but DID go to Madam Razz’s boarding school at ages 11-15 on Etheria before it got attacked by the Horde and she was forced to go home, taking Glimmer and Bow with her. This happened a while before the show starts.
- When the show starts, Adam and Adora have been dubbed He-Man and She-Ra by their father for a few weeks at this point. Adam is a bit reckless with his heroism and Adora is conflicted on being the first She-Ra in ages. Then Skeletor and his five main minions attack Eternos for the first in a very long time.
- The good guys win the first fight for now, but the Lord of Destruction being back signals to Randor that it’s time. Time for the twins to start and learn lead their own group of Masters together, with Duncan being the second-in-command. They immediately take in their friend group (Remaining main hero cast. Teela, Orko, Ram Man, Bow and Glimmer) and Randor contacts many of his old teammates to join the cause and get back into action (Recurring hero cast. Fysto, Man-E, Stratos, Mekanek, Clamp Champ and a new character who is made to make like she would fit in with the OG 80s crew)
Reminder: I have these ideas just for fun that I take note of
