@sketchyskeletor I'm thrilled that the series, called "Revelation", has defied expectations and transcended the genre constraints often associated with the franchise. These are times that call for legitimate rethinking, too. If it can give pride of place to a well-known character like He-Man himself, while exploring her heritage and duty, what more could you ask for? Especially since Adam also benefits from a captivating storyline. Not to mention the intriguing connection between Skeletor and Evil-Lyn. In short, as you've probably gathered by now, I'm firmly in the thumbs-up camp (lol).
Okay I'm gonna make an argument that y'all aren't gonna like. Mattel will keep doing these crossovers for probably 1-2 more years because of one thing: More brand awareness. More brand awareness leading up to the upcoming film's potential success and beginning of a MOTU film franchise. I think they'll finally stop once the whole franchise is mainstream again on a scale not since the 80s, more and more kids of this generation will know who He-Man is (BTW sidenote I just finished with 200x, is 2021 Netflix decent enough of a watch?), etc., etc.
Again, should the movie be a big hit, it is then Mattel won't have the need anymore to try and get fandoms of other franchises invested in MOTU.
I love the crossover lines, and can't wait for the rumored Transformers crossover and the possibility of a DC crossover once Mattel starts making DC toys. And becoming "main stream" wont stop crossovers, just look at TMNT and TF.

It just didn't work for me I'm afraid - I was only watching it for potential figures!
It could have been 200X on steroids but instead we got yet another quintessential boy brand hijacked with the usual result of it bombing. It could and should have ran for years. Hell, even if they'd been honest about what it actually was.
You can watch the Netflix Kevin Smith show as 'content' but it's got serious storytelling flaws emanating from it's need to go girl boss. There's so much nonsensical and (poorly written) unnecessary stuff in there that's purely to get to the next scene of female representation.
Yeah I did watch Revelation and Revolution once I got back into MOTU in March and I knew fully well way before what the very controversial first episode twist was. Revelation for what it was for a guy like me going in knowing the twist simply....liked it. Not loved it, no. But thought it was great in basically every other aspect other than story. Though I find it weird how it was heavily advertised as if it was the sequel series to Filmation, 36 years later, when just purely looking at the two that's definitely not the case, but I like that in some scenes it felt like one, mainly Teela's flashbacks and Marlena knowing Adam's secret which was only touched on in one Filmation episode is a major plot point here. It's clear the writers really did their damn MOTU homework, but as a newer fan I would probably give it a B-.
My friend whose not even a fan but knows enough about the franchise suggested that the first season or at least first half of the season should've kept Adam alive and in-focus and THEN briefly kill him off for the audiences shock.
That being said Revolution on the other hand. DAMN I think it is amazing and a step up in basically every way and of course we're not getting a season 3 because Netflix. It honestly feels like a huge fluke that She-Ra is one of the only Netflix cartoons to actually get a proper run & conclusion.
@smitty-81 Yeah the movie if it's a huge hit won't stop the crossovers, but what I mean if it is, they'll stop taking over half of a years worth of Origins' line-up and start just being things like purely comics with no tie-in figures like in the 2010s.
I honestly have an idea for a purely comic MOTU crossover mini-series that's basically one of "Joke crossovers" akin to Archie meets the Punisher, Ren & Stimpy meet Spider-Man (Yes that's real), Archie vs. Predator and literally anything Scooby-Doo. Team-ups no one ask for but they play up the absurdity for laughs.
Would compare it to Transformers/My Little Pony in that it crosses over two of the companies biggest brands, one a sci-fi epic franchise with action, maturity, sometimes absurdity, etc. and the other a show originally made for young children that has a surprisingly big adult fanbase for certain reasons once you look into it.
Would say what that Mattel property it is but y'all aren't ready to hear it. 😉
Official poll question at Cretins (I eventually got it to work on my computer because they don't know mobiles exist). This is it, this is the extent of the poll. They don't even show you the results.
They have 26 pages beneath it, no joke, of people telling them to finish the original line and/or CC.
Meanwhile Toy Habits are doing their job for them and better. (I voted Bravestarr even though I could happily live without it)

That's actually hilarious. I almost wished I'd paid the price of admission for CG just to see if 😆
@sketchyskeletor Regarding the poll itself, I voted for Silverhawks as the obvious choice after ThunderCats. Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors was my second pick. Apart from the obvious affection I have for the cartoon, Mattel was the only manufacturer to bet on this property back in the eighties, as far as I know.

Never seen either but I always thought Bravestarr was great. I still don't need another crossover while we have multiple unfinished lines though.
@slycooperastroboy51 if anything a stronger brand would encourage more toy crossovers. The people at Mattel would assume that the crossovers brought in new fans through the other brands, and they'd be right.
It comes down to a question of compatibility. MOTU and TMNT work because of how "wacky" TMNT can be and how diverse MOTU is. MOTU and Thundercats work because of how thematic similar they are. MOTU and Transformers could work because of how diverse Transformers story telling is. MOTU and DC have already done crossovers that worked. They could crossover with Marvel but I just don't see that happening.

I saw the poll. They said anything goes, so my choices were suitably odd:
Transformers: Probably the next big 80's franchise they haven't crossed over with and the obvious choice. However, there is a potential problem. To my understanding, only Hasbro and Takara can make transforming Transformers, so a Mattel-made line might not be able to transform and I don't know if Mattel would let Hasbro make the line. Still, He-Manimus Prime and Skeletron would make cool figures.
X-Men: MOTU is more DC, but they said anything goes and X-men is my favorite comic. At any rate, a superhero-themed line might be fun.
Godzilla: It'll never, NEVER happen. But they asked. Admit it, though...Godzilla Armor He-Man would be awesome. Also, He-Mechs.
@smitty-81 okay yeah you have great points. I was gonna say what my idea for a purely solely comic joke crossover was but then I remembered this is a forum about Origins figures and also my idea is so outlandish that you guys wouldn’t be able to comprehend
I think it's getting a little funny how this great IP is becoming a platform for these odd spin-offs. A few turles, I was totally fine with. Kinda silly, but great for people who love both IPs. But now... especially in light of the fact that Mattel still hasn't finished the vintage line. A little annoying, not gonna lie.
On a brighter note, I was able to get a pre-order in for the Fright Zone after all; with a German online store. So yay.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a completist, but for many a load of almost identical silhouette female bucks just won't be interesting. They'll be the new snakes if they aren't peppered thinly through waves or boxsets.
There's been loads of hinting at NA and other than 200X again it's the only path left.
This is one reason why Mattel should have been adding PoP to Origins from the very beginning.
The day they announced She-Ra was coming to Origins, I breathed a sigh of relief because I thought that meant more PoP was going to follow... oh, how wrong I was. Mattel are blockheads.
At this point in the line however, I certainly wouldn't mind a big PoP push. Heck, it can be in its own subline, but Mattel needs to realize they have an abundance of incredible Rebels and Horde members that would be awesome additions to the line!
>>>The Power of the Good and the Way of the Magic!<<<
@sketchyskeletor I still think that Bravestarr makes the most sense as a new crossover line.
They could easily retcon RioBlast's origin as him hailing from New Texas (somewhere in the Tri-Solar System). This makes way for not only awesome Bravestarr characters, but New Adventures ones as well!

I've always said the line should have been Marvel Legends for MOTU, mix in the cartoon stuff with the vintage (they used to do it with Fan Favourites!). People would like happily collected both and they could have stretched out vintage which had obviously been their intention all along.
What it comes down to is they're risk averse and don't understand that dumping the product wherever to get it sold just means most give up.

So I just got back from my local Target with three, technically four, figures that were on dirt cheap clearance that I never planned on getting, but they were under $10 each so why not?
Dragon Blaster Skeletor X2 because less than $7 no joke and I plan to keep one MIB 'cuz why not? Not much of a MIB collector. Have a good amount of Vintage Collection Star Wars figures both MIB and loose, but aside from that the only MOTU figure I also have both loose and MIB is Origins Buzz-Off. Doesn't really matter to me if they're actually worth anything years from now. If they are, they are.
I also got the Sketchbook Series Hordak and Grizzlor 2-pack which NGL I'm kinda split on whether I should open it or not. Yeah it's a store exclusive. A store exclusive on clearance. Who knows how much it could go for in the future? As of now eBay prices are mostly same as normal retail of $25.
Hordak is probably within my top 3 MOTU characters, have about all of his Origins variants (Buzzsaw, CC, Hurricane, his kickass TOG look), but IDK I know through many, many different designs in'84-85 before they settled on a final one, but him as a human is the one they chose to make a figure out of?
Would be invested in this (cool looking) Grizzlor if his original toy-based Origins figure was readily available and not a once Mattel Creations exclusive now $40-50 on eBay. His new normal retail CC figure looks good but I'm picky on which CC figures I get depending if I have their normal Origins figure.
Also I question why start this cool concept "Sketchbook series" Origins sub-line with those two? I know they're making He-Man and Skeletor soon OBVIOUSLY but why didn't it start with them in the first place?

Because it's She-Ra's 40th anniversary...?

Fun fact: When Mattel were conceptualizing a female counterpart for He-Man, one of the many artists, Charles Zembillas, drew up a concept design (I think the first according to how it’s labeled) for She-Ra. While his design wasn’t chosen he would go on to be the original character designer for the original Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot games on the PS1.
The memorable Crash boss characters honestly feel like they could be MOTU villains except they’re more cartoony and less traditionally action figure proportioned.
