@sketchyskeletor What was that about Keclar??
It was basically no plans just yet but somehow, presumably coloured differently or plussed up or something as a Cretins or other exclusive.
FYI, good chance your Bow figure will need something on his back to tip his cloak forward, otherwise the front chest piece sits out like a sore thumb. Had to remove yellow paint from 'Weaver's nose too...
Got my fright zone a few days ago and unboxed it today. The box art and set itself seemed to invoke a similar reaction in my boys (8 and 10) as the original one did for me. Overall a fun set and nostalgia overload. Although the beast is cool, I would have preferred the puppet for playability.
Thank you! I thought the exact same thing 😀 The play set turned out great - but that monster is just... well, unecessary. I would generally want to display it with its head sticking through that cave opening. But since if isn't a sock puppet, it needs substantial space behind the play set to fit. Which means that you suddently cannot put the entire ensemble on a shelf anymore; there is just not enough room! So now I have placed the monster to the side, which defeats the purpose a bit. I am sure some designer was really excited when they came up with the design, and never thought about how people would want to display the Fright Zone (or, in your case, play with it).
Definitely don't sleep on the Thundercats crossover, once you get all the unnecessary crap off them they're great figures even if you only have a passing interest!
I do wish we could ditch the mini comics though because they're utter crap now, and get an extra accessory instead. A clip-on projection for the Sword of Omens. A twirling effect for the other weapons or maybe even build a figure pieces for an 'invisible' Tygra? That would make a lot of sense for a modular line and help sell the peg warmers.
Sigh...I've got crossover fatigue. I was fine with the TOG because there were some really interesting designs, but I'm less enthused about MOTUCats (variants already in friggin' wave 2??) and now these...all while VC and CC are being largely ignored.

Same. I only want the TC lot as Origins versions of that cast. Their He-Man purely to build King Grayskull (though there's a good chance we're getting him in 200x now anyway of course).
I ordered the TF lot because I thought they might sell out even though I only like Skeletor lol. The concept is weak as piss but I'm liking that daft Scareglow/Screamer already!
I basically just pick and choose with them all, but yeah, it's all about dragging out Origins. Something they never would have had to do with normal distribution!
So the Snake Lair is almost funded?! Haven’t paid attention. Color me impressed.
@sketchyskeletor I haven’t seen the TCats comics yet, still waiting for my first figure, but usually my response re: mini comics is You can take them out of my cold, dead hands 😜
@cosmic I'm not impressed - it just tells me that you guys will buy absolutely anything MOTU. Origins will just putter along like a zombie for decades.
@cosmic Honestly they're getting worse! Lol.
@Durendal I'm no conspiracy theorist but the insane backing of both the Lair and Snowcat out of nowhere after so many questioning their ability to actually fund is suspicious as fuck. Like the Lair jumped by around 40% for a dead Lady Slither figure and even when the numbers were rolling in the comments were still 'That price is whack'. Something's rotten in crowdfunding at the moment.
@sketchyskeletor Bingo!!!
And if that number is right, who the hell would order it now and get less for the same amount. Mattel gonna mattel and offer repaint lady to everyone now.
If people like it, cool, im glad they get what they want.but
1. It opens the door for outrageous pricing
2. Drives me nuts, knowing they are bragging how awesome the paint job on this meaningless item to the history of the toy line, while CG and SM are practically naked compared to this imaginext item.
Don't get me wrong guys, I like the Snake Lair (it has that early MOTU flair to it, even if it's really just CG in a snakeskin suit) and I want it, but for the price I just can't will myself to do it. Probably around 600 bucks Canadian all in. That's crazy.
Hey Mattel, some of us have other hobbies too, you know

This, I might have even angrily bought it at £200, but all Mattel are gonna take from it is the wider MOTU community are as weak and vulnerable as they want them to be. And they'll assume that even if a load of them do go up on eBay.
Mind you, that's assuming I'm wrong about how fake those numbers look. I mean getting so close to completion in one swoop and still failing is VERY Mattel.
They put too much into it, with that Snake Lair, paint apps and features etc. I guess they felt, if we’re gonna crowdfund, we gotta go big! Just like that other company. Perhaps it’s not worth it for them, to make a $150 item, e.g.
I think most of us would have been fine with a simpler item that may have cost more than CG, but *not* $300.
Even if this is almost modest compared to Hasbro or Mythic Legions. 🤯
I’m not even arguing calculation / what this thing costs to make / what it’s worth. Just simply, what *I* can spend.
I’m definitely curious how many of these will be resold on the aftermarket for years to come.

My take... Realistically they took a retail set and added cheap for them features and paint apps then charged a few hundred more. And that was after they literally went big with the predecessor. People are probably gonna forget that thing even existed because of how overpriced V2 is.
As you say, few needed it to be fancy, Mattel just wanted that enormous amount of extra money. I've said it before, when Super 7 fit in Mattel's pocket but can put out a beast like the Thundercats Lair, Tank and a massive TMNT van for crowdfund AND retail, nobody should be defending Mattel's thirst for a crowdfund. It's just wilful blindness.
113 backers away and the lair is ours ...
Now you bloody idiots, with me being in the UK is this September or December for my somehow back ordered Fright Zone? (See attachment)
Countless folks around the world got theirs by NOT paying extra for the privilege and panic
That stinks, hope it doesn’t get delayed anymore after that. Im in the us, i will only order stuff off mattel if its an exclusive. I do belong to that stupid club, but once they said it will be available elsewhere, i knew they would bungle it up and it would be in my hands sooner if i ordered with bbts.
@banthafett I have one ordered with a UK seller too and it's listed for 21st of August so we'll see how that plays out too!
My 2 from bbts came last week. It was one of the things my son was hoping they would but in the vintage line. Its an xmas present, so mine is sitting out in garbage along side his along with other motu. Cant put them out in my collection, or he will know that hes getting the same stuff.
@banthafett @sketchyskeletor I buy a lot at a French store (they have great deals), and they had it three weeks ago. I was pretty confused and angry when I realized it. If only I could predict the future (lol).
