Just when you think there is no chance, fate may have found a way.
Kevin Smith was the showrunner for both “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” and “Masters of the Universe: Revolution“, two animated series made for Netflix released in 2021 and 2024 respectively that began as an adult spiritual sequel to the classic 1983 Filmation cartoon “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe“.
While the reviews and fan reaction were extremely positive with the last entry “Masters of the Universe: Revolution“, the sophomore season ended with a story tease of Despara (a version of Force Captain Adora) that till now foreshadowed a She-Ra story that has never been told. But today… we learned they may have found a way.

During a panel at San Diego Comic-Con called “Inside Hall H with Kevin Smith“, Kevin was asked by a young fan “I would like to know if you will continue doing He-Man, and if there’s any plans for She-Ra?”
Here is what Kevin Smith had to say.
KEVIN SMITH: “There…. uh… there is…uh. there…. Yes is a short answer. I was actually supposed to have lunch about it yesterday with some friends of mine who I worked with on the first go round of Masters of the Universe and stuff because there’s a way we can do the story, finish what we started with Masters Universe and and tell the She-Ra story because that’s what we were leading up to is bringing She-Ra into. So uh the short answer is, yes. It’s, it’s coming man but there are some people in this world who would rather I had nothing to do with it. I heard from them online when I made it the first time. They were very vocal and stuff. So, I will step cautiously if I I do it again. But I, I think you, I think you’re going to see that She-Ra story.”
Kevin Smith touched upon it again a little bit later in his panel, when discussing dealing with fan reactions.
KEVIN SMITH: “So hopefully people like what we’re doing and that Masters of the Universe thing… like we did Revelation, Revolution and there’s one more to do and I think we’re going to, I think you’re going to see it. Fingers crossed.”

Despara is such a memorable character from the DC comics … I mean, what wouldn’t I be giving to see her accomplishing these horrible tasks, in motion this time, of course!
Fun fact: I met Grey Delisle at a con last September. Very nice person. Was wearing Azula cosplay because that’s one of her favorite roles. I got her to sign the cardback of my Mattel Creations Origins Despara with a Carmelita Fox quote. From what I can remember about her role as Despara when I asked her, she told me that she knows Melandy Britt doesn’t like her (Despara as a character). I brought it up to the forums a while back and some responded speculating Britt just doesn’t like Adora being portrayed as a villain, which makes sense.
Also really funny thing, it wasn’t until a while after the con that I found out Grey also voiced Evil-Lyn in the Netflix show. Had I known I would’ve asked her about it.
I did meet her co-star from the show, Roger Craig Smith (Trap Jaw) at another con a few months ago, brought that role up to him and he had a casual “yeah I did that" type response. I mean I’m way more invested in the Blue Blur he’s most known for voicing. I just find it funny that I’ve met both an Evil-Lyn and Trap Jaw these ways.
Would love to see some more of Kevin Smith’s story, especially what they had planned for Despara and seeing if they’d incorporate anything else from the 2012 comic run.
The 2012 comics really brought me back into He-Man (nearly 30 years after being a kid watching Filmation and playing with some original toys) with some really talented artists and writers.
Wouldn’t say they were perfect, but they brought new ideas, some fun twists, and had a definitive start and end. 😉Heck, they even made me appreciate the Snake Men
I wish they were more accessible to people that missed them.

Revelation/Revolution (and now the movie) are probably my favorite pieces of MOTU entertainment (from an adult perspective), and I remain disheartened at how much hate was thrown at Kevin Smith over Revelation in particular, to the point where he’s still referencing it. There were obviously choices that not everyone agreed with (didn’t overly bother me), but I don’t see how anyone can’t objectively say that it was done with a deep understanding of the universe and an attempt to move the story forward in a more mature fashion.
I REALLY hope we get an animated Part 3 to this series, although a lot of this reads like a comic, or something of that nature. I will be over the moon though if it’s a new Netflix continuation series and will keep my fingers crossed!

I was actually referring to Skeletor burning Moss-Man alive and He-Man impaling Skeletor with the Power Sword – Teela throwing a tantrum is literally one of her most prominent traits across every medium. So we are suppose to suspend a bit of belief and assume a lot has happened and the big overall epic plot is going to finally happen before the reset. That’s just it… there will always be people who claim the sky is falling and MOTU will die if the next project doesn’t turn out exactly as how they see it in their heads.
Yet, MOTU is so much more than what one person’s vision of the “perfect” MOTU should be. It has grown to such a degree that the fanbase loves MOTU for hundreds, if not thousands of reasons. Some like the sci-fi aspect, some the barbarian, others like the character designs, or the magic, or the morals, or the comradery, armor, vehicles, beasts, etc., etc.
I like how you use the word multifaceted. MOTU is just that, meaning something for everyone!

I’m having a pretty crappy week at work, so to read this on my lunch break has totally lifted my spirits. I’d pretty much given up hope of getting the conclusion on screen though I was pretty sure they could finish it in comics. Revelation was such a therapeutic show for me during the pandemic, and Revolution completely blew me away. My daughter was 4 when she watched Revelation, and she loved it instantly. She was so happy to stay up late at age 5 on the day Revolution launched to binge all the episodes. MOTU and She-ra POP have been something we’ve really bonded over, and we’ll both be over the moon if the third part makes it to screen.
Please!!! Make it happen, we’ve been longing for a sequel. We could dream because they didn’t make the sequel, but didn’t announce the cancellation either.

It feels like there is a pretty decent chance for this to happen.
Despite what some people would want you to believe, both Revelation and Revolution are great shows. Revelation, in fact, is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes (for whatever that’s worth)…
Don’t pay any attention to the folks who were smearing Kevin Smith / Netflix / MotU (many before the show even aired!), they are just a small, but VERY vocal minority.
This is very unexpected, especially how much optimism he has to actually make it. This sounds like more than just a faint possibility, if he makes statements like that.
I think Kevin Smith challenged the trolls a bit with some choices and the speculations he triggered with even some of the trailers, and he underestimated the power of online trolls and the whole cottage online industry of outrage farmers. He and Star Wars, was the beginning of a whole different online culture, sadly.

??? Ok, but what’s this have to do with me? I never got onboard the Kevin Smith hate train. I always understood Revelations was all about how Teela became the new Sorceress. I liked Revelation & Revolution except for killing off characters. Killing Panthor soured me.
I don’t even know what we’re talking about here. I just got a notification in my email that somebody mentioned me here. So I just jumped on here because of the “pervert" comment. I never did anything perverted. I just wanted the characters to look right. That’s all.
I still have my doubts we’ll get it, but if we did, I think they’ll promote it like a new show. They will either give it a new subtitle like Revolution or go as far as to call it something like He-Man & She-Ra: Despara’s Journey. It will still be a sequel, but not require people to see the two previous parts. I hope we finally see He-Man and Teela married in animated form even if they time jump to a point they already are. As for Adora, since the previous 2 parts were supposed to be a sequel to Filmation He-Man, I hope she eventually has a relationship with Sea Hawk, but I don’t think Despara/Adora/She-Ra will have any time for relationships if just another 5 parter or movie.
Depending on if they consider this as a technical sequel and what exactly Netflix’s rights are and when do their sequel option rights end, this could potentially move to Amazon and have a new animation studio. They don’t necessarily need Netflix to tell the Despara story.
I think if it falls through we could still get it in comic book form some day.
I’m actually curious, speaking about the “looks” of the main characters, how they’ll treat He-Man, Teela and a couple more in a potential new series.
After the movie, like someone else said, Mattel heads might see this as more important than “just” a REV / REV sequel, and take more control of how much freedom the designs should take.
I really enjoyed both series but at the end, He-Man’s look was almost a bit TOO far away from how I see him. A mix of CGI He-Man with an 87 cape…? Very curious how his look would have worked just for another more grounded adventure? Often, if a look is a bit too far, you can make it work with the writing and the surrounding.
(Tri-Teela looks more MOTU-esque and works with no problems).
But anyway, back to Mattel head honchos: they may ask Smith & Co to make He-Man, MAA, Teela a liiiiittle bit closer to their classic look, while still honoring all that’s happened. Maybe even just He-Man. Recognizability etc. Perhaps just a tweak. Perhaps full on return to more barbarian with just keeping the hair?
I’m not advocating or asking for it. Just musing and speculating.

I am lifelong OBSESSED with comics, but in this case, I’d really love it to be animated again. It’s fine if they make some creative changes or make it a straight-to-prime feature film instead… just let it be motion please!

The 2012 DC run turned He-Man’s volume up to 11 for the conclusion of the Eternity War and turned him back down to a (still respectable) 8 or 9 by de-accessorizing (subsequent guest appearances in Multiverse and Masterverse) – I thought it was pretty well done!
Revolution final form doesn’t have much to trim away, give him a haircut and lose the cloak and shoulder piece? I wouldn’t want to see the Power Sword reverted…
Don’t think a full reversion is called for, maybe a new look bridging the two is better?
More barbarian but in the new color scheme and keep the hair? I dunno!

Never read the Eternity War except some early issues… What I didn’t like was that He-Man had pants. I do think we might need some stories again where we keep a classic look. I like what they are doing with the new comics.
But yeah for a REV sequel, it should build on what we had at the end of the existing series.

As King He-Man and,later, as New Eternia Battle Armor He-Man, he always looks great when sporting a beard… more wise, experienced, and older – yet still powerful.

Very unexpected news. I assumed this show was dead in the water because Revolution’s ratings weren’t great. I’d guess that Amazon picked it up.

C) The franchise is so multifaceted at this point, I really doubt there is one project that will kill the line. I feel like some fans actually want to see it happen so they can say “I told you so"

That’s just it… there will always be people who claim the sky is falling and MOTU will die if the next project doesn’t turn out exactly as how they see it in their heads.
Yet, MOTU is so much more than what one person’s vision of the “perfect” MOTU should be. It has grown to such a degree that the fanbase loves MOTU for hundreds, if not thousands of reasons. Some like the sci-fi aspect, some the barbarian, others like the character designs, or the magic, or the morals, or the comradery, armor, vehicles, beasts, etc., etc.

I’m having a pretty crappy week at work, so to read this on my lunch break has totally lifted my spirits. I’d pretty much given up hope of getting the conclusion on screen though I was pretty sure they could finish it in comics. Revelation was such a therapeutic show for me during the pandemic, and Revolution completely blew me away. My daughter was 4 when she watched Revelation, and she loved it instantly. She was so happy to stay up late at age 5 on the day Revolution launched to binge all the episodes. MOTU and She-ra POP have been something we’ve really bonded over, and we’ll both be over the moon if the third part makes it to screen.
Please!!! Make it happen, we’ve been longing for a sequel. We could dream because they didn’t make the sequel, but didn’t announce the cancellation either.
Even if they start tomorrow it wouldn’t be available until 2028. It doesn’t matter.
It feels like there is a pretty decent chance for this to happen.
Despite what some people would want you to believe, both Revelation and Revolution are great shows. Revelation, in fact, is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes (for whatever that’s worth)…
Don’t pay any attention to the folks who were smearing Kevin Smith / Netflix / MotU (many before the show even aired!), they are just a small, but VERY vocal minority.
This is very unexpected, especially how much optimism he has to actually make it. This sounds like more than just a faint possibility, if he makes statements like that.
I think Kevin Smith challenged the trolls a bit with some choices and the speculations he triggered with even some of the trailers, and he underestimated the power of online trolls and the whole cottage online industry of outrage farmers. He and Star Wars, was the beginning of a whole different online culture, sadly.
None of the MOTU media is always popular with everyone. I love NA!
The tsunami of hate was absolutely overblown.
It is the saga that made me love Prince Adam, and Orko! It had some very nostalgic and whistful moments.
Nothing is perfect.
The ending was kinda satisfying if it weren’t for that Despara teaser… I absolutely want to see her now.
I really hope this isn’t “just” a comic. (I love comics, but this needs to be a show).

??? Ok, but what’s this have to do with me? I never got onboard the Kevin Smith hate train. I always understood Revelations was all about how Teela became the new Sorceress. I liked Revelation & Revolution except for killing off characters. Killing Panthor soured me.

I still have my doubts we’ll get it, but if we did, I think they’ll promote it like a new show. They will either give it a new subtitle like Revolution or go as far as to call it something like He-Man & She-Ra: Despara’s Journey. It will still be a sequel, but not require people to see the two previous parts. I hope we finally see He-Man and Teela married in animated form even if they time jump to a point they already are. As for Adora, since the previous 2 parts were supposed to be a sequel to Filmation He-Man, I hope she eventually has a relationship with Sea Hawk, but I don’t think Despara/Adora/She-Ra will have any time for relationships if just another 5 parter or movie.
Depending on if they consider this as a technical sequel and what exactly Netflix’s rights are and when do their sequel option rights end, this could potentially move to Amazon and have a new animation studio. They don’t necessarily need Netflix to tell the Despara story.
I think if it falls through we could still get it in comic book form some day.
I’m actually curious, speaking about the “looks” of the main characters, how they’ll treat He-Man, Teela and a couple more in a potential new series.
After the movie, like someone else said, Mattel heads might see this as more important than “just” a REV / REV sequel, and take more control of how much freedom the designs should take.
I really enjoyed both series but at the end, He-Man’s look was almost a bit TOO far away from how I see him. A mix of CGI He-Man with an 87 cape…? Very curious how his look would have worked just for another more grounded adventure? Often, if a look is a bit too far, you can make it work with the writing and the surrounding.
(Tri-Teela looks more MOTU-esque and works with no problems).
But anyway, back to Mattel head honchos: they may ask Smith & Co to make He-Man, MAA, Teela a liiiiittle bit closer to their classic look, while still honoring all that’s happened. Maybe even just He-Man. Recognizability etc. Perhaps just a tweak. Perhaps full on return to more barbarian with just keeping the hair?
I’m not advocating or asking for it. Just musing and speculating.

I am lifelong OBSESSED with comics, but in this case, I’d really love it to be animated again. It’s fine if they make some creative changes or make it a straight-to-prime feature film instead… just let it be motion please!

The 2012 DC run turned He-Man’s volume up to 11 for the conclusion of the Eternity War and turned him back down to a (still respectable) 8 or 9 by de-accessorizing (subsequent guest appearances in Multiverse and Masterverse) – I thought it was pretty well done!
Revolution final form doesn’t have much to trim away, give him a haircut and lose the cloak and shoulder piece? I wouldn’t want to see the Power Sword reverted…
Don’t think a full reversion is called for, maybe a new look bridging the two is better?

Never read the Eternity War except some early issues… What I didn’t like was that He-Man had pants. I do think we might need some stories again where we keep a classic look. I like what they are doing with the new comics.
But yeah for a REV sequel, it should build on what we had at the end of the existing series.

As King He-Man and,later, as New Eternia Battle Armor He-Man, he always looks great when sporting a beard… more wise, experienced, and older – yet still powerful.
Definitely keeping my fingers crossed for this one. While I’m not holding my breath, hopefully we hear some good news sooner than later.
