Writer Mackenzi Lee had to take a Masters of the Universe “crash course in the campiest, most joyful franchise” to write TEELA: DAUGHTER OF ETERNOS

Back in December, HE-MANIA.COM broke the news that a new original “Masters of the Universe” novel was on the way by author Mackenzi Lee.

Revealed last week to be a young adult novel titled “Teela: Daughter of Eternos“, Mackenzi took to social media recently to talk about the book and the IP (confessing it was something she was not familiar with.) Check it out:

MACKENZI LEE: "So excited to finally announce the silliest, most fun project I’ve ever worked on!

Last year, I got an email from @mattel asking if I’d be interested in writing an original novel to go with their new Masters of the Universe film, to which I replied “I don’t know what that is.” What followed was a crash course in the campiest, most joyful franchise that felt like an injection of bright, happy nostalgia over the course of a hard personal year.

I’m so excited to play a small part in this expansive world that means so much to so many people, and so proud of the chance I had to expand Teela’s lore. She’s a warrior my ten year old self would have been obsessed with—and, honestly, my thirty five year old self is pretty delighted by her too.

Last photo - I wrote most of this book during two intense weeks at the Tyrone Guthrie center in rural Ireland. The first day of my residency, I found—in the tiniest grocery store in the tiniest Irish town—one single toy for sale: a Teela action figure. If that isn’t a sign, I don’t know what is."

  1. I really wish people wouldn’t apply the modern take on camp to something that wasn’t when it started and got big. MOTU wasn’t camp in it’s heyday, very few cartoons were!
In today’s world just about everything is labelled by and for clout chasers online – it’s why words like epic, iconic and anything around those truly evil people from WW2 have lost almost all relevance. In this case, how can you have a nostalgia injection for something you had to Wiki?
Sorry, I just really dislike old anything getting commandeered by people who don’t understand the fundamentals of how it began. (That’s not to say you can’t accidentally do a good job but that’s really rare)
