“THEY PROBABLY BURNED IT” Actor Noah Centineo opens up about being under contract to play He-Man (before Nicholas) and screen testing the iconic loincloth!

Before actor Nicholas Galitzine was cast as He-Man for Amazon MGM Studios (and before Kyle Allen was cast as He-Man over at Netflix), actor Noah Centineo won the role, signed to play the most powerful man in the universe for Sony in 2019.

But when Sony officially parted ways with Mattel and a new “Masters of the Universe” movie a few years later when they allowed their rights to make a He-Man movie lapse, Noah’s deal expired with it.

Well now, speaking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Noah Centineo finally opened up about being under contract to play He-Man (and tevealed that he test screened the iconic loincloth!)

Josh: You must have gone up for other superhero things.

NOAH: For a for a moment there was was I guess we can talk about this. Was going to do He-Man.

Josh: Of course.

NOAH: There was He-Man before Black Adam. Um, and that didn’t, that didn’t

Josh: So, you were attached to that for a for a while. Like that was like at least a year or two I feel like you were going to be the guy. Different directors.

NOAH: We were we were pretty close, dude. Uh I went through the test process. We screen tested loincloth and stuff, all of it.

Josh: Somewhere that footage is out there.

NOAH: I’m sure it is somewhere. I don’t know where it is. Sony has it. Um, maybe they they probably burned it. If I were them I would. Somehow, anyway, I signed the contract.

Josh: But is that a strange thing? Like to you know, you go through all that, you imagine a life like I’m going to do three He-Man movies.

NOAH: Yeah, they’re like showing us, you know, previs. They’re showing us kind of the production design, the world building.

At the time it was the Nee brothers that were going to do it. Um shout out Nee brothers. Um And uh and we got pretty close. And then for some reason or another it just, it pushed and then pushed and then I think they just wanted to keep tweaking and tweaking it and the contract ran out, you know.

Um, and we moved on and then I think, I think Netflix acquired it for a little bit and then Amazon acquired it and they found Nick and God, dude, Nick. I mean, it’s so difficult. It’s so difficult to step into a role like that, dude. I mean, that’s not an easy movie to make at all. And like I watched it. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. And Nick is incredible.

Josh: He leaned in. He was good.

NOAH: How else do you do it? Like people don’t understand how hard it is to do camp wholeheartedly. And you know, it’s like if the movie works, the movie doesn’t work, often times especially in that situation, I don’t blame him for that.

Josh: 100%

NOAH: I loved what he was doing and what he was trying to do.

Josh: Nice.

While many were disappointed with Noah’s departure at the time, most fans seem to agree that Nicholas Galitzine was ultimately the best casting choice for the role (and pleased the development of the “Masters of the Universe” Movie worked out like it did.)
