During today’s Mattel Creations: Revealed Event…

…new artist collaboration Origins figures were revealed: MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE x JAMES JEAN. Check it out:
MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE X JAMES JEAN
Your favorite hero, your favorite villain, and their battle-ready beasts have undergone a surreal and organic transformation. As imagined by contemporary artist James Jean, the epic clash between good and evil rises to mythic proportions.
A Taiwanese-born artist raised in New Jersey and now living in LA, James Jean depicts detailed cosmological worlds filled with allegorical and contemporary imagery. As he experiments with such different styles and art historical genres, Jean diminishes the boundary between new and old, and between Eastern and Western artmaking. Exploring themes of identity and transformation with profound insight, Jean’s art resonates on both personal and universal levels.

We’ll see you next time.

I keep telling myself (and my wife lol), no more spin-offs and repaints, stick to the core line and save money for other hobbies….and then they release something like this and I just has to have it. I know I would just hate myself and regret it forever if this unique piece wasn’t in my collection (screw you mutated merman you super cool looking figure that I refuse to get because of the ridiculous mark up??!!)
Wait for it to go on clearance.
Nothing says powerful and manly more than a floral design
How to murder a franchise!
It’s lovely and all, but I just can’t understand why Mattel would put the Masterverse lines on hold, yet release something like this. I want to collect MOTU figures…you know! Where are the rest of the original line in NE? Snake Men? PoP? NA? Nah, can’t do that! That’s been put on hold. Here, have a Pink Lace Panties He-Man instead.
Right on. The most sense I heard all day.
I think they’re pretty cool for an artist/MOTU collab. Just the right mix of artistry and trippiness for me!
If they weren’t so pricey, I’d probably get sets to display loose and MIB.
@dedset13 I like them too. They are too pricey for me but they very pretty to look at.
James Jean is the GOAT and these are spectacular. Of course he plays with expectations by making the manly He-Man into a floral hero… but c’mon these look fabulous.
Stuff like this was probably planned a long time and just happen
To come out now in movie year. It doesn’t matter. JJ has his many, many fans in the illustration and art community. They will get it.
It’s not necessarily for regular fans, but actually, as I see from your reactions, and my own, some will actually like this! Because it looks gorgeous Just as art. And then it’s also an action figure.
This usually would be beyond my price point. Ugh…
I also wonder how quick / if this will sell out. Totally unpredictable. But don’t underestimate his fan base, and art community in general…
Is this meant to be anything but a big “screw you," to me, from Mattel? What is more important: That a certain group of adult males have an icon in a children’s franchise, or that male children have a strength and goodness icon in a children’s franchise? I wonder, MATTEL.
Skeletor looks kinda badass; He-Man looks like She-Ra got a cheeky moment and swapped swords.
