“I was okay with it.” Actress CAMILA MENDES explains why she is not wearing the more revealing classic TEELA Costume

There is lots of exciting information to report on the new “Masters of the Universe” Movie thanks to the April 2026 Edition of EMPIRE Magazine (out now).

We already reported that the film’s production designer Guy Hendrix Dyas revealed that having an aesthetic close to the 1983 Filmation Cartoon “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” was actually the movie’s mission. So that begs the question, why the changes to Teela’s costume?

He man fabulous

While we surmised the very revealing Teela cartoon costume would not be practical in a live-action film especially with contemporary frenetic action scenes, actress Camila Mendes revealed she would have been okay with it… but it was a production choice not to.

"I was okay with it, but they decided that it would be kind of silly to have this warrior woman trotting around in a swimsuit among all these big, burly men.”

Empire Magazine’s “Masters Of The Universe” issue is on newsstands now.

We’ll see you next time!

  1. The movie costume has grown on me. Sure, I’d love to see a more cartoon or action figure accurate verson of the character, but as long as he wears the tiara for part of the movie I think I’ll be satisfied. The bobbed white hair poking out of Evil-Lyn’s headdress bothers me more than Teela.

  2. I rather her show leg just like the accurate He-Man costume but I’m happy she wasn’t the one who said no. I remember Camila said on Instagram that for research she was watching the cartoon. She had my respect then and she had my full respect now. I hope she turns out to be a wonderful Teela.

  3. She still looks great and they tried to make the costume she has in the proper colortheme regardless of the issued restrictions.

“production choice" “would be silly" /QUOTEThis is dumb. Telling that to their actors and the rest of the world in that context belittles them and insults their intelligence. They have to know how the guys in the movies look and what they wear (or rather how much they don’t wear). These types of behind the scenes people are a danger to such movies; they obviously neither got nor where interested to get the source material. Fire them; place them unter a restraining order to never get close to such a property ever again.
