Yesterday we reported on the exclusive news that there were test screening occurring in New Jersey and California for the new “Masters of the Universe” movie.

We also reported later that The John Campea Show corroborated that a rough cut was being screened, because he had a source that said the new He-Man movie was “amazing“. (John Campea went on to mention today that he heard the new “Masters of the Universe” movie was director Travis Knight’s best film yet.)

Now Mr H Reviews has entered the mix, not only to corroborate the positive response that John Campea heard, but offered more information from his own source regarding the film’s comedic elements, the movie’s character designs, Jared Leto as Skeletor and more!

Check it out:
On the source of this information :
"My source was a mega fan. A mega fan from being a child and they were pretty much looking forward to seeing this movie. They were very much looking forward to what Travis Knight could deliver."
On the comedy in the “Masters of the Universe”:
"-they just said categorially the movie is pretty entertaining but it leans very heavy into the comedy. So I guess in the atmosphere in everything being dark and dour, that might be a shock to some people. But it's very entertaining. Very comedic. They lean very heavy into the comedy factor, which I quite like the sound of that. I think that sounds pretty cool to be fair. It leans very heavy into comedy. There is a lot of humor in this movie resulting in the tone feeling much lighter than expected."
[Note the described tone sounds very similiar to the 1983 Filmation Classic Cartoon “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe“.]

On the emotion in “Masters of the Universe”:
"The movie does have plenty of heart."
On the film’s action:
"There is a lot of action in this movie. Not only that. There is very impressive fight choreography apparently." "The sword choreography is fantastic."
On the Movie’s Designs (Character and More):
"Character designs? Very faithful to the toys. Very faithful to the toys, right down to the weapons and the vehicles" "It feels like a true cinematic translation of the original designs, from the costumes to the sets"
On Prince Adam being on Earth:
"There is a satisfying reason why (Adam) is on Earth. What I know of it, it's not a massively contrived reason for him being on Earth." "There are some very comedic elements about his earthly lifestyle."
On Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man:
"Nicholas Galitzine looks great as He-Man and Adam, apparently, so that's good obviously"
On Jared Leto as Skeletor:
"Apparently Jared Leto is great as Skeletor. My source said that he's basically channeling a Tim Curry. Almost a cross between Frank-N-Furter from Rocky Horror (Picture Show) and Darkness from Legend" "Practical effects? His face is CGI, so I will reveal that, but apparently it's really good"

On references to Highlander:
"There's also a few references to the movie Highlander, apparently, including an action sequence set to Queen's "Princes of the Universe".
[Note this may simply be a temporary soundtrack and not intended to be a permanent inclusion to the film.]
On the film’s Easter Eggs:
"There's ton of easter eggs for fans including references to internet memes."
On the entire audience’s reaction to “Masters of the Universe:
"Basically my source really enjoyed the film. Judging by the reception of everyone else, so this is important, it was received like really positively. Pretty much everyone at the screening liked it."
It's basically potential to be a massive hit. The crowd seemed to love it."
"It felt like it won people over."
Wow!
Again, while of course it is still early yet, it is very encouraging to hear such positivity about this new He-Man film from different sources!

We’ll see you next time!

Filmation He-Man: The Movie and I’m here for it! Sounds like a blast!! I was thinking the Queen track might of been a temp but given the track used and the tone of the film its likely in the finished film, possible with 4 NON Blondes maybe..lol
Again. We desperately need that trailer to see SOMETHING. ANYTHING!!
I LOVE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW!! THIS SOUNDS PERFECT!!
It was an amazing creative decision in 1983 to veer from typical fashion and adopt an eccentric voice & attitude for your main villian in the way Alan Oppenheimer performed Skeletor (which was even a far departure from the 1982 Filmation commercial) so I am happy they are (seemingly) embracing an eccentric Skeletor and not going for another Frank Langella performance (which I still love, but I’m ready for something more faithful.🙂)
I found a weird playlist for the new movie on Spotify. I thought it was a fan thing, it was in Spanish. I can’t find it anymore, but it had princess of the universe on it! And youth gone wild!
There is nothing negative here at all. Comedy should be in MOTU. Skeletor as a mix of FranknFurter and Darkness sounds perfect. I am all aboard the hype train.
Good morning. Is this the best coffee get your day started reading material or what? I’m pumped for my day.
The part where it says its being very faithful to the toys down to the weapons and the vehicles is the best part. That is all fans want.
WHAT DID I SAY?
WHAT
DID
I
SAY???????
TRUST IN TRAVIS KNIGHT AND HE WILL DELIVER!!!!!!!!
MIC DROP!!!!!
@bonezone I read this like you were in a wrestling ring 🤣
Read it like he is Maximus. It’s even better.🤣
Honest question, other than normally making fun of you. Why the dick riding? What has this nepo baby ever done to ride him like this? Hes made 2 movies, one is where the stop motion is the star (you know the company his weird ass dad pushed a legend out so his weird ass chilly tee kid could have something, since he wasn’t talented to do it on his own) and the first 5 minutes of a crappy transformers movie was only good because it was something Bay refused to do, then it turned into typical Bay crap.
So what has this gooner truly done to deserve such a nice ride from you?
@banthafett YOU’LL SEE
See what? That you totally ignored to answer why the dick riding of someone who has no resume to have that dick to be rode this hard. Other than being the goof himself. Or just a plant.
Its one thing to be excited and want the movie to be good. But its another, to mention Chilly Tee all the time for no reason.
I’m relieved to hear they didn’t go all grimdark. That would have been a huge mistake.
The “humor” aspect, while certainly welcomed, is probably being overplayed just a bit.
Ugh, no references to internet memes please. I’m tired of the 4 nonblondes thing.
Mega Jay interviewed someone who attended the screening. I’m sure AJ is doing a story for it but the interview gives so many great info despite not going into too much detail. Again it’s compared to Thor: Ragnarok and the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie but with a ton of heart. Some of the audience were audibly tearing up.
Its a great interview and I’ll wait for AJs thread to say more.
With all due respect, a Skeletor taking inspiration from Frank-n-furter is imho out of character. And too much goofiness… some humour is good, surely but I really hope the movie won’t lean into too much goofiness. Even taking in consideration the ’80s Filmation series.
@alteredquantum It should have goofy moments here and there, but not completely revel in it. Word of mouth is saying it’s got a Thor: Ragnarok vibe, which is good because that film beautifully straddles that line. What we want to avoid is a Thor: Love and Thunder situation where they dialed the silliness up to 11 under the assumption that “more is better", but the film really suffered because of it.
@durendal I really hope you are right. A lite tone of the movie can fit the overall atmosphere and it is for me acceptable, but a circus of silly characters and scenes just for the sake of it is totally inappropriate. Imho.
