It appears the new upcoming “Masters of the Universe” Animated Series that was billed as a “prequel” was incorrect. Read on for details.
Back on September 3rd, we broke the news that a new “Animated Prequel Series” was on the way, per Toy World Magazine and Mattel.

Toy World Magazine partners with Mattel every year to produce a supplement to their magazine that brings their readers the latest news on Mattel’s hottest brands (and this year “Masters of the Universe” was on the top of the list, thanks to the upcoming big-budget movie.)

Among Mattel’s playbook to promote the movie (including movie themed action figures and playsets, art books, illustrated origin stories and fashion) they listed a brand new “animated prequel series“. This news created a lot of excitement.

Then, several hours after our report, Toy World and Mattel removed the mention of the “prequel animated series” from their supplement. We figured the info was pulled because this news was either released too early… or perhaps incorrect. Apparently, it turned out to be a little bit of both.

We received information from a well placed source that promoting this as an animated “prequel” series was an error made by the marketing team over at Mattel that handles the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East and Africa).

Apparently the word “prequel” never should have applied to this animated series and it will not be directly associated with the movie.

What this animated series will seemingly be is less like a television series and more like what was mentioned in the latter portion of Mattel’s playbook, i.e. “character shorts” that we assume will air on YouTube and Social Media (to likely get new fans acclimated to the world of Masters of the Universe.)

So while this news turned out to be less exciting than first anticipated, we are glad to know this correction now… versus letting anticipation build for a series that will never come.
We’ll see you next time.

I was looking forward to a prequel serious. I hate this.
I don’t personally mind y’all. What I mind is no sequel to Revolution. That burns my britches.😆
Hmmm… As it is currently worded, well…
Well what?
@asterstar It’s a similar analysis to what @cosmic just resumed. It may be drastically different from what we expected: a classic cartoon series, which it doesn’t seem to end up being. What a bummer for me.
Mattel screwed the wording up. Shocker. This is the same company that sent Wicked doll owners to a x-rated site.
@caliban lmao
I’m fine either way.
Yeah I mean all of this is a bit early still, too early to celebrate, when they are “planning” to do stuff… various stuff may not happen or change.
Unfortunately, the Character Shorts could be akin to social media posts with character bios, or like little “commercials” for different t characters. It may not be very exciting at all, comparatively.
Of course it’s fun to have anything MOTU related on any screen, but it may not be a cartoon series.
Maybe that will come after the movie, if it has some success, to keep the ball rolling…
Animated series are a LOT of effort, and a lot of $$.
If they’re doing a ton of stuff now, they must have hope.
Bit of a bummer but I assumed if it was a prequel series it was going to be a limited mini series at that anyway.
We should know more and for certain at BLE regardless.
All I want is a good movie. None of this other stuff matters to me if it’s bad. It’s just fluff.
This is a let down.
Every goddamn picture of this jackass with his mouth open!
