I've always been in the middle of this episode, I don't think it's bad, but it's definitely not one of the classics. For me personally a lot of it is Man-E-Faces - I don't dislike him, he just wasn't one of my favorite figures/nor a character I think of first when I think of MOTU. Everyone has their gimmick, but his feels more "one-note." He's not the warrior you think of bringing into battle with you like Roboto, Ram-Man, Fisto, etc... Fortunately the great Paul Dini wrote this one, and his scripts are always entertaining with fun chacterizations and dialogue.
This is also one of those weird continuity episodes - much like they do in "Battlecat", why wouldn't a main character have been brought up to speed over a major event when they were absent earlier? Also, it's weird to see the Sorceress appearing away from Grayskull, which goes against the "rules." I like it though.
Finally, one bit has always bugged me - When He-Man, Battlecat, Teela, and Orko confront Man-E-Faces he says it's three against one, yet all four have said something to him prior to him saying that - is that a writing error or an insult to one of them, most likely Orko or Battlecat?
@battlecat327 There are a dozen episodes were Battle Cat is treated more like a horse than an individual and I never liked it. It also bothered me when He-Man says only three others share this secret. Our friends the Sorceress, Man-At-Arms and Orko. The intro should have included Cringer too. It always bothered me.
This episode is fun. It has the Collector ship which is my favorite ship. The Widgets are back and at just the right amount. Man-E-Faces is great. I love how his abilities are tied to his faces like super strength when he switches to a monster. It suits him better than disguises. Finally there is Teela's staff. I remembered her laser pistol but I didn't remember her using a staff. I wonder if Teela uses it in any other episodes. I hope so. Overall it's a great episode.
One of my favorites that I finally actually have a good amount to say about. I'm betting it'll stay within my top 10 by the time this Watch-A-Thon is over.
Love Man-E probably one of my favorite Heroic Warriors but I know he only appears once in the show afterwards, which is a real huge shame. His ability to turn his face into anyone's I love that the recent Cartoon Collection figure incorporated.
Glad we're at the point of the show where we're finally seeing more recurring character heroic warriors that aren't Ram Man or Stratos.
Like the widgets. Their appearance is a plus.
I know Beastie has the power to manipulate animals, but how does that work with Man-E's monster 1/3? I mean the guy is a cyborg headed human eh writers knew kids wouldn't be questioning this stuff for another 30-40 years.
HOLD UP HOW IS SORCERESS IN HER HUMAN FORM OUT OF THE CASTLE!?
Only real gripe is I wish they only went a tiny bit more into Man-E's past. At least give him a real name that we know wouldn't be his canonical one, Perkaedo because many cartoon/other media inconsistencies for big franchises back then that I am definitely 100% not learning by reading off of Wiki Grayskull rn
Instead Orko pulled a 32 years prior Fan4stic ending on him.
Long sidenote: The first Transformers show I watched as a kid and had a phase with (was 6-7 at the time but latter started my hardcore TF collecting at 16, haven't stopped since), Transformers Animated had a version of Blitzwing in it's main Decepticon cast that was no doubt a whole reference to Man-E. Makes sense since Blitzy is a triple changer. Except unlike Man-E, his uncontrollable faces gave him a funny triple split personality. Either Icy yet reserved, Hotheaded Arnie impression or random jack-o-lantern face nutjob.
He was even funnier always being paired by the undying loyal-to-Megatron Lugnut. Yeah Soundwave and Shockwave also have undying Megatron loyalty (the latter even clashes with Lug near the end of the show), but Lugnut acts like an extremely obsessed fanboy. Best non-G1 original Decepticon who needs to be in more new TF media. Even a live-action film appearance where he does about nothing and is quickly killed off would satisfy me enough.
'kay enough rambling about a different show.

You are not the only one who took issue with that mate. It was fixed in Masters of the Universe: Revelation.

3 stars. Nice to see man-e-faces but he has always been a character no one seems to know what to do with or what to make his powers be. Animation was also rough in this episode. Not bad but could have been better.
