We have the Power!
If you were introducing someone to He-Man, I think this may be the episode to start them with, it hits so many of the story beats we tend to think of: King Randor disappointed in Adam, Teela disobeying Man-at-Arms, Zoar summoning He-Man and Battlecat to Grayskull to give them their assignment, Skeletor has a plot to take over Eternia, etc....
While I do think the overall plot is a little light, given that it's Filmation and the censors they have I like that they devoted a decent amount of time showing off He-Man and Battlecat's strength taking on an army of robots without having to hold back. I'm also a sucker for the He-Man theme, which this episode makes great use of multiple times.
I have to say too it's nice to have a Beastman and Trap-Jaw pairing this early in the series as they come across as so much more competent. By the time you see these two together in Season 2 forward, you're constantly wondering why Skeletor would even keep them around given the level of incompetence they start to display.
@battlecat327 That is the only thing I am not looking forward to is when Beast Man and Mer-Man become less competent. Maybe it's not as bad as I remember. I do remember Webstor and Kobra Khan standing up for themselves and we still have Evil-Lyn so it's not all bad.
This is a very good episode. I like how we are shown that even though Teela is headstrong she is like minded compared to Duncan. He did a good job raising her. The only thing I would have liked is to see Trap Jaw have a chance to build his army. Can you imagine if there were one hundred Serpentoids attacking Castle Grayskull? The animators would have gotten a headache but that would have been an amazing visual.
@samuel I love the pairing of Kobra Khan and Webstor, I really wish we got more appearances of the S2 and S3 Evil and Heroic Warriors but for those two they really made it count when they showed up. Filmation's portrayal of Kobra Khan remains my favorite iteration of the character, to this day I don't like it when he's portrayed as a Snake Man over an Evil Warrior.
A good solid episode. I don't know why Skeletor wants Beast Man to lead the army. They are not beasts. How about Tri-Klops bonehead?
I'm gonna be real, this was an extremely average episode for me
Not one of the best, not one of the worst. Just meh. Got nothing much to say.
Except it probably has my favorite witty He-Man remark of the show thus far
"This reminds me of a game my mother told me about. It was called bowling. Strike!"
