@smitty-81 it’s been a real good while since I’ve seen She-Ra 2018, since it ended in fact need to rewatch it but yeah that honestly seems really hypocritical on the showrunners part.
I may have said this before but it was truly a complete fluke that this Netflix cartoon not called Big Mouth actually got more than two seasons and actually rapped up the way the showrunners intended (or maybe mostly? Idk.)
NGL if Dreamworks and Mattel were to work something out, how about a sequel mini-series entitled “HE-MAN: PRINCE OF POWER”? Basically a role reversal of the Filmation series. He-Man has his standard story and posse but the series starts with Adora and Swiftwind coming to Eternia and Adora finding her long lost brother if y’all get the picture.
@smitty-81 Don’t really see a reason to “hate” it for that, I find there is room for both in the storyline. Finding the power in yourself to open to that kiss, etc
For me there was enough charm, love, humor but also difficult themes and characters… To be very entertained.
Of course it’s a whole different take compared to Filmation. Which I also love. Probably more so. I can see if someone is really attached to that, that they wouldn’t like the new, very different design, changes to characters, different story, etc
What I did hate was the ensuing culture war
I also don’t really want to open that can of worms here. 😅
@cosmic i really don't think anything about Adora's and Catra's relationship felt romantic. They seemed more like sisters and/ or comrades in arms.
So in addition to the message being diluted by the kiss, the kiss didn't really feel earned either.

. In regards to Despara, she told me Melandy Britt doesn't like her for some reason I don't know why. This may be news to the fandom. I know Britt doesn't like She-Ra 2018 for some reason, but knowing this, is she like against ANYONE new voicing any version of She-Ra or something?
Britt has spoken positively about the general interest that the Netflix reboot has brought to the vintage series. I haven't heard her say anything else about it.
Keep in mind, Melendy and John Erwin did *not* get the kind of acclaim and job security other "classic voice actors" got in the years to follow. She and John showed up at Filmation, did the work, got paid and that was that. Mattel reaped all the rewards, to the tune of billions. In the 80s.
So if Melendy still would like to get paid to work on her most iconic character, I can't blame her for that. Had Mattel kept the brands alive better in the 90s and 00s and honored the talent that helped establish it, she may have had a very different career.
Now, thankfully, Mattel is paying some attention...but keep in mind, they didn't even send her any toys OR involve her in the animated "commercials" they made. Fans online had to cause a stir to get them to realize their massive faux-pas. So even now, with her convention appearances and social media, she's being overlooked by the big wigs.
As far as Despara is concerned, did you read the comic where she first appears? She talks about murdering children. Yes, it's Adora under Weaver's spell, but that was an extremely dark place to take the character, and very much going against the kind of positivity that Lou went out of his way to bring to the shows. Adora was a leader in the cartoon, not a traumatized former child murderer. Mattel went for graphic shock value there to appeal to adults and the modern market, I suppose, and I'm glad Melendy wasn't in favor of it. She obviously holds the character dear to her heart and feels protective enough not to want her to be dragged through the mud in that kind of way.
It's not an invalid interpretation, mind you, but a needlessly dark one. Remember, Lou didn't want He-Man or She-Ra to punch people in their faces or hack them to bits with their swords. He made sure they spoke to children in positive ways. He put moral content into the stories. Heck, these characters didn't even hurt plants if it could be avoided!
So her lack of enjoyment there is valid, and frankly, I share it. If people can be upset when Batman is portrayed as a casual killer, so too can we be displeased with the same applying to She-Ra.

Anyone else feel like with the potential blockbuster success of the movie next year, Mattel is REALLY gonna try and play catch-up with brands like Transformers and TMNT? Basically making up for the good chunks of lost time (1991-2001 then 2005-with the exception of Classics and comics 2017 I'm estimating?) with tons of content for different demographics? I mean as long as there's at the minimum of a decent amount of quality put into them, us fans will basically be feasting like never before.

I know I sound like a broken record in these forums for bringing this dynamic up but Entrapdak was honestly the hidden MVP couple of the show. A sweet, quirky, very talkative hyperactive positive ASD representation scientist with cool hair and an evil cyborg clone alien overlord bent on complete domination? Sign me the hell up!
He goes through his redemption not by Entrapta constantly pleading with him like any girl in her scenario, but rather him coming to his own terms because of his conversations with her. His imperfections are what make him perfect.
Hordak is probably my favorite MOTU character and not just because of '18. Love him in Filmation as basically slightly less campy and slightly more threatening Skeletor. 200x I liked what little they did with him before the show was cut short except remove the technological aspect of him. Should rewatch Revolution I forget how he was characterized there aside from being evil.
Real talk: From what I remember of She-Ra 2018, despite being the main antagonist of the show's first half, I rarely remember any moments of him ACTUALLY fighting or kicking ass which for a cyborg villain like him is honestly pretty disappointing.
If anything if I were to personally write a MOTU series, I would make him HATE Horde Prime with a burning passion for abandoning him with his main goal/ambition after conquering Etheria and maybe Eternia, building a humongous army almost big enough to equally match his "father's" then call him to declare planetary Horde war.
It seems like the Dragstor box art was just teased at the Mattel Creations booth at Oz Comic Con in Sydney this past weekend (Instagram).

Nailed it. That was a relationship done right.

@smitty-81 Oh , I don’t know, these screenplay words being thrown around these days, Not Earned, etc I respect you can phrase your criticisms in objective terms, but I didn’t miss anything when I watched it. A lot of watchers were happy about it, besides the naysayers. It was a surprise kinda, but friendships turn into love all the time. Something was building up there. It was ballsy and new. And contemporary. 😊

They only did it for one of two reasons.
1) it was trendy
2) they don't understand that two people can be very close friends and it not be romantic.

1. Different. Groundbreaking. Good for our times.
2. Adora had wonderful regular friendships with Bow and Glimmer. You just don’t like romance 😜
By the by, regarding Swiftwind’s “wrong” back legs– I saw an in-hand review on German fan-site Planet Eternia where they said the legs can be twisted into the right position. You can turn all lower parts 360 degrees, so he said it looks right when u do that, and it’s no problem.
So just a posing error, rather than an assembly error, basically? I’m glad to hear it.
Got my three!
@admin I don’t know why they think it’s good to do it at the same time… Maybe there are studies for it that people like to dive head first into financial doom 😏
She-Ra / Swift are $74 including taxes and shipping … that’s basically above my threshold. 😬 It’s always to the seller’s advantage to show prices without tax (or shipping).
Good for them I had made up my mind beforehand to get one. Getting two would have been way too much for me, sadly.
I heard through German Creations site, the set is 76 EUROS, plus shipping. 84 Euros!
Ouff. That’s $98.61, AND the salaries are lower.

That is good news!
I got mine!
After identifying that dogs walk on four legs I got mine. Oddly and adorably the dogs were wearing hats.

Thankfully, I'm not the targeted customer for this one (She-Ra / Swiftwind), but I sympathize with those already gritting their teeth for the occasion.
@cosmic I think I saw a hatted crab too.
