@sketchyskeletor In this case, I think we're pretty much in the same boat: Fourteen years of collecting MOTU (mostly MOTUC), vehicles, mounts, SM & CG playsets. FZ should arrive around the same time as you, as we're both European collectors. These days, I'm slowly replacing my Classics figures with the new Masterverse generation, but it's a delicate task. I don't want to be too impulsive and regret some decisions later. Add to that the fact that I'm trying to mix several other very tempting franchises with my own vision, and it's absolute chaos for my budget and shelves.
On top of that many reckon Mattel merely want to charge the customer for their own initial failure with Lair 1.0 and the cost of retooling elements of it for 2.0.
You I didn't even think of that but yeah...Mattel has sunk a lot of money into 2 prototypes at this point, and the campaigns, etc, so they could very well be passing the buck on to the consumer at this point.
Mostly, I'm still annoyed that they dangled the carrot of a Filmation Fright Zone or a Filmation Crawler vehicle when - clearly - their devotion to and enthusiasm for the Filmation Cartoon Collection is waning.
Like...thanks a bunch. Been waiting decades for Filmation stuff, but sure...tease me with something I'll never have. That's nice.
We knew they would make the vintage Fright Zone and Eternia - the nostalgia factor is huge for both those sets - but it's this other stuff that we're crossing our fingers and toes for.
Snake Lair should have been an easy slam dunk. Sell it for 140$ at retailers, people would have picked it up, even without figures and accessories like the two-headed steed and Slither, etc. But no....they're making it into a game with a price tag of 300+, at a time when tariffs are coming into play. This darn thing is supposedly 500+ Canadian dollars, right out the gate! Who can justify that kind of purchase these days??
It seems a foregone conclusion now that the likely failure of this set - or questionable success, if they find a way to push it over the 6000 mark to save face - will doom all future MOTU/POP playsets and crowdfunding operations. Suddenly, instead of this marking the beginning of a fun new chapter in the toyline (a brand new playset after 40 years with others to follow!!) it's the death knell.
*knocks on wood*

The thing about crowdfunds is the immediate amount they bring in in one go, changing an entire column or three for a month or two... that's what they're really about. That'why they'll be around for as long as possible. The 'cost of tooling' alone allows for all sorts of manoeuvres. Think Hollywood accounting.
I have a feeling that, no matter if this works out or not, they may try it again. I think one time is not enough to doom future efforts. This has become part of the toy business, it’s not going away.
If two or more fail, yes, then they may stop. But we’re not there yet.
As for *what* the future campaigns could be, that’s another story. I don’t really know. It could be those other choices from the fan vote. It could also be some kind of Eternian Palace, or some vehicles. I wouldn’t write Filmation off just yet.
Wether crowdfund or just regular exclusives, I’m confident we’ll still get *some* CC releases, and *some* crowdfunds, whatever that will be.

It is a curious one. They can't even do Crystal Castle or Starship Eternia unless they properly support those properties. Filmation Grayskull... what the hell do you put inside it other than Sorceress' chair? There's not much point in a 200x Grayskull at this stage to my mind... and that highlights the usual space issue too.
I think the poll sketches are probably all that's left tbh. And they really would be a stretch the way Mattel goes about things!

The poll sketches are far from the only things they have available to pull from
Any take on Eternos Palace
The unproduced Gigantisaurus creature
A "Battle arena" playset (versions of which are seen in the minicomics Slave City, The Energy Zoids and Clash of Arms)
Sketchbook series playsets including the tree house playset and haunted castle
The Velvet Glove from Filmation. The Doom Buster too. Both are oversized vehicles
Prison Star (which would be fun because I don't recall if it even had a visual representation, so Mattel could flex their creative muscle for it)
The giant Iron Master robot if made to scale of the ShogunWarrior MotU robots
Whether or not Mattel would chose any of these is another matter, but we don't have a dearth of choices
Question for you guys:
So as a six year and counting Transformers collector, I have surprisingly have extremely rarely had any of my figures suffer from very noticeable photodegradation or "Yellowing" as us toy collectors more commonly call it. This mostly happens due to too much exposure to sunlight or being kept in places with high temperature for a long time, but I'm about to try the method of getting rid of it on the few of my figures that have succumbed to it (Earthrise Megatron and Kingdom Cyclonus) with the Hydrogen peroxide method (look it up).
This made me think: Do any certain MOTU Origins figures have this problem a lot or do any of you have figures that have contracted the action figure equivalent to skin cancer?
And I'm talking Origins, 2020 onwards, I know a lot of vintage pre-owned/played with OG 80s figures for how old they are so of course have it.
I mean both Transformers and MOTU have humongous casts of colorful characters, but with Transformers, due to everyone being robots made of metal like 95% of them have shades of grays and whites somewhere in their color schemes, especially the Decepticons.
MOTU meanwhile plays a lot more with color when it comes to characters since they're all mostly human/humanoid in design. Teela and She-Ra are the only prominent characters I'm assuming are most likely to have the issue.

Honestly even Eternos would be a massive stretch, literally. You've got the Filmation gang already looking shaky because of 200x and the upcoming movie (whatever Mattel says), plus the set would have to be enormous, expensive and make the Snake Lair look like an easy sale. Who has the space after Eternia, the Lair, the Fright Zone, two Grayskulls and Snake Mountain? Anything else doesn't have the necessary pull either I'd argue for all the reasons above.
There's polls within other forums and the answers are always the same - divided. But whichever option there simply isn't much support now. Even ignoring Mattel's shenanigans most of us collect other lines and have many other space hoggers. Whatever Mattel puts out next needs to be a surefire hit in every way. Recognisable to the entire fanbase, 'cheap' to mid-priced, not absolutely enormous and so on. It's a tall order when you can't even handle a clamshell the size of two retail sets.
There are a few hours left before they actually review the lair. I'm wondering if there will be any exciting news as a result of it, besides its current backing performance. I'm not counting on it too much though.

They really are gonna have to pull out something, the narrative has completely gotten away from them. The count is only going up 1 or 2% each day and it needs an immediate bump just to remove some doubt and give it momentum. It'll fail otherwise. The absolute minimum they could do is make Slither available to all backers like they did with King (of DEI) Grayskull. And really they need to add Pythonus too and make the Rattle Trap a new tier. It would still be a load of nonsense but if they're not dropping that frigging price...
Don't get me wrong, I believe it shouldn't fund for all the reasons, but Mattel will want it to.
@sketchyskeletor I’d say there are all the vintage vehicles, that would have instantly a lot of support. Perhaps some sort bundle.

I had that thought too, I'd love them, but they should be made to order IMO. And you just know Mattel would be throwing stuff like the Jet Sled and Bolt in there lmao.
@onlyoneskeletor I would probably prefer the vehicles individually, so I don’t have to spend too much money at once… But not sure if that would work with crowdfund.
As for scale, parking the toy Trak inside the Filmation Trak certainly would make this a crowdfund-worthy size.
I’m of two minds though when it comes to making vehicles “to scale”. None of the vintage vehicles were really to scale, and we can’t seat two people inside the toy Wind Raider. Back then, they “cheated” or rather, *adapted* and I sort of like this approach for a “toyetic” toy line.
Like, in this case the Filmation Trak could seat only one person in the front and two in the back, or put a Sky Sled in there. Shrinking it a bit down, like the vintage line would have done. Make it “toy-appropriate.”
Cause, like, some of those Super7 vehicles / Playsets are obnoxiously large.
But I get the concept of making all items / characters fit like in the shows.

We have the Power!
My god get rid of that daft host! And they're still keeping Slither as an early bird instead of just throwing her in.
Steve might be even faker than, well, Faker.
So you get a holographic poster, strong packaging and no news on a payment plan as many in the chat asked for.
Calling the Lair a 'limited edition' and muttering about paint and how it has four levels before showing it beside the same-sized faction sets was idiotic. It brought deserved scorn and was the one thing they had to pretend wasn't happening!
Keclar - 'no plans just yet but somehow'.
Pythonus (if he doesn't fund) - as above.
Black Wizard - nothing yet.
Slime Pit - more news to come.
In short they convinced very few I imagine.
@sketchyskeletor A reattempted Rattle Trap vehicle appears to be a source of great enthusiasm for them, which is very exciting!

Did they say that themselves? As a woman will, my girlfriend was telling me about... something or other during the bloody livestream!
@sketchyskeletor That was definitely alluded to.
That's the one good thing about Mattel, they hate to waste tooling!
I couldnt even last 3 minutes. Once the people who worked on this thing, said what they voted for, that was enough.
As for the host, the nerds love her and wack their pud to her videos of her standing/sitting at her desk stretching. Thats it, just stretch and yawn.
So did they get rid of the main fraud who was running motu the last 2 or 3 cons?( can’t remember his name, white guy who wore motu chalk line jacket during one of these things)None of them seem genuine about any of this stuff.

None that I've noticed and I've had some in direct sunlight for... years.

Got my fright zone a few days ago and unboxed it today. The box art and set itself seemed to invoke a similar reaction in my boys (8 and 10) as the original one did for me. Overall a fun set and nostalgia overload. Although the beast is cool, I would have preferred the puppet for playability. Besides that I’m happy with it. Looking forward to the slime pit!

Imagine having a livestream to hype a crowdfund (it went up the whole 1 percent it's been going up every day now anyway) and telling backers it wasn't what the people making it wanted!
Fake whoever she is needs to go, she's as sincere as a politician and in some ways more annoying. Complete cringe from her meaning the staff have to be cringey with her.
And just ignoring all that, they actually made the crowdfund worse by claiming it was a limited edition premium product* that's the same size as retail sets but costing more than two of them combined. There was nothing here for anybody holding out hope. Nothing.
* It's so premium they've made a figure we essentially own a 'bonus' if you back early, panicked and included a tier as standard, then said another tier will likely be provided to fans somehow afterwards if that doesn't fund. Sounds real fucking premium and limited edition, doesn't it?
