Well they lost me as a former completist. 200X is a total waste of time. Just another excuse to put out the SAME FUCKING CHARACTERS YET AGAIN, with slightly different styling. Oh well, I'll spend the hundreds of dollars that would have been guaranteed from me for more CC or VC Origins stuff on things like G.I. Joe Classified or Legends of Dragonore instead.
Congrats Mattel!
@durendal same here. The only stuff that was shown i want is the she ra combo, dragstor, stingor. Dont believe they showed anything else.
1. Never was a fan of the 200x line ( will give them credit for not making them hunchbacks), mattel wacking their pud waiting to release snakemen to that line. They dont fit the vintage look so wont buy them, i was one of the few that did like the few we got in the vintage line.
2. crossover stuff is trash.
3. never have i thought once about a snake lair, they can keep that expensive piece of crap. Stupid rigged voting can be shoved up their butt too!
i have had a bit of hope that this is a line that i would have 100% complete x2.( x 2 means moc for me and a set for son to play with)But they are taking so long releasing what people really want and putting out stuff that only a percentage of the line wants, that could end up hurting chanes to finish vintage line.
Ive never completed a toy line 100% because of boredom from wait time, our putting out stuff that doesnt fit instead of the good stuff.
Strike that i do have 100% complete line x2 of motu mega. That line is dead. They didnt even make it to the snakemen. Just watch a snake lair will pop out of nowhere 😐
its been fun, frustrating at times, do have tons of stuff, have everything released up to today. (With the few po on bbts, fright zone, the three figures) but then question everything when you have figures released that mean nothing to the vintage era when you are waiting for the good stuff. Its a toxic relationship!
I will buy the 200x line if my son wants to continue, and the females for my daughter, horde figures so the FEW PoP have enemies, and the ones she think are “cute” like a stinkor, orko type stuff. If they want them. So far they are one the fence, they dont like that they look different then what they have already.
@sketchyskeletor At least they aren't giving up on this brand. Not yet, anyway.
No, but their customers are. Hardcore ones at that.
At the current rate vintage is fucking years away from completion. And now so are two different Filmation lines. ToG died a quick death and Thundercats is already on repaints. They never finish a damn thing and people have had enough. There was 26 pages on the Cretins forum a few weeks back telling them to finish vintage and Filmation. It's probably even more now. And we know they read that shit.
And if you live in Northern Ireland in the UK losing your mind and sending them £385 (convert that to USD for a shock) STILL isn't good enough, apparently. They won't ship to the UK's regions even though it would cost them the exact same and the UK has the most dedicated fans outside of Germany. And Mattel needs all the help it can get.
I've never seen a bigger corporate load of incompetent wankers as Mattel.

Er, now it will ship to NI and somehow costs £345 because postage has dropped to £10. They've no idea what the fuck they're doing on Cretins. (Not that I'm rewarding them either, £345 for a retail set is still laughable)
@sketchyskeletor its not a retail set...?

Wow ... less than four hours later and 1258 backers already ?!? Impressive.
Almost 25% funded now.

I agree with you guys. And the thing is too, even if you LIKED 200x and wanted to jump on board, they've already proven TWICE that they don't care to finish anything before moving on with the next reset, so I'd be very wary of even starting it, knowing that in like two years they'll get bored again, leave something unmade but then say "don't worry, 200x fan, we'll still give you like 1 or 2 new figures a year on Mattel Creations, just like we did to vintage and Filmation fans before you...in the meantime, please buy the main cast again in MotU Origins Cartoon Collection Revelations!"
@evilwarrior I don't think its about "caring" but what the corporate heads are telling them. MOTU isn't a strong brand so they need to build up the brand, and that means He-Man, Skeletor, Man-at-Arms, Beastman, Teela, Evil-Lynn, and Trap-Jaw over and over with a few others mixed in until MOTU is strong enough to have Rio Blast at retail.
Transformers did this for over a decade. It took 20 years before Hasbro was confident enough for all three seekers to be in the sane line.

As someone who is not a Motu Origins collector, I may take my time backing this project. I am just trying to complete my larger-scale brand with other elements, such as vehicles and playsets. In other words, the mummified Lady Slither may not be useful to me.
@onlyoneskeletor You can always sell Lady Slither and recoup some of the cost. I did that with Eternia’s “King Grayskull”…
1 hour 12 minutes in, a heavy suggestion that Mattel want She-Ra back from Dreamworks, but easily and presumably for cheap...

@grayskullguardsman It's an interesting suggestion, but I haven't had the time or energy to fully embrace that salutary perspective these last few months, and I'm afraid next year won't be any different.

I am happy for those who wanted good MYP figures... Mattel delivered and then some. This gives me a lot of hope for the oft dismissed New Adventures / Jetlag series.
It's no secret that I am not keen on the 2002 MOTU designs. This will be an easy skip (or very selective cherry-pick) for me.
However, I am certainly interested in the fact that these can still part-swap with Origins, CC, TMNT, TC, and WWE... That fact alone makes me want to build a new He-Man with all of the myriad pieces we now have available.
However, the Transformers stuff just looks ridiculous (in a very bad way.)
Whoever thought that this was a good idea at Mattel HQ needs a re-education... seriously, of ALLLLLL the properties out there that actually fit the MOTU aesthetic (Thundar, Bravestarr, Black Star, Crystar, Galaxy Warriors, Lost World of Warlord, Battle Beasts, Visionaries, Super Naturals, Inhumanoids, Warlord of Mars.... and the list goes on), Mattel goes for the Transformers... seriously?!?
They won't do New Adventures figures... but they will put out this drivel???

Can someone explain to me the full story as of now about Snake Lair and how it's currently controversial? Even as a big Origins collector, I haven't been paying attention 'cuz hell nah I ain't buying it for whatever high price.
All I know is that it was a big fan vote thing for a big crowd funded item that won in 2023 but was then cancelled and now two years later uncanceled if it reaches it's funding goal? Am I getting this right?
Also I know the Snake Men are like a major thing in MOTU but is this proposed set based off any specific lair in any MOTU media at least in terms of design? For a bit I assumed it was based off a cancelled 80s play set.
And I'm guessing people aren't a fan of it because the proposed price point doesn’t seem worth it for it's contents?
I suppose they prioritize the most popular franchises for potential hybridization for obvious reasons. Ah, white collars are gonna be white collars (lol)!Whoever thought that this was a good idea at Mattel HQ needs a re-education... seriously, of ALLLLLL the properties out there that actually fit the MOTU aesthetic (Thundar, Bravestarr, Black Star, Crystar, Galaxy Warriors, Lost World of Warlord, Battle Beasts, Visionaries, Super Naturals, Inhumanoids, Warlord of Mars.... and the list goes on), Mattel goes for the Transformers... seriously?!Well they lost me as a former completist. 200X is a total waste of time. In short the whole project has been fishy from day one. Longer explanation follows...
Mattel did a crowdfund poll where you could vote as many times as you wanted if you knew how. The poll had loads of options as mere sketches, not a single detail, ranging from large/massive vehicles to enormous playsets, even including the vintage Fright Zone they obviously had in an advanced stage of preproduction because it's in hands now as a retail release!
Practically anybody you would have talked to wanted a Filmation Attak Trak or the Fright Zone from the show. The results were never revealed IIRC and yet somehow in almost no time at all we went from having a poll to a fully tooled rival to Eternia in scale playset at SDCC 2024. Even folks who keep their powder dry think the poll was a sham.
That reveal is where the real problems began. The SDCC set looked very different to the voted on poll sketch (which was the clamshell set shown a few days ago). Said clamshell is roughly the size of Grayskull and Snake Mountain, it's predecessor held the Rattle Trap vehicle aloft on the outside it was so large.
The feedback was immediate - this wasn't what people voted for and Mattel had no option but to pull the project before we even got the price. After some time they did an online questionnaire that suggested and gauged opinion on a redesigned Lair that would cost around 300 bucks. It's an obviously high price for a clamshell, retail-size set, so people rightly assumed it would come packed out with all sorts if the cost was gonna be that crazy and if that's what they were now getting. And they said so because the main complaint was the pulled project was far removed from the poll sketch.
Cut to SDCC 25 and Mattel put out a clamshell set close to or at a third smaller than it's predecessor. It's essentially the same set in terms of features and accessories with a new front aesthetic, but vastly shrunk down and somehow costing the suggested 300 bucks everybody thought would lead to 'a proper crowdfund'. To add insult to injury Mattel made a redesigned Lady Slither, a figure most already have, the early bird special. IIRC the next tier was her steed, which people actually want, and the final was Priest Pythonus (same again). However it was obvious to anyone with a brain that at 300 bucks before shipping for a retail-sized set with a vacuous Slither the tiers wouldn't come close to being hit if it took 6000 just for the base offering. The issue to this day is purely the price, it's in EVERY comment section.
So Mattel panicked and at the last moment announced the steed and Slither are now part of the base offering. That's probably the only reason the funding is around 30% today. There isn't a fucking hope of Pythonus getting included unless Mattel panics again to get the project over the line. Frankly there's zero guarantee it'll fund whatever they do, international sales will be totally negligible because it's not even a straight dollars to whatever conversion (£335 in UK money for instance before shipping), and again, every comment section is a version of 'that's just too much money'.
Said comment sections also have a handful of folks saying they're in for two or three sets, which if true is obviously a problem when you're kinda finishing the initial launch hype around a mere 30% (though Mattel are having some sorta Q&A event soon).
Loads have said all the tiers should have been included as standard, again harking back to about the only things you can add to a standard clamshell. Mattel are even nickel and diming on that today. If they at least did that much the obvious thing would then be to have the Rattle Trap as a new tier, giving the perception of value for what was now included. But Jesus, the project would still struggle even then.
There's really big side issues here too. They just charged 90 bucks with a membership fee on top for a Fright Zone (part of the damn crowdfund poll!) AND reissued a repainted Grayskull as an Amazon exclusive. Which just highlights the fact the Snake Lair in this iteration really doesn't need to be a crowdfund with such a weak offering. It could easily be made to order or a retail/Cretins exclusive because obviously Amazon and BBTS didn't order miniscule amounts of their respective playsets. On top of that many reckon Mattel merely want to charge the customer for their own initial failure with Lair 1.0 and the cost of retooling elements of it for 2.0.
It's been a debacle from start to finish. And we're not even there yet.

We have the Power!
@admin I was immediately struck by the sheer precision of the new lineup.
Same. Kills me they're probably too late for my collecting (I have an insane MOTU collection as in multiple copies of figures, both major playsets x2, the FZ on the way, vehicles/steeds... and that's before you get to Classified, TMNT, Transformers etc etc!)
