It's the scale difference, Chronicles is smaller and it wouldn't take long to at least complete the OG vintage line in Masterverse. And yet once again it looks like Mattel is lying about a line being 'paused'.

It would have been the easiest thing in the world to rebrand Masterverse as Chronicles and carry on as before. Then the new movie figures would be in scale with everything people already owned. Including the 1987 movie figures!

I feel like y'all tend to forget that the scale would probably be good for those who wanna start fresh and/or those who actually want He-Man to go with their Marvel Legends shelf without dwarfing everybody.

do y'all REALLY hate Chronicles that much?
It's just another rebrand to Masterverse, as I see it. Masterverse has gone through a ton of rebrands so i don't see why this one specifically irks you guys.

Is it just because Chronicles reminds people of Scott Neitlich a bit too much?
(i.e he pitched a 2016 refresh for Classics called MoTU Chronicles)

And yet you literally say things like "don't buy Chronicles" as if you want this franchise to die yet another horrible death and be restricted to online at a specific storefront again

Yes, that was in the context of Masterverse getting a reprieve. I'm not the one saying Masterverse is paused, that's Mattel, and everybody sees through it. We've been here before. If Chronicles becomes the tip of the spear Masterverse never gets finished. Why should anybody be expected to restart a line that'll never get finished yet again?

And the brand will never actually die, that's simply not how corporations work. But it'll never be as good as Origins and Masterverse ever again. So the current fanbase is probably as big it'll ever get unless the movie is somehow the new 2007 Transformers. Franchises need to renew across generations. And it's not just MOTU, GI Joe needs a media miracle for it's future, Transformers is even getting to that point.

@sketchyskeletor Still, boycotting Chronicles (and maybe even Core) will only make Mattel think "nobody wants MOTU" and shelve it in a way

It's only because of their idiotic decisions that we got to this point in the first place. Time and again they've needlessly damaged this brand to the point folks are buying expensive figures from Mondo instead of dealing with Mattel's madness or selling up completely. Go onto Club Grayskull and you'll see page after page of people basically asking if there's any chance Mattel could just be normal and finish a faction never mind a line. What use is Mattel if it never finishes anything?

There was a time when Hasbro buying Mattel would have been a nightmare (and we got pretty close). Right now it would be the least worst option for any remaining fans in the future. This movie is likely Mattel's last successful shot at retail unless they decide to heat up the Classics molds or have all those Masterverse sublines actually play out. The fanbase was never renewed and nobody is getting any younger. The ball is in Mattel's court, not ours.

We'll find out soon who's frankly stupid enough to start fresh after the last five years and how many new customers actually come on board. If you haven't bought into MOTU already between Classics, Origins and Masterverse, are you really likely to start another large collection this late in your geekiness to go with your multiple Hasbro lines and DC stuff? Really? But hey time will tell.

Even setting all that aside, Chronicles should still dwarf the likes of Marvel Legends because they're 6.5 inch and chunky, unless Mattel really have lost it!

Do you really think the average 1/12 or 1/10 collector will want those outdated and stiff sculpts to go with their Marvel Legends or Classified Joes?

haha.

yeah ok sure, don't update the Classics molds at all, they're totally gonna be acceptable in today's climate of double-jointed everythings and butterfly joints as standard.
Look, I get the concern about resetting, but Masterverse keeps on resetting and nobody gave it a problem despite them consistently changing the aesthetic and relying on the "Filmation 15" to sell it to retail.

You do an anniversary line at relatively zero cost, have you seen what they go for today? Or what Hasbro has been doing with Transformers of all things?

The MV figures were all still well within how they were supposed to look. The issue was never finishing a single major faction while continually starting new sublines.

Chronicles is interesting to me as a movie line. If it starts branching out to vintage and cartoon style figures I will probably lose interest. I'm not interested in buying the same characters again a little bigger than Classics and a little smaller than Masterverse. Chronicles would have to do something really interesting like New Eternia to get me to invest in that.

They've been hinting strongly at NA for Origins but it's obviously unlikely to happen properly for MV now. I want all of it, the designs are phenomenal.

And that is a bloody shame because the Masterverse buck / aesthetic would have been PERFECT for updated versions of the vintage New Adventures characters...

Seriously, guys like Nocturna, Vizar, and Lizorr just scream MV!

That's exactly what I want!  I'm done! I don't care anymore. I want Mattel to move Masterverse over to being a Mattel Creations exclusive. Finish up the last few characters from the original vintage line & call it a day.  I mainly only need Rio-Blast, Extendar, Blast Attak, King Hiss, Rattlor, Tung Lashor & Snake Face. Just 7 more figures & I'm good. I really wanted all the Princess Of Power girls in Masterverse but I gave up on that. Looks like Frosta & She-Ra are the only ones we're gonna get. Mattel didn't do jack shit last year for She-Ra's 40th anniversary.

But I can't have 1 Rio-Blast while Toy Habits just posted news about the Vintage Collection Beast-Man. I don't need 4 fuckin Beast-Man figures, I NEED ONE RIO-BLAST!!!

Mattel put time, energy, effort & money into producing 4 Beast-Man figures in Masterverse but they can't put anything into ONE Rio-Blast. That's my problem right there!  That's what I'm always complaining about!  These shit fuckin toy companies keep making the same characters over & over & over again while totally ignoring others. Mattel doesn't care about 75% of the characters. All they wanna do is keep pumping out the same 9 characters over & over again. He-Man, Skeletor, Man-At-Arms, Teela, Evil-Lyn, Mer-Man, Beast-Man, Trap Jaw & Tri-Klops. That's why they keep creating new lines, because they only care about those 9 characters.

And once you understand this, you'll give up like I am. Say "FUCK IT!", call it a day & move on. there really is no point anymore. The only reason they made all the characters in Classics was because it was an online exclusive. They didn't have to deal with stores like Walmart & Target & the general public. The buyers for Classics were strictly MOTU fans. And look how much that line accomplished. You got characters like Granamyr, Shadow Beasts, the Griffin & Battle Lion. Stuff you will never see in a retail line. So hell yes!  Make Masterverse a Mattel Creations exclusive line & piss on Walmart & Target.

Then so be it, honestly. I am not *just buying* MOTU to make Mattel happy. I don't want to throw more funds into this ADHD machine that Mattel has going if they fail to consider the needs of their fan base.

Masterverse really did take some effort to get off the ground, with how truely terrible the first couple of figures were. But I feel it has really developed into something special. For them to just throw away that good will to chase the next quick buck is simply getting on my nerves.

Again, I hope some of y’all bring their message and concerns about MV to Mattel, even though it might not do much, why not try it at least…

I’m also tired, and feel that Mattel is just gonna Mattel, but I’ll try to get some posts onto the Club Grayskull Forum etc

Some continuation on Creations would be my dream at this point.

Who are we kidding? Anyone who has followed this franchise and its many adaptations since its decline in popularity forty years ago knows that Motu found the recognition it deserved at the beginning of a decade when there was still enough interest in “swords and sorcery.” Mattel is the sole entity grappling with this reality, and understandably so: its apprehensions are of a distinctly pecuniary nature. Resolving to stop chasing the unrealistic dream of a modern-day mass market would be much more profitable. The already established market of purist fans has carried the license for decades and is within its rights to expect some semblance of recognition, such as completing its various iterations and building up its vast and promising universe. If they throw in the towel, I couldn't ask for anything better. This is the right time for that to happen. Licensing is the way to go for bigger companies such as Mattel, which definitely has no clue what it's marketing and just doesn't want to take any risks anymore. Smaller, passionate companies like Mondo, Super7, Mezco, Storm Collectibles, and Neca are ready to take over and delight us fans!

@cosmic @yen @sketchyskeletor @ornclown @lasastard @sci-fitsunami If you are members of Club Grayskull, you may have received a survey from Mattel Creations in the past few hours. It's the perfect opportunity to let them know how we feel about their relentless and unbearable practices, which threaten to further dissolve what little customer base they have left.

@onlyoneskeletor thanks! I have so far successfully resisted to be roped into this nerd tax that is Club Grayskul 😀 I could never find a justifiable reason for Mattel to charge 10 bucks for us to be able to..give them money?

Anyway, hope that people do speak up - but I doubt that Mattel will care. Probably some MBA looking at charts making these kinds of decisions. And the charts probably tell them that the same 10-15 characters make the most money, so naturally they will try to re-release them ad nauseum rather than working on cultivating their fan base.

@sci-fitsunami Then, just check your emails. It is quite recent. I've included the content I mentioned that is related to Mattel's request.

What about those who entered late and had to pay $100+ just to get regular He-Man and Skeletor?

I don't really understand what you're asking here. What do people who entered late have to do with Mattel Creations handling Masterverse going forward?

I'm talking about Classics itself and how it was "successful" in spite of not being beginner-friendly because of its format

Also, I thought you were saying you wanted MOTU to be dead at retail period and not just Origins and/or MV, including there not being any modern media to give it a reason to be at retail and also excluding kids

Yes, have done it (surveymonkey asks to make an account at the end, that’s not necessary for your answers to count, right?)

I’ve written a long text in the last box, since most of the other questions seem to be about making some online collection tracker, which I have zero interest in.

Also, I thought you were saying you wanted MOTU to be dead at retail period and not just Origins and/or MV, including there not being any modern media to give it a reason to be at retail and also excluding kids

 I was saying:

1. If Masterverse gets killed because of Chronicles, then I don't care anymore. I don't care at all if MOTU disappears completely. But that's just me. I'm a Masterverse collector so I have no use for 6" figures that won't fit into my collection. If they kill Masterverse I'm done with modern MOTU so if it totally disappears from retail, I don't have a horse in that race.

2. Instead of Masterverse being completely canceled, I would rather have them move it over to Mattel Creations so they can cater to the dedicated fans & stop worrying about an imaginary new generation of kids that don't give a rat's ass about toys anyway.

Also, I wasn't late to the Classics party, I totally skipped it because I was pissed off at how they handed 200x. So I'm one of those people who have to go back & pay the ridiculous aftermarket prices. I'm gonna have to go pay $200 for a Classics Scare Glow someday. And I want a lot from Classics so it's gonna be expensive. If they stop making Masterverse I will start picking off the Classics I want 1 by 1.  At least all the characters are available unlike the newer lines. Just can't count on Mattel to finish a line as long as regular retail is involved. The only way to do it is MattyCollector or Mattel Creations & only focus on the dedicated fanbase.
