@ornclown Pretty sure they will just re-release all the usual suspects under the Chronicles umbrella, once they are done with the main movie figures. The annoying thing is, that it will probably work and enough of us are going to do it all over again.
@Ornclown That's what I originally though they were gonna do. But I suspect it's these 2 things:
1. Shrinkflation. Smaller figures for the same price. Hasbro is getting $27.99 for 6" figures so why should Mattel be satisfied with $23.99 for 7" figures? GREED is the name of the game!
2. They want to make MOTU competitive with Marvel Legends & GI Joe Classified.
I'm still wondering why Mattel didn't incorporate Chronicles into their already established Masterverse line and scale...?
MV is already home to the 87 Movie figures, classic (vintage) figures, as well as New Eternia.
Maybe it's because they're used to spying on their neighborhood? 👎 In any case, we know how exploitative that type of approach can be (three to four waves at most). Once the movie hype dies down, I'm curious to find out how many old collectors would be willing to challenge their limited space and/or their satisfaction of having amassed so many replicas of our heroes of Eternia over the years. Once the fantasy of a new generation fully embracing the franchise is put aside, especially given Mattel's numerous failures to date, we are the bread Mattel needs to spread its butter on. I think it's smart of them to keep the Masterverse line alive, as well as a few offerings via Mattel Creations (most probably New Eternia). Further collateral damage and the insignificant trust their customers still have may definitely turn to dust at this point. No more Motu business...

For the reasons you've stated I really hope Chronicles dies on it's arse. I shouldn't have to say that about my favourite franchise but it's true. We kept the faith and got treated like crap for it. But as you imply, there's likely still enough rubes out there.
@sketchyskeletor There will indeed be enough rubes out there gullible enough and beholden to FOMO enough to be induced into buying whatever MOTU-branded shit Mattel shovels at them in perpetuity, because the pervasive, paranoid narrative in the post 200X years has become, "If we don't support the latest lines, then MOTU will die and our childhood will disappear forever!!!"

The detachment from reality is bizarre tbh. I mean how many lines within lines does Mattel have to screw up for you to spot the pattern? It's gotta be wilful blindness.
I only got back into MOTU with Origins. I nearly ditched Masterverse countless times - the instinct was obviously correct but it kept on going despite the worst start and was recently getting better, so... plus I didn't buy everything like I do Origins. With both it was a case of being too far in, so I haven't made that mistake again with the crossovers, 200x etc.
@ornclown exactly...there's only about 15 characters in the movie (according to IMDB). if you don't count Adam's HR colleague or idk, the Toy shop clerk or Eternian warrior #7... which makes the entire Chronicles move line really short...what they gonna do after they release those 15 ? another re-branding ? another sub-line ? and they want to cancel MV for this ? the cream rises to the top
I walked into my Walmart today & noticed a tag on one of the pegs that says "CLEARANCE MASTERVERSE $14". YES!!! FINALLY!!! They're going to get rid of the ridiculous amount of VC Zodac's. This is what I've been hoping & waiting for. I can pick up some extras for custom fodder & now my store will have a chance to get the later waves with Man-At-Arms, Teela, Stratos & Mer-Man. Right? RIGHT? Nope! These f**kin buffoons only put the 3 Flying Fists He-Mans & 1 NE Fisto on clearance. The Vintage Collection still rang up at full price.
So I went back & grabbed the tag off the peg & showed the cashier the tag says "MASTERVERSE" & the top of the VC box also says "MASTERVERSE". So she's like "No problem, I can change the price". So I got the last Faker & 1 Zodac for $14 each (and the only Cartoon Collection Buzz-Off for $12). I'll probably pick up some more Zodac's & make a Cosmic Enforcer army. Dunk the body in some RIT Dye & repaint the armor. Or make some Snakemen or ninjas. I dunno yet.
They're probably going to have to start clearing it all out to make room for Chronicles. There's like 4 rows across & 3 rows down loaded with VC Zodac's.

I make no qualms about wanting to get these new movie based figures... but, it's ridiculous that it has to be one or the other when Mattel had a golden opportunity to just insert these new movie based characters into an already established line of figures.
In reality it would have served two purposes: 1) It strengthens the MV line by driving moviegoers to discover its existence (and hopefully causes them to want to "collect them all.") And, 2) it's the perfect vehicle to introduce a set of characters the will most likely never exceed 10 - 12 figures.
To your other point, if they do start to insert the 'usual suspects' into the new Chronicles line... will they appear as if they were in the movie?

I think Scott Neitlich had a lot to do with the building of this narrative.
His constant reminders of the fragility of the MOTU brand were mind-numbing.
Obviously, MOTU is a strong brand... no matter how hard Mattel tries to kill it, it keeps coming back. It just pisses me off that they want to kill one line in order to promote another when they could have simply meshed the two together.
Why do they need to be separate lines?? For that matter, why the hell don't they make the 'First Ones' in the classic 5.5" Origins style???
MISSED OPPORTUNITIES.

Someone made the point on Youtube that Mattel might be trying to reconcile their figure lines in this 6" scale to streamline their workflow with the new DC figures also set to be released in that same scale.
Now, I am not sure if there would be much shared tooling here, since MOTU has a very specific aesthetic, but as far as plausbility goes...well, it wouldn't be entirely implausible.
If they were smart they would make the DC figures 7" to fit in with McFarlane's already existing DC Multiverse line. And it wouldn't screw up Masterverse.

I thought the new are supposedly DC figures were 6.5 inches…
Someone else made a good point, that the stylized Masterverse may not have been as good for the likeness of the human actors. But then, we have had the 87’ movie figures.
Why on Earth do you think I'm a pandemic denier? Wtf? I'm merely saying Mattel shunted it all to Europe like they frequently do. We've seen it time and time again, quite often stuff is so overstocked in a particular country in Europe it goes to clearance as other territories lose out just because. That's no way to keep a business running.
Well, you are kinda denying, that the Pandemic had anything to do with early Origins distribution problems, but I know your hatred of Mattel won’t allow any excuses. Even a once in a century plague.
Because every company besides Mattel was doing *great* back then, and had absolutely no problems getting their goods to where they wanted 😏 The shelves were FULL of Hasbro and all other toys.
Now, yes , there’s other difficulties, there has been for a while. But really, if it wasn’t for the MV fiasco, I’m not really that bothered.
They are not out to get you personally, lol
Right, so they managed to ship them all the way to Europe during the pandemic would be the obvious thing here. You seem to be putting your own pandemic hurt on me even though I didn't actually mention the pandemic!
And yeah, I've got problems with Mattel's way of doing business just like the WWE, Hot Wheels fans and whoever else. So don't bother gaslighting me, please.
Not that I *have* to have the last word, but what I mean is that in a crisis, you ship wherever you can, however you can, it doesn’t always make sense– that’s the nature of a crisis. They would ship it directly from China ofc. And yes, you may dump it somewhere, just to move the product. You don’t think that at all?
Maybe now their production runs are just small and any fluctuation messes stuff up. I had to pay much money to get my Blade and Battle Armor Skeletor… They gave up on MV a while ago, and their mind has already been on stupid Chronicles. 👎
So, *if* Masterverse is really ending in 2027 - what would be your 5 figures Mattel really has to release to give the line a proper send-off?
For me, I suppose it would have to be New Eternia versions of:
- Rokkon + Stonedar
- Laser Light He-man/Skeletor
- Spikor
And I wouldn't mind if they did a poll to pick two or three characters that get a re-release (Webstor?!), Creations-exclusive.

I want Spikor (my favorite character) in the Vintage Collection. I want him to look exactly like the Origins figure just in the Masterverse Style. Same goes for Scare Glow.
For New Eternia I want:
1. RIO BAST! Now my #1 most wanted/NEEDED figure. If Rio-Blast is not revealed at SDCC this year I'm gonna really lose my shit.
2. Tung Lashor
3. Rattlor
4. Snake Face
5. Lady Slither
And an oversized/deluxe King Hiss for Mattel Creations. I NEED all the Snakemen covered. They went hard with the Snakemen in Origins but forgot all about them in Masterverse. If the line is truly ending it's about time the Snakemen got some love.
A Mattel Creations Stonedar & Rokkon 2-pack would kick ass. Also, oversized/deluxe Extendar & Dragon Blaster Skeletor NEED to happen.
I NEED them to make Rattlor so I can make a custom Rattle Hood. I'm already working on a custom Necro Conda.

I mean, the Revelations Spikor wasn't too far off, right?
Scare Glow is a good point tho, forgot about him. The Revelations release was terrible, just terrible.

Nowhere near enough spikes. Way too plain, boring & cartoony. I want one that looks exactly like the original or the Sketchbook Series.
SPIKES, LOTS OF SPIKES! Mainly his armor/body was too plain. It looks lazy.
@lasastard Well, you, and a few colleagues here are already aware of my typical selections on this subject, so I won't repeat myself. However, I've just recognized that a particular reference I desired couldn't literally be made unless they were willing to add an additional subline. And at this point in Masterverse's development, hmm...
@onlyoneskeletor Honestly, Mattel has created so many aborted (sub-) lines at this point, I don't think adding another would matter one bit. Actually, it would be kinda funny tbh.
@lasastard I wish I could be as enthusiastic as you are! However, if it was to occur, the latest subline under discussion should be dubbed "Powers of Grayskull" so that Lady Slither could be placed under the most precise category.
@lasastard we need Snakemen, having 0 Snakemen so far is a travesty...but I cannot choose 5, we need more..10...15...Modulok/Multi Bot...Rio Blast, Extendar...5 is not enough
@ornclown I'm super pissed they didn't do exactly what you're asking. New Eternia just hit it's stride! Mattel actually succeeded in making me more excited for new MOTU figures than any other Big 2 toyline.
