Written by There is no way to spin it, the new “Masters of the Universe” Movie from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Studios had a disappointing performance at the box office this summer, only pulling in an approximate $113 Million worldwide.
If there is any way this movie can recover, it will be once “Masters of the Universe” becomes available on streaming…. and now we have our premiere date.
The“Masters of the Universe” movie will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video beginning July 22, per Variety.
Since the pandemic, many middle-aged men and women (the core demographic for the Masters of the Universe brand) have changed their viewing habits, opting to stream movies at home versus going to an actual movie theater.
Will there be enough viewers from home to turn this ship around and make “Masters of the Universe” a success story versus a Hollywood 1980s muscle-bound warrior cautionary tale? We can only hope.

A great moment of truth for a potential movie sequel, but there should at least be some push from all the frustrated French fans who are only discovering this movie on this occasion.

I will watch the movie 100 times in a row when this comes out. I am not joking, I will have it on actual loop to give it good viewership. We all should.

@skele-twa we’ll do what the snyder cult did, except we know we have a chance for a sequel, and this is our of goodness not cult reasons.

It’s so n fortunate it couldn’t find its audience at the theatres. It looked like they did many things right, and put much much heart into it.
Audiences and habits have changed, yes. I believe every generation at some point starts going to the movies less. But through the lockdowns, with the big push on streaming, it has been a bigger change / turnover than ever.
Gen Y seems to be driving cinema recovery, and Gen Z, and their habits and cultural touchstones are different.
Audiences are fickle nowadays, there are huge successes for some great movies, but also failures for some great movies.
I do hope through all the marketing for this film, and the movie itself, we’ve gotten some new fans for the toys.
