For years Michael ”Smitty.81” Smith has been largely responsible for digitizing minicomics for the "Masters of the Universe" community. Now, HE-MANIA.COM will be officially cataloging his work, accompanied with his personal reviews.
COMIC:
REVIEW:
“Under Siege ”
STORY:
Power-Con Hordak is attacking Eternos! Horde Troopers pour out of portals. Flying Fists He-Man, Clamp Champ and some Royal Guards fight against the incoming Evil Horde. He-Man is feeling overwhelmed when Grizzlor tries to jump him, but He-Man is saved by Skeletor?! He-Man and Skeletor tease each other for a bit before He-Man pushes Skeletor too far and Skeletor’s anger and frustration turn him in to TERROR CLAWS SKELETOR! Shiny sports bra and all. He-Man and Skeletor team up to defeat Hordak and his Horde Troopers. Skeletor tries to attack He-Man, and an onomatopoeia knocks Skeletor out.
ART:
Once again, the early mini comics outshine the newer ones in the art department. There are some signs that the work was done in a hurry, but for the most part, I think it’s really good. The opening page is beautiful and even in versions without any text this picture tells a story. I really like the panel of He-Man saying “Look Skeletor-“ and Skeletor’s transformation. It really looks like the artists that worked on this were fans that wanted to do it right, even if they had a tight schedule.
CONTINUITY:
With the way Horde characters were released early on and somewhat randomly from 2021 on, it’s hard to put together a solid continuity. The Hordak Figure came out on 2021 and was sent back to Despondos, but he shows up again later that years as Buzz Saw Hordak. Trying to put together a continuity can really send you down a rabbit hole…
FINAL THOUGHT:
Despite the self-induced madness this story’s connection to other possibly unrelated mini comics gives me, it’s a solid standalone story with lots of action and some humor.
