On the brand being a part of his childhood:

IDRIS ELBA: “It’s a really big part of my childhood. My parents couldn’t afford the Star Wars toys, and the He-Man toys were cheaper, because it wasn’t as big. So I had He-Man, She-Ra, Battle Cat. The cartoons were always a little bit more fun, a bit more camp, a bit more out-there."

On Director Travis Knight’s vision:

"Travis, who’s an incredible director, wanted to pay homage to the aesthetic of the original. I was all for that. Though it made me think, ‘Shit, I’ve gotta get into the gym!’”

On the Eternia sets:

“It was like being at a big amusement arcade with all these massive characters,”

Empire Magazine’s “Masters Of The Universe” issue will hit newsstands on Thursday February 12th.

We’ll see you next time.

  1. It’s very nice to hear he has a warm relationship to the property.
Also interesting that He-Man & Co were cheaper in the US, cheaper than the much smaller Star Wars toys. I had to beg my mom to buy me my very first MOTU figure (Webstor), and she regretted it later because he was so darn expensive. In Europe, they were priced by size I think lol. MOTU was a lot more pricey than Star Wars where I grew up, add to that a different income level, and that my parents didn’t have a lot of money, it was a big expense.
