The Great Black Wizard is coming!
Mattel Creations has just teased a new addition to their Masters of the Universe: Origins (Vintage) Action Figure Line!
Here is what Mattel had to say to Club Grayskull members:
Heroes beware: a dangerous new evildoer arrives soon!
You won’t want to miss the first Club Grayskull member-exclusive of 2026, complete with 20+ points of articulation and an included mini-comic!
Here’s a sneak peek at this iconic villain’s first-ever figure ahead of its release on January 9th, 2026 at 9AM PT!

What Mattel is teasing is The Great Black Wizard, one of Axel Gimenez’s concepts from the older Masters of the Universe “Classics” action figure line that was never produced.

If you recall, fans already received a tease of the The Great Black Wizard in artwork for the Masters of the Universe: Origins line.

And now, finally, The Great Black Wizard will be a reality… coming Friday, January 9th!

We’ll see you next time!

Called it.
The safety of this brand from the taking away of its January slot by another emerging and so-called ‘super cool’ new Motu toyline is confirmed (lol).
That bandwidth character looks interesting.
I have wanted Bandwidth as a figure since the Classics days. I’ve got my fingers crossed!
Seems more and more likely that we’ll see all of Axel’s original characters get released in Origins. Someone at Mattel must love that guy!
@durendal Or he knows something about somebody.
“Stretch that line out! Stretch it!"
The Great Black Wizard is more of a description than a name. I am curious what his backstory will be and his real name.
Imma be real, while I have the previous three, He-Ro, Sharella and Red Shadow are really figures I felt like buying rather than wanting them and if there was a Mattel Creations sale.
I think Powers of Grayskull is basically a line of Glup Shittos based on a toyline that never happened yet has some real lore.
i really think they should’ve stopped at 3. I do not care about POG and like many I’d rather have new MC exclusive figures of characters we actually want.
also the fact that it’s been more than half a year since they brought back Club Grayskull and they are the only exclusives aside from one I think. Was it Dragstor or Sting-Or?
I mean for this subscription service that offers exclusive figures, don’t y’all think there should be more variety?
@slycooperastroboy51 all of the CG figures have been and will continue to be POG.
@smitty-81 Source? If it was ever officially stated then I ain’t aware.
@slycooperastroboy51 I think they said that at SDCC, or maybe some other event last year. Also context clues.
Looks like a cool figure. Maybe when its available outside of the membership and the cash flow allows it.
I don’t think any of the other CG figures have been made available to non-members. I don’t think this will be any different.
Nothing I’d loose sleep over. I got lucky I guess that I got Sharella on a fan to fan reseller stall in a regional convention a few months back for like 25 bucks. If I stumble over that guy for similar: Neat. If not; well; then not 🙂
The only other time I was interested in these was with the Fright Zone but that got into regular shops so I kinda assumed these might as well.
I’d like them to continue having Powers of Grayskull/Classics Exclusive figures on Mattel Creations and release the remaining Vintage characters to retail (or at least online retailers) but, ya know…
Can we PLEASE just finish the regular line? Multi-Bot is available in other countries, Queen Marlena is floating around elsewhere, we’re getting all these crazy unreleased concept figures…..I just want Blade!
@japanesesynthesizer I want a lot more than regular vintage.
@japanesesynthesize
Same as @durendal
@japanesesynthesizer That’s two franchises still waiting for a new Blade
GBW appears on the UK site, but not US? That’s what I’m finding, anybody else?
