STILL WAITING: Comparing the time frame of “Masters of the Universe” to the Teaser Trailer drop for Mattel’s first Movie “Barbie”

Three years ago today, the teaser trailer for Mattel’s first studio film “Barbie The Movie” was released worldwide:

Ultimately becoming a smashing success for Mattel, Barbie’s teaser trailer was released in theaters worldwide on Tuesday, December 16th, 2022 with over seven months to go before the film’s theatrical release.

Only in theaters July 21, 2023

However today, when it comes to Mattel’s second motion picture “Masters of the Universe“, there are only five months and 3 weeks to go before the movie’s theatrical debut… with no teaser trailer to be seen.

Only in theaters June 5th, 2026

We understand that both films have different distributors and “Masters of the Universe” is a more special effects laiden film, but it does feel like a missed opportunity not to get a trailer in front of audiences for “Avatar: Fire and Ash” (considering the multi-billion dollar franchise Avatar has become).

Missed opportunity or not, the only other logical spot (other than Avatar 3) is pairing the “Masters of the Universe” trailer with “Mercy” which is another big theatrical film coming from MOTU’s own Amazon MGM Studios… starring actor Chris Pratt and coming the 23rd of January, 2026.

So when will the “Masters of the Universe” teaser trailer come out? We will all find out together.

We’ll see you next time

    1. Barbie’s teaser is 45 second long. Motu finished filming in June. Mattel had plenty of time to put 45 seconds worth of footage together.

Shoot they put together the whole film and screened it to the public test audiences a month ago that included a sizzle reel. Little bizarre and mildly irritating they still haven’t released the teaser when every other major film releasing around the same time period has a teaser out already.
Entertainment Weekly is doing their 2026 preview this week so maybe something will materialize this week?

  1. I have a strong feeling that this movie is going to get pushed back. As of right now, it’s opening a few weeks after the new Star Wars movie AND it’s opening the same month as Toy Story 5 and Supergirl. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey follows a month later and Spiderman follows 2 weeks later. This is an EXTREMELY risky summer to launch this film. I’d push it to September (Resident Evil & Clayface) or October (The Last Airbender).
