First Steps Film Camera Trainee talks working on the New “MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE” Movie

Back in April we learned that award winning movie cinematographer Fabian Wagner was offering job opportunities to work with his crew on the new “Masters of the Universe” movie.

Looking for someone interested in being a trainee and building a career under a “First Steps Programme”, this incredible invitation into the world of Eternia did not require any experience to get the job. All you had to be was female!

So who was the female lucky enough to get these “first steps” and a chance to work alongside legendary Heroic and Evil Warriors in the world of Eternia? This week we learned it was none other than Leah Smith.

Here is what she had to say:

“Being given the opportunity to join the crew on Masters of the Universe was an incredible experience.

“Having only recently started as a camera trainee, working on such a large-scale production was something I never imagined possible.

I was fortunate to learn how to work effectively within the camera department, guided by some of the best professionals in the business.

“The First Steps Programme has provided me with invaluable insight into what it takes for a Director of Photography like Fabian to help bring a film like Masters (of the Universe) to life — a role I aspire to reach one day.

Throughout my time on set, I felt incredibly supported, and I’m deeply grateful for the patience and willingness to share knowledge shown by focus puller Mitchell Payne, Fabian, and everyone in the camera department
.

Congratulations to Leah Smith for such an amazing start to her career!

The “Masters of the Universe” Movie is currently in Post-Production with the film scheduled to be released in cinemas worldwide on June 5th, 2026

We’ll see you next time!
