  1. I’m very much on the fence about this.  I like it, if it were the same price/ size as Castle Grayskull or The Fight Zone I might even say an instant buy.
$300 is a lot, and I have Otakcon the same month.  Beside I still haven’t had a place to set up my Eternia.  Another expensive large playset, may not be the best thing to get

  2. I think it has a decent chance this time. Sticking to the original design while adding some ingenious tweaks here and there may win over hardcore fans. I love the finish, the degraded stony texture and the dirt — fantastic! @admin Are you sure you have the right information regarding the box contents? It appears that the Rattle Trap vehicle is no longer included…

Personally I wouldn’t even bet on it hitting the minimum because practically every YouTube video comment either criticises the price or doesn’t talk about the Lair AT ALL and demands the finishing of already started lines. That’s really bad for what’s supposed to be the showstopper.
International buyers can’t and won’t prop this up just like they didn’t with Eternia. People forget how low the numbers were on that thing and it had way more cache and, incredibly, a better beginning!
Mattel done fucked up. Like, horrendously. The vast majority of folks are out the door already and they don’t even know what the shipping costs.
I really like it as a design just to be clear, but they are gouging in the fucking extreme just to recoup the previous folly. That’s combined with the most obvious feedback ever seen in a fandom of ‘finish the vintage line!’.

  3. What do you see happening with this crowdfund? Will it even reach the minimum goal?
Mattel have really painted themselves into a corner. Even if they included the tier items as standard I think 300 + shipping would kill it stone dead anyway.
I also think they have to let the clock run down rather than cancel a second time but then have to sweeten the pot in the extreme too.
I suppose they’ll wait until the last minute then desperately throw stuff in to convince us.

I definitely agree that they can’t allow themselves to cancel the project again; it would send an even worse signal to the community and, once and for all, shoot themselves in the foot. The ‘made to order’ option would have been much more suitable for a non-nostalgic playset like this one. Are you holding on to your $300 price tag? Fine! Include everything you’ve shown and the problem is solved.

  4. I think there’ll be a lot of fans who just can’t swing that price tag, no matter how many extra figs included.
I kinda like it even though it feels a bit crammed and too busy. Would prefer if the large snake mouth would *be* the gate instead just a decoration. It’s like this thing missed the last step of simplification / smoothing out the design.
I do agree it has a chance at getting funded this time, nevertheless. So much play value. But some fans will be sad to miss out…
Looking at some other crowdfunds (Haslab), our price is not that high (!). I guess we’re not used to it.
That Chimera is awesome, if it doesn’t get made this time, I hope we’ll get it as Exclusive!

Thing is, people already baulked at the 300 price tag for V1 (‘confirmed’ by the questionnaire, which Damon tried to spin on Saturday by saying they never announced the price and that it would have cost more than this version! An absolutely idiotic move because people didn’t want something that size or cost even then).
There will be double digit international sales for this thing at best, in the UK it’s £335 as a starting point,  convert that to dollars and you’ll understand why the entire rest of the world won’t be touching this with a barge pole. Plus practically every American comment online is ‘how fucking much?’.
Re. Haslabs. It’ll eventually just about fund but if you look at the recent Joe one it’s seriously struggling because the tiers are whack and it’s an enormous vehicle. The Snake Lair only has tiers that won’t ever be reached on a set that’s now the size of a retail predecessor after everybody already saw V1 with it’s vehicle.
I just don’t understand how they ever dreamed they could charge the same amount of money for SO much less after folks already rejected the suggested cost of V1.
What really bugs me is their willingness to completely forego the international market. That’s why Eternia of all things barely made a dent. They obviously have a gouging level they wanna hit and run and don’t care how they do it.
