If you’re not aware, a test screening is where a movie is previewed for a test audience before its release date to gauge an audience’s reaction. Film studios then use these reactions to consider potential changes to improve their film.

Well Daniel Richtman, a big movie scoop and news reporter in the industry, has just indicated the “Masters of the Universe” Movie Trailer had another recent test screening and he had the scoop on the audience’s overall reaction.
Here is what Daniel had to say today on X:
DANIEL RICHTMAN: "Masters of the Universe had another test screening. This time reactions were a bit more mixed, tho still mostly positive. It’s described as very colorful and funny and silly with comparisons to Thor Ragnarok, for better or worse."

Comparisons to “Thor Ragnarok” isn’t surprising and is in line with what we heard the tone Amazon MGM was shooting for before filming began… that and “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

The best thing to take away from this scoop is that reactions were “mostly positive“… because good word of mouth will help this new He-Man film go a long way.
We’ll see you next time.

I’m a tiny bit worried now with the mixed reactions. Hopefully it’s just idiots hating on the film because they race swapped a few characters lol.
Just ignore the haters. I do. Valkyrie had haters too because she was white in the comics but everyone knows Tessa Thompson was amazing as Valkyrie.
Thor Ragnarok?
Tone is one thing but those images are so damn similar. Instead of having a Hulk, Adam has a Roboto.
Different strokes for different folks. Daniel also reported on another test screening earlier in the week that was super positive. I think there’s been like 5 or 6 now with the majority being crowd pleasers or being described as “great" or “amazing". You’re not gonna pleaser everyone and I think in this case your mileage might vary on if the humor or jokes land.
2 months tho!!
Most of the world will love it but haters gonna hate.
TRUST IN TRAVIS!
Nah, definitely don’t need a Marvel movie for MOTU. In more recent times that just means supposedly ‘kooky’ characters with weak dialogue facing a boring villain. The problem with starting out as Ragnarok or even going down that path means nothing has emotional impact afterwards because the tone is too jokey. You can’t then pull that back and so it’s what you get in a sequel. And we all know how that went.
The humour in a MOTU movie should be sprinkled in lightly at appropriate moments, not be a dedicated feature. The characters themselves are already OTT, you don’t need goofiness.
Both Ragnarok and Love and Thunder had good emotional moments, and villains with interesting motivations. You should probably let go of your emotional baggage and rewatch them.
@smitty-81 I think @sketchyskeletor is entitled to his opinion without being insulted. Ragnarok or Guardians of the Galaxy were not my favorite movies either. I prefer movies where not every character is cracking jokes and being silly in serious situations because I find it unrealistic and it prevents immersion for me. But, those movies did great at the box office so, to each their own.
When did i insult him? Also every time my unit in Iraq got attacked with indirect fire, all we did was crack jokes.
My infantry buddies said all they did was joke after a fire fight.
So joking in high stress, dangerous situations is not unrealistic.
It appears that we may, to some extent, be influenced by the collective unconscious.
This is not surprising. Thor Ragnarok is an obvious comparison. People have been saying for years that Thor Ragnarok was already the next best thing to having a real He-Man film.
I honestly don’t want to go watch a Marvel movie that happens to have Skeletor in it.
I don’t get you people. Marvel is popular with the world and the good movies are really good and Thor Rag is one of those good movies. We will be very lucky to get a MOTU movie that ranks with the best of what Marvel has put out.
hm… I don’t care about test screenings so much. Some of the biggest cinma flop the two years very had good test screenings, some of the best movies had mixed reactions in test screening. So it is a 50/50 chance…
That’s fair but I trust test screenings more than the early reactions on premier night. Those are always given with people wearing rose colored glasses.
I’m more than good with this. Thor Ragnarok rocked.
Better to be compared to Ragnarok than Love and thunder. That movie was terrible. I also don’t don’t get all the hate. Eternia and Asgard are both similar being mythical and magical.
What’s wrong with Love and Thunder?
@smitty-81 Gorr wasn’t as impactful as he should have been. Bale was great but feel like he was wasted. The biggest killer for me was the comedic tone. They went overboard with the humor
I see what you’re saying about Gorr. I think having the whole thing told from Korg’s perspective is why it’s “funny" and I feel like some people miss that.
For the people disappointed, were you expecting Lord of the Rings?
I think some were, I don’t know why they would though.
Fans are never going to agree. At least the reaction was mostly positive.
It’s amazing how we are labeled “HATERS" just for wanting the characters to look like the characters. It’s just so horrible isn’t it? How do we sleep at night? Wanting Duncan to stay white is such a crime against humanity.
If we are “HATERS" for simply wanting the characters to stay true to the source material. What does that make everybody who loves the race & gender swapping? ASSHOLES? DIPSHITS? IDIOTS? I believe it’s only fair that they get a colorful label as well. What goes around comes around.
I overlooked the crappy Transformers movies where none of the characters were even slightly recognizable. I overlooked the race swapping in Revelation & Revolution. I feel I have been very generous with this stupid nonsense. But here is where I draw the line. If that makes me a “HATER" then so be it. I’m sick of giving everybody an inch & then watch them take a mile while I get nothing in return.
When am I going to get a new MOTU movie where all the characters look right? Never! This was the 1 chance & only half the characters look right. And I can’t say anything about it because all the dipshits automatically label me a “HATER". WHATEVER! And you call yourselves MOTU fans? Maybe we should label you “FAKE FANS"? Or “SHILLS"? Or how about the “PIXEL DANS" with your noses stuck so far up Mattel’s ass that anything goes?
Hasbro has the “HAS-BROS" and most of the fans hate them. What can we call the Mattel shills? They need a name too.
@sci-fitsunami Go ahead and say the W word because I’m pretty sure it’s been on your mind this whole time
So we’re all dipshits now? It’s not the fact that you want what you want it’s the fact that you are the type of person that yells at a grocery employee that their bananas aren’t yellow enough. Dude chill out
@brasco If you read his posts using a cartoon voice it becomes very comical. I also agree with your thoughts on Love and Thunder.
So tired of the full-on, repetitive neckbeard rage…
He did. He says “White" right up at the top, lol. But, anyhow, I agree calling people “haters" is immature and not useful. If they’re on a fan forum, I’m sure they do not hate everything. And I’m also annoyed with the antiwhite race-swapping. Teela was a beautiful pale redhead. Those are a people. A race. They come from north-west Europe. The Latina they have playing Teela is very attractive, but the bad hair dye job they gave her is stupid and just feels like if they race-swapped Clamp Champ for a Scandinavian whose hair they permed and dyed jet-black.
@sirsavage What’s your take on Zodak from 200x then? And don’t say “he’s a separate character from the original one", that idea wasn’t thought of until Classics
Fans.
Fandango have done their yearly anticipation survey and MOTU doesn’t crack the diverse top ten (seems that’s as far as the list went), which might be a real problem for what it cost. 7000 people were questioned and the movies listed are mostly estimate budgeted around 200 million (like MOTU) and above. So Masters will need stellar word of mouth because that’s quite a survey catchment and resulting list, but especially to get a sequel.
In easy terms it needs to full-on trounce Supergirl who’s near the bottom of the list if the suggestion she’s got a $100m budget is true (I doubt it). They spend way too much upfront on movies now.

Giant nothing burger especially when you look at their previous poll results. 😆 MOTU will be fine.

The point would be those movies went on to make either serious money or not enough to break even in real terms because of their budgets. But they still made the list at all to do both. And absolutely everything has changed financially even since then.
@sketchyskeletor The biggest reason why the 1987 movie sucked is because they DIDN’T spend enough money on it!
Amazon has Bezo money. $200 million is a drop in the bucket when you compare the likes of the $500 million they spent alone on 1 season for Rings of Power and another half a billion for the rights.
The make or break for the film, even as voiced by Amazon and Mattel, is how much of a cultural impact it makes and driving toy sales. So far, so good.
