COMIC and REVIEW: “Doom From Tomorrow” Minicomic

A new installment in this reoccurring series!

For years Michael ”Smitty.81” Smith has been largely responsible for digitizing minicomics for the "Masters of the Universe" community. Now, HE-MANIA.COM will be officially cataloging his work, accompanied with his personal reviews.

COMIC:

REVIEW:

“Doom From Tomorrow”

STORY:

We open on New Adventures Skeletor returning to Eternia in the moonbase Nordor. Skeletor and the Evil Mutants saw Starship Eternia leave and rather than attacking Primus, they fallowed them right into “Future Tense”, the mini comic that came packaged with Cartoon Collection wave six. New Adventures Skeletor waited for the battle to end before attacking and He-Man rallies the wind raiders once Skeletor launches his attack. New Adventures Sorceress stops He-Man to give him his Laser Power upgrade. He-Man and Slamurai take off in all of two wind raiders. New Adventures Skeletor and a mutant who is colored like Skeletor see the attack coming but they can’t stop He-Man. He-Man and New Adventures Skeletor have a brief fight, and He-Man throws shade at his New Adventures hairdo. Meanwhile on Snake Mountain, Snake Armor Skeletor doesn’t like the idea of his New Adventures counterpart winning so he uses the Medallion of Serpos to fire a laser at Nordor out of Snake Mountain. Nordor can’t take another hit so they kick He-Man out and retreat. Slamurai catches He-Man, who is annoyed that Snake Armor Skeletor saved the day. New Adventures Sorceress says that the Medallion of Serpos has been expended, and she claims that they will never see Nordor again.

ART:

The art is in that cartoony style again, but I think it works for the New Adventures characters. Snake Armor Skeletor is also drawn very well. The backgrounds are often busy but not distracting.

CONTINUITY:

Somehow this story takes place after “Future Tense” and “Leviathan’s War” suggesting that the first six Cartoon Collection mini comics never happened and that all the Snakemen stories take place during or after the Horde Invasion.

FINAL THOUGHT:

It’s not a bad story, but the continuity is confusing and it seems like a clunky way to bring in He-Man’s Laser Power.

  1. Didn’t care for this one. Found the story and continuity confusing. The art style doesn’t look good to me and the coloring is definitely off. For several panels I was thinking, “who is this guy?" before realizing it’s supposed to be Flogg but he was colored like NA Skeletor!
Probably worst of all is it offers no real explanation of the Laser Light powers. Just “You’ll need special weapons for this" but no details about where it comes from or how it works.

Its more than we got for Thunder Punch and about the same as we got for Battle Armor.
@brain77 yes, even though it think we just retcon’d an art or continuity error, it makes sense. Also I checked and it says “as seen in" when referring to the medallion. You can also see the cracks in the medallion.
