OUR THOUGHTS:
"The voice in the crowd can do more damage than even this storm." An exciting episode where the villians know the people the King serve can be a monarchy's undoing. The threat to the Royal Family feels real, and the Creeping Horak is the star of the show for the unrelenting peril it brings. (10/10)

  1. I love this episode – this episode contains my earliest memories of He-Man (and earliest memories period) with the Fire People and Skeletor fighting He-Man with the sword.

One thing I really like about this episode is the “A" team of He-Man, Battlecat, Stratos, and Ram-Man. That’s a team that is ready to throw down, and I wish we got a little more Heroic Warrior groups like this throughout the series. Teela, Man-at-Arms, and Orko split a lot of their time between competent warrior and liability/bait for He-Man.

The other thing about this episode (and a lot of the earlier ones) is how much the He-Man theme is peppered throughout it. To this day, I can’t hear it without getting pumped up.

  2. The Curse of the Spellstone is another great one and is a great episode to watch as an adult. The Horak is too frightening for little children and the quote AJ put in his review is something only adults can understand. “The voice in the crowd can do more damage than even this storm." No kid will undertand that. This episode is very smart and has a warning to leaders everywhere. Beware of the uprising.
I also find it interesting that the Elders are treated like Gods by the villagers. I didn’t remember that at all. I wonder if there are more episodes that refer to the Elders in that way. I’ll give it a 10.

    1. When I watch this episode it brings up memories of Star Trek ToS The Doomsday Machine.

Me too! There is a lot of Star Trek influence that feels peppered in these stories and just wait until we get to the episode “The Arena". 😀

  3. First time seeing this episode. Just thought it was alright. Don’t have much to say.
When I saw that the plot involved a weather machine I’m like “There has to be an Al Gore Global Warming joke to make in here somewhere but I can’t find it because I only know that guy for discovering a ManBearPig in Colorado."
“Horak" I now feel like Mattel execs that next year in ’84 when trying to think of the name for the new major franchise villain they were creating that would fight He-Man and Skeletor, they came up with a hundred names they thought were stupid and this episode was randomly playing on a TV in the background in the board room for some reason.
Random Mattel Exec: “Dee, please turn off the TV. We’re trying to think of new main villain names, but most of our ideas are stupid."
Exec named Dee: “Oh, I like this episode. The one with the weathering machine and the dark force called Horak."
Exec: (quoting a trash movie that wouldn’t release for 30 years)……………say that again?
Another random exec: “Wow look at these concept sketches…..they’re fantastic!"

  4. Also while I’ve consumed lots of MOTU media by now being in the fandom for a little more than 3/4 of a year and somehow it has only occurred to me NOW that shapeshifting disguises is one of Evil-Lyn’s MAIN ABILITIES.
I mean I’ve seen her do it a lot, but not enough and it only occurred to me now that it’s way more often than I thought.
