Masters of the Universe: Origins “Cartoon Collection” (Filmation) QUEEN MARLENA abandons She-Ra Version 2 Packaging Design

The packaging for the Masters of the Universe: Origins “Cartoon Collection” (Filmation) Queen Marlena action figure has been revealed today:

Origins “Cartoon Collection” Queen Marlena

What is interesting about the packaging for this Queen Marlena figure is it marks a return to the original packaging design before Mattel started adding “She-Ra: Princess of Power” figures to the “Cartoon Collection” (Filmation) line.

So does this signal the end of Filmation She-Ra figures in the “Cartoon Collection” (Filmation) line?

Or will more She-Ra: Princess of Power “Cartoon Collection” (Filmation) figures still be made under the old V1 or new V2 packaging, less the 40th Anniversary Logo?

Only time will tell.

Thanks to Yo_tengo_el_poder for the ‘heads up’.

We’ll see you next time.

    1. “Queen Marlena abandons She-Ra"
      Just like Mattel does! 🤣

Look no further than the Masterverse POP figures.
I wouldn’t be surprised if CC She-Ra is over. She-Ra doesn’t sell like He-Man, her 40th anniversary is over, and the She-Ra Swift Wind 2-Pack still hasn’t sold out.

    2. I like that she seems to have a mini-comic. Seems like is was only abandoned for certain crossover lines.

The regional price for me for that pack is almost 90 $. While it might not be wrong what you say; that this obscenly priced 2-pack is still available might not the best indicator. I personally planned to get 2 of the sets (one for the kids, one for me); as it is I have not brought myself to get even one. And I’m hardly unique enough to be alone with such a mindset.

    1. Please don’t let this mean there are no more She-Ra characters coming. This is the first time I started collecting so it would be very unfair.

There’s still the rumor of Adora, Glimmer and Scorpia. Maybe they’re going back to four characters in each wave and we’ll get one Filmation character and three 200X characters.

I don’t think this has to mean that we’re abandoning She-Ra. @admin may just like to have a juicy headline 😉
I actually had wondered about the card design, when King & Queen info was first leaked– if they are sort of exclusives, not attached to a wave, then we had, I believe, this precedent already: going back to a previous design if it fits better.
Only the retail waves seem to be restricted to all have the same design. Exclusives are different.
And Marlena, despite being Adora’s mom, is a He-Man character originally, living on Eternia. Hence the original CC card.
But I think it’s very possible that the “Hordak” themed card design may return for individual PoP releases in the future.

  1. I hope Mattel doesn’t stop making She-Ra figures but if I had my choice between that and finishing He-Man I pick finishing He-Man. There are so many left to make like the Sorceress and Fisto. We also need a Battle Cat and a Castle Grayskull.

  2. I’m honestly gonna bet going forward if they’re doing a character with accessory based off a Filmation He-Man episode, 2024 Grayskull cardback. 2025 Hordak Cardbak, character with accessory based off Filmation She-Ra episode.

I’m sure the only reason every CC figure had a Hordak Cardbak this year was because it was an anniversary thing, but now that it’s over and they’re bringing 200x into the CC mix, they’re gonna start using the cardbacks to distinguish the Filmation halves if y’all get what I’m saying.

In that context, a real juicy headline could have been “Are the She-Ra Cartoon Collection figures finished?" 😀

Honestly though, the chord I meant to strike with “Queen Marlena abandons She-Ra Version 2 Packaging Design" was just the overall surprise of it (especially with Marlena also being a She-Ra character) and what it could mean (if anything). Perhaps I could have chosen a better word though. 🙂

  4. I’m excited to get Marlena… and I certainly hope that Mattel is not finished with the PoP characters.
PoP is like the other side of the MOTU coin. It would be like releasing Raphael and Donatello, then stopping before Mikey and Leo get made.
It’s shameful how this company has treated She-Ra during her 40th Anniversary… 🙁
