Unachieved Crowdfund PRIEST PYTHONUS figure joins KECLAR in an Uncertain Future

Last night marked the end of Mattel’s crowdfunding campaign for the Snake Lair, the Masters of the Universe: Origins Playset that realizes the “home base for the Snake Men.

Priest Pythonus bonus figure

While there were ultimately enough backers to support the manufacturing of the actual Snake Lair, the bonus action figure Priest Pythonus was not so lucky, falling 1,424 backers short of unlocking the figure (even with Mattel extending the crowdfunding period.)

Fans who were really hoping to unlock the Origins Priest Pythonus figure (but watched it fall short) were sadly reminded of the 2022 successful crowdfunding campaign for the Origins Eternia Playset that ended just 709 backers shy from unlocking Keclar, the leader of the Elders.

The unrealized Origins Keclar figure

And here we are three years later and the Origins Keclar figure has yet to be offered to consumers on an individual level, a not-so-promising sign for this new Priest Pythonus figure who has now joined Keclar in that unachieved crowdfunding bonus tier abyss.

It was just mere weeks ago that Mattel admitted during the Snake Lair crowdfunding campaign that there is still no current plan for releasing Keclar three years later (nor Priest Pythonus for that matter.)

Per Mattel’s Damon Nee:

3 Years later and still no plans for Keclar

Considering it has been 3 years and there is still no plan to make Keclar commercially available to consumers, the future doesn’t seem very bright for an individual release of the Priest Pythonus figure anytime soon, either.

We’ll see you next time.

  1. In my opinion, there didn’t seem to be as much interest in Keclar. The big boom at the end, caused by the backers, was, I think, due to Mattel’s awkward manoeuvre of offering King Grayskull to everyone. As for Pythonus, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him return with his scarlet Kobra partner as a two-pack via Mattel Creations.

Yeah, Keclar became a sort of ‘I spent X and didn’t even get Keclar!’ after the fact. Though part of it was obviously getting so close.

  2. Just put them in a Power’s of Grayskull 2-pack with some awesome new art and sale them trough Mattel Creations. They get to recoup money on tooling and we finally get what should have been included from the get go.  I would rather pay for the 2 pack than have tooled product lost to time.

  3. Here is a great opportunity for a Powers of Grayskull line!
High Preist Snake Man vs Council of Elder leader
Eldor vs Unnamed One (not gorpo!!!!)
1987 Keldor vs Gray (Ro, whatever they’re calling him!)
Zanthor, Zeelhar, ZodaK, Sprit of the Ancients and the other 47 members of the Council(s) as depicted in MYP, MV Creations, Ultimate Battle Ground mini comic, UK comics, Kid Stuff’s “Castle Grayskull" and Golden books “I have the Power" Sure its mostly old dudes in beards. But so what? We are catching up. The line should reflect its base audience  🤣😂😅😁
